I got a tip of advise if your final step for support or repair is Sony. Call thier tech support number and when you get connected to somebody, tell them you'd like to speak to an engineer. They know what your talking about and it really speeds things up.
I had a person who barely spoke English and didnt know that my NX was a clamshell, but eventually I confused him enough to connect me to an engineer. Just don't hang up when your on hold cause you go back the end of the quee line.

The best trick I can think of is simply to have *already* done the various things they will ask you to do, namely do a reset then a hard reset.

Digitizer woes, bad pixels, & IR beaming problems, to name a few, will all persist despite a hard reset & that's when you'll be kicked up to a higher level of support. That has been my experience, at least.
