View Full Version : just bought a TH55 - wireless router

i just bought a th55 and charging right now, i am thinking of buyinga wireless router so i can surf around teh house. well, the box says 802.11b so am i suppose to buy arouter with 802.11b? iheard in the ux series forum that they have routers with 802.11g? what is the difference between g and b?????????

They're standards:

In theory, the TH55 should work w/ 802.11g WAPs. I haven't tested it but my TH55 works well w/ our 3CRWE52196 802.11b WAP at work.

Am using a crappy Belkin WiFi node running 802.11g with my TH55 and it works pretty well.

I'm using a Dell TrueMobile 2300.

It's a "g" router and works great with my TH55.

Just a reminder:

Look up and read the stuff about security!

It is sort of like with USB 1.0 and 2.0. Wireless g is backwords compatible with b. Although the TH55 only supports the b standard it will connect to g routers.

I also use a G router--the D-Link 624. It works quite well. I would definitely get a G rather than B router. PDAs and other devices will start utilizing G more and more. If you bought a B router, you'd have to upgrade later. And the G routers are perfectly backward-compatible. Sure they cost about $20-$30 more, but I don't think you'll be sorry.

I have a G router at work and a B router at home. No problems with either. A G router is backwards compatible in that you can use B network cards with it. I believe you can use a G network card with a B router. Not sure on that one.

My advice would be to buy the G router so if in the future you have a G network card, you can take advantage of the speed.
