I have only just started this excellent expansion for Redshift's brilliant RPG Legacy, so as yet have little to offer in the way of tips and hints!

I post this thread so people can start to ask questions, and also to alert more people to the fact that this expansion has been released.

http://www.redshift.hu/legacyrevenge.htm

Good luck playing it and I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I am!

Anyway: my first question - how do you get rid of the forcefield in the bottom of the house, in the area with three wall levers, and nearby a wall button (to do the Wizard's quest when you've finished rescuing the woman's daughters)?

I found it, just go to the button that did nothing near the second prisonner (forgot her name)

But it leads me to another question : should you follow the instructions and bring the orb to the wizard right away, or go through the demon's door to go and maybe find something interesting?

It only occured to me NOT to give him the Orb AFTER I'd given him the Orb.

Frankly, I got panik'd by the message -- How's that for "Absorbed in the gameplay" ?? and hustled my *** Right Back to the Wizard.

But if you think about it, "Evil-doers" in Legacy cannot cross Forcefields -- EVEN AFTER THEY ARE DOWN!" So there'd be no INCREASE in demons should you fail to get the door closed in time. Right?

OK, finished the quests in Revenge. It's pretty good, but I'm positive there are a bunch of things I'm missing out on, for instance:

There is a door in the northeast corner of the damsel's basement I can't open, and a keyhole in the wall in the central north of the map I can't find a key for - if you don't give the man the orb, does that make it so you can go in here?

There is a section of off-colored wall in the north of the ancient forest that looks like a secret panel, but no way to open it

There seems to be "stuff" out to the east in the ancient forest, but no way to get through the wall of trees to get there

No clue what the jail is for...

At one point, I met a dying woman who asked about her daughter and gave me an keepsake. Where does this go?

Does anyone have a clue about any of these? I can also answer any other questions anyone has...

Hehe!

Well, I had saved my game right before, so I tried both options. When you go through the door, you are met by a bunch of Fire lizards (I think), and a couple amazons.
But they can onlky attack you two at a time since it's a corridor. So I could kill most of them, but the last lizards are Lvl 99 with a whole bunch of Hp!
I do however believe that it might be possible to go further; indeed, if you manage to paralyze the lizards, you can kill them (it takes time, but it is possible I think.)
Anyway, I still have a saved game 'right before pushing the button', so I might give it some trials. ;)

heh, I got my own problem. Anybody can tell me specifically how do I solve the puzzle in the chess room about moving that chess set tot he red button?

istara

Amoki: I just touched one of the figures and it disappeared, revealing another statue with some treasure. But I can't work out where the quest item is in that level. I picked up a strange Demon Book but no one seems to want it.

Kitsune: Using a lot of paralysis, those fire lizards in hell are quite easy to take down. Fire lightning bolts as it seems to affect the ones standing behind. Let them advance on you so you can paralyse them one-by-one, otherwise if two are facing you and one is paralysed, it's hit-or-miss whether you will be able to paralyse the other (I think the game should have more AI here - it's not as though a Mage would be so stupid as to fire off spells at the already-paralysed one).

HOWEVER: there is a bug: when I step on the first grid that activates the wall fireball-shooters, the game freezes. My two front fighters get that red splash that pops up momentarily when you take a hit, but the splash doesn't disappear. And no game commands work. Except you CAN get to the main menu and exit the game as normally.

So, I saved at the freeze, then reloaded the freeze. The freeze happens quite a lot of the fireball buttons, so saving and reloading is the lengthy process. Dropping heavy stuff on the buttons also does not appear to keep them down.

Then: this isn't much of a spoiler really so I will reveal what is at the end: a hole in the wall, that is "Magically Sealed" so you can't enter. At this stage I have the orb but haven't given it to the wizard, so technically it should be closed.

There's no special treasure or anything (that I can find) :(

In the chess room, with the two yellow pads and the red one, there is a teleporter that will bring you in a corridor leading to a sort of command room (pullchains). The pullchains make some budda statue appear in the chess room. One of them is right in front of the red pad. When you have found that one, step on the pad.

I also have the Demon Book, and do not know what to do with it either!

That's what I intended to do :-)

Too bad! :-(

However, you must gain a hell of a lot of experience by killing such high level monsters?

The northeast door is the one closed by the wizard, as for the keyhole, I can't do anything with it either, neither before or after giving the orb!

Same for me!

Don't know either

I did not see her! Is it in the Thug's Notebook quest? because I haven't finished that one, and frankly I do not know where to go for it!

Here's another thing: in a lot of places are those little red marks on the walls on the automap, usually denoting that a person is standing there in the real map. But there is no one standing there for very many of these marks. There are a couple in the SE of Revenge City, and several in the Cave that leads to the Dwarf area.

Umm... nowhere in my chess room has yellow or red pads. Where are they in relation to the main room with all the statues surrounding the blue mana-orb?

These belong to persons who will appear once you've talked to somebody else somewhere else.

If I remember correctly, it's to the south. In anyway, it's a room to the right of that room with the statues surrounding the mana orb. Try touching those statues!

The Thug's notebook quest can't be accomplished before you finish the dwarf one.

It this regard, this pack is really well done, some quests are sequential, and what I really like is that once a NPC is not needed anymore, he disapears!

gyffes
05-26-2004, 10:09 AM
I've yet to finish the dwarven chamber -- I tossed a dwarf but didn't have time to play chess or visit the maze, so I backed off. I've not found the coin or the thugs (obviously, I guess, since it is sequential).

I'm impressed with this pack, although, as I noted elsewhere, I'm a bit concerned about how high-powered that flail is! This is what I warned of earlier: MontyHaul-type weaponry that throws off gamebalance. Already, the paralyze spell gives pretty big advantage to the party.

Wonder if it's possible to create other spells in an expansionpack?

Sylon/Redshift
05-26-2004, 10:18 AM
In expansion pack not, but for a new game version - or for Legacy 2.... :D Maybe. But what type of spells do you want to see, what is missing from the current set? Not too complicated ones, please! :)

gyffes
05-26-2004, 10:55 AM
Good question, Sylon. First, I'd make paralysis last LESS long (it's my favorite tool -- heck, my mage is named Senor Freeze -- but it's too powerful).

Second... I'll get back to you on that. At times during game-play, I think, "oooh, if only.." but at the moment I can't recall what I want. And I really want to be sure that what I suggest/offer doesn't unbalance gameplay. You've an incredible product and I'm leery of suggesting something that will lessen that.

First, thank you istara for starting this thread.
I apologize for not writing earlier.. I only just found out about this from Sylon and Stewe (Thank you very much for your support guys! You've been great!).

Hope you find it enjoyable and somewhat challenging!

gyffes, sorry, wasn't my intention to make superweapons. originally, it was supposed to be half what it was. It slipped in and it's my fault. I think I will have it removed if a revision is in order. Thank you for pointing it out.

The keyhole is part of a secret. you get it in another area unrelated to this quest.

In the jail house you should receive another quest, have you talked to the prisoners?

Istara, thank you again for this thread!
Looks like you are progressing nicely in the mission pack.

Thank you all.

chp - thank you for such a brilliant mission pack! Please don't let it be your last - I look forward to lots more from you! And I *love* that Mace thing - mega-kill ;)

Spells: the problem with spells is that by now, most people's spellcasters have probably learnt everything they can, making the sale of spellbooks in the shops somewhat redundant.

Maybe there could be a Turn Vampire spell added, so the spells more closely matched the games in pubs? And you could only cast Vampire bite spell if you were already a vampire. Also in the pub game (which is brilliant and well balanced - so probably not easy to change) it would be very cool to have a greater variety of spells. And perhaps more levels, or prizes, or exp.

Then again, if the mini-game became too absorbing, I might never get round to finishing the actual game... ;)

gyffes
05-26-2004, 01:52 PM
Istara, for a long time (way back when the spiders in the catacombs kept kickin' my b*tt!), I ONLY played the cardgame. FAR less frustrating!

I am not sure I've ever used Vampiric Touch on purpose, so I'mnot sure how much time/energy I want these guys to devote to working a transformation into the game. But I'm sure we can come up with SOME kewl new twists to suggest. I just know that 5 minutes into playing tonight, I'm gonna have a list of suggestions my arm long and then NOT have that available when I try typin' them in the next morning..

istara
05-26-2004, 02:32 PM
What's the Elvira pack?

I haven't actually ever used Vampiric Touch, come to think of it. But when I see it there, I always think it should be a vampire-only spell.

Given we're on the subject of the card-game, what are people's strategies here? I generally hit hit hit, always put poison as early as possible, then save any other poison cards for after the opponent has cured themself. I am always a little cautious about switching to vampire-mode, but it strikes me that it may be wiser to become a vampire as soon as possible.

Because vampires can cast every single type of spell, but humans can't cast Vampiric Touch. Humans are immune to Harm Undead, but vampires are immune to poison. Harm Undead seems to come in higher levels than Poison, but then again, poison has a continuous effect. And for the cherry on the cake, Vampiric Touch ADDS hp. So perhaps it is statistically weighted in favour of vampire-play for victory?

yeah, the pack never ceased my amusement of the creator of the map. It is done with a very nice touch, yet put in tons of humour (mecha-dwarfs anyone?). Oly that chess thing prevented me from moving on.

gyffes: guilty as charged...

amoki: are you in the actual chess room (should be a room with lots of switches corresponding to a chessboard.. if not, take a look at the "chess pieces"...

istara: the elvira pack was a little mission pack I made to help learn the editor and get a little feedback on what was good and what wasn't a good idea.. it's fairly short.

if you would like to play it, you can find it here (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49823)

warning... humor is warped.

gyffes

Humour is lovely. As are the little details (dog tags.. art criticisms -- expanded in REVENGE...). I'm quite a fan, chp.

And, Istara, I generally go VAMP as soon as I have enough vamp touches to make it worthwhile. If you wait too long to go vamp (say, close to 20/15 hp left), he nails you with a HARM UNDEAD or two and yer smoked.

I think the card game is slanted a bit much towards the vamp, what with their increased resistance to spells an' no poison. Perhaps some of the spells shouldn't work for you if you're a vampire?

! IMPORTANT !

I have fixed an error... if you started the Legacy:Revenge with the demo version, then purchased it and tried to continue it with the release one - in this case the originally blocked exits still don't let you enter.
But: if you started the game with the Release version, then it's ok at you.

It's the game's bad, not the Revenge world.
We apologize for this problem.

If you need the fixed release version, then please send me your purchase details, and I can let you download the fixed "Revenge".

Go to Grendlemoore via the teleporter.

Step back and forward (or forward and back!) so you're in the Grendlemoore teleporter, and you should find an option for Revenge there.

I also tried tearing into Revenge with the Editor to find out why I could not solve two quests:

1) Find what the word Xarst opens (Faris Alley).

2) Avenge the death of the villagers by killing Gorak in the Swamp of G'por (Faris Dead-Mans End) Find out more to this puzzle in Karthanc by giving Hursk the shield you got from Blaze.

3) And that key hole in the House Basement

After spending over an hour looking at all the code from the NPC's I find no mention of the two quests listed above and can only assume that I have an old copy.

I must really be missing something here, because the word 'xarst, faris alley, Gorak, G'por, Karthanc, Hursk, Blaze' do not ring any bell at all!

Also, when you look at the description of the pack on redshift's website, it says '+30 hours gameplay. 15 levels, 16 quests'. And I'm sure I haven't gone through 16 quests yet!

Please, help me understanding what to do, I'm nearing withdrawal(sp?)! :D

The card game is definitely slanted towards the Vampire:

--Increased resistance to spells
--Resistance to poison
--Ability to use Vampire Touch, which harms your enemy and heals yourself.

I don't think I've ever won a card game as a Human, only a Vampire. My strategy is to go Vampire as soon as I get a Turn Vampire card and never go back to Human. Ever. The resistance to spells (except Harm Undead) and poison is enough for me, even if I don't have any Vampire Touches handy. I also use the Mental Shield and Curse spells before I attack even if I'm tempted to use my 14 hp Lightning Bolt right away.

And, of course, I save the game once I win and reload the last saved game if I lose.

I haven't played the card game in a while, though, because with more HP in the game, it takes FOREVER, and I just don't have the patience anymore. Luckily, it seems the quests and monsters have more than made up for the loss of income from the game.

Speaking of spells, the Vampire Touch in the card game heals you while harming your opponent, but I don't think the actual spell heals you in the game, does it? If not, that would be a handy spell to have.

Still working on the Revenge pack. Apparently I need the fixed version since it won't let me into some of the caves after I registered. I also get the freeze when I step on a Fireball pad in the cellar after I rescued the two sisters. Awesome game, though. I love the humor. "Fountain of gem sparklies." LOL.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but there's no way into the prison in the town... it just keeps saying I want to run away.

Also, the "keepsake" ring from the woman in the jail - I took a look at the map in the editor b/c I couldn't figure out what to do with it. It seems like there is a tree that should disappear/be able to walk through in the northeast of the Ancient Forest to be able to give the keepsake to the woman's daughter, Maria, but this tree is still there... All I can say is make sure you look at EVERYTHING in the city of Revenge.

"Please let me know.. I will make any corrections immediately."

Yeah, CHP, I got the problem in your scripts with the Editor: in the northern part of the map "House Basement", there is a passage with many floor plates which activates many fireball traps. In some plates' scripts, there is too much "activater" script line, I mean, a floor plate can't activate more than one trap - in this way. Please write to Stewe, ask him for correcting these scripts.

Okay, with the fixed version of Revenge, I am still having problems with the House Basement.

Where the pad with the 50 zillion traps attached used to be, there is now a cave instead. But when I try to enter the cave, I get a fatal exception. I've done this with games I had saved before I had entered this section and after but I still get the fatal exception.

Did you go to the house basement to rescue the two daughters? The multi-fireball trap was in the area the wizard was going to seal off with the special orb. If you gave the orb to the wizard already, then you won't be able to get in there.

How to put this? Look at everything. Do it at least twice. Interact with it a bit...

Oh, screw it. Look in some windows, you'll get the idea.

I had the problem with the full version after running the shareware crippled version. I have now installed the patch from stewe.
I have been in the basement, behind the forcefield, and have not encountered the multi-fireball. There is one fireball-shooter on the wall, but it never fires. Perhaps the 'quickie fix' to the fireball freeze was a removal of the fireballs entirely. I also had no difficulty with the bad guys in that area. I can't imagine they were level 99 any more.
The hole in the wall is still there, but does not say 'magically sealed'. It just does not respond to any action.
Perhaps were are playing different games; before 'fix' and after...

Hmm
05-28-2004, 12:22 PM
Yes, the fix apparently removed the fireball traps and replaced them with the hole/cave. It wouldn't let me in the cave either, so I just saved the game to try again later. When I reloaded the saved game and tried to enter the cave, I got the fatal exception.

The firetrap and hallway in the basement were put in for diehard RPGers, kinda like an easteregg.. Essentially, if you worked your way through, there was a notice at the end stating they would be back in 7 days.. I decided, based on feedback, that it was causing much more problems than actually adding to the gameplay experience, so it was removed and sealed. Apologies to anyone encountering difficulties with it, and I hope the ones who made it through got a little chuckle.. even though there was no reward at the end.
The object of the house quests are to:
1.Find stephanie, release her.
2.Find her bratty sister and rescue her.
3.The subquest was to help the mage to seal the demon door.

Reguarding quest.. not all were added to your "quest book" I didn't think anyone would appreciate having 5-6 pages of quests, so I made most of them linear. (You solve one and another is added).

I hope this is not a spoiler but (note these are not in order):
a. Bartender - Gem Collection - side quest
b. Mayor - Thug's notebook - side quest
c. Land in jail (rescue prisoner's mother in thug hideout) - side quest
d. Rescue Mage's servant from kidnapping plot- part of main quest
e. Help distressed woman - side quest
f. Recover sword stolen from you - part of main quest
g. Save Daughters -side quest
...1. Stephanie
...2. Gabriel
...3. Obtain mystic orb to seal entry to netherworld - extra sub quest
h. Dark Mage- side quest
...1. Find special weapon to destroy lich
...2. Put to rest king's son's bones
...3. Return relic to Mage
i. Obtain coin from Dwarf ruins game room - part of main quest
j. Obtain Book from dwarf ruins library - part of main quest
k. Destroy Dagon - main quest
not all the above were added as quests to your book and some were merged later to consolidate them (ex. originally there were two quests for the ancient ruler: find the relic and find and put the king's sons bones to rest. I changed the story line slightly and merged the quests together. )
some more of the side quests not added to your quest book
were: finding the treasure Maria tells you about, finding the Revenge Bow (this was supposed to be a super secret, along the line of the redshift ax in Legacy) , and the easteregg (now sealed).
main quest designations are ones you need to accomplish to finish the game.
Hope this is not a spoiler but it helps those to wish to know if they finished everything..
Mostly I hope it was enjoyable!

The main problem was to stop adding.. I keep wanting to add more and more..

Your feedback here is GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you!

chp, I did finally get into Jail, thank you. I've finished REVENGE and now Legacy has no more toys for me.

One thing I noticed in Elvira: One of the amazons drops a necklace but when you try to pick it up, you grab a weed! I thought at first it was 'cause she dropped the necklace amid a bunch of weeds so I went back and lured her into a hallway before destroying her.. only to have her drop another weed!

In all, lovely. I greatly appreciate the work you put into both and feel it was $6 well spent.

In expansion pack not, but for a new game version - or for Legacy 2.... :D Maybe. But what type of spells do you want to see, what is missing from the current set? Not too complicated ones, please! :)

I haven't seen the editor, but I thought of a few things about spells and expansion packs.

1. It would be useful to have some separation between the spell and the effect. So, you could rename a spell and link it to a different effect. The underlying outcome would be the same, but it might suit different scenarios. But, it would be great to have an even more general thing (see 4).

2. I could envisage a sci-fi pack where there might not be any spells at all. Magic might be replaced with mechanical ability or perhaps "mana" could be related to some ability to "gland" drugs - if you're familiar with Iain M Banks's Culture novels. "Spells" (or similar) might be available through objects (some sort of special devices) only.

3. It would be good to have a way of recharging magical objects. Might be various ways: v. expensive spell (lots of mana); at magic shops (some only and v. expensive in money); and through special places (like orbs). Should be generally prohibitive, but might be useful, especially in situations like 2.

4. It might be good to have some more specific spells (a bit like "harm undead") that would only target certain character classes. Like "harm undead", they would be very powerful against the right character class (to make them worthwhile), but absolutely no use otherwise. Or you could create spells that affect only one character attribute (like "stupify" - to reduce intelligence - or "soften" to reduce AC). Perhaps you could create a way to name the spell, link the spell to an effect (predefined, as in 1) and then define the outcome through some scripting.

5. In order to make scenarios like 2 better, it would be good to be able to create a new skin. This would change every item of appearance (e.g. map, attributes screen, font).

Hope that's of interest.

gyffes
06-03-2004, 09:49 AM
Soften /stupify exist(s) after a fashion: curse/hour of the gods.

And while I've no interest in a Scifi version, recharging items is of interest. Perhaps as simple as: cast a spell upon the item. So if you want to add to your MASS HEAL wand, cast a mass heal on it. Etc.

gyffes
06-03-2004, 09:52 AM
Oh, yeah.. about the lost sword: I'm assuming you are referring to Dagon's Sword that was given you and that you lost when you foolishly allowed yourself to get mugged. If there's ANOTHER sword that we're looking for, I've forgotten about it so can't help you.

Dang this short-term memory loss, anyway!

gyffes
06-03-2004, 02:33 PM
Well -- [I] didn't get mugged. I recognized that for proper game-flow, I needed to temporarily give up ownership of the blade, which I did, after ensuring that the thugs asked nicely.

Anywhoo.. yeah, that sword reappears quite a bit later in the 'venture. Go do other things 'til it does.

BilboB
06-03-2004, 05:46 PM
One type of spell that would be interesting to see, well, more of a change, would be the way spell casting rods and staffs and scrolls work. Instead of being used at the level of the character, the staff should have its own "internal intelligence". Otherwise, there's no value in having my dumb adventurer ever use anything magic with an intelligence factor, like healing. This greatly limits the value and use of the items, since for my mages, I'd rather just have a full mana potion anyway. For a mass heal rod, give it a set range of hp to fix, no matter who uses it. Same with lightning, etc.

Another nice touch would be the ability to direct an attack at somebody (I think this was already mentioned somewhere else). If there are 2 guys in front of me, I should be able to pick where I want the paralyze (or the arrow) to go, not have it be chance.

Lastly, for vampiric touch - let it heal the whole party! Having it just heal the one mage that casts it isn't very useful... If it cured other characters, I might actually use this one once in a while.

gyffes
06-04-2004, 01:05 PM
Vampiric touch -- I think the idea is it drains into the toucher.. hard to have that effect hit the whole party and keep it part of the "touch" concept. If you want, have a fighter use it from a scroll/wand.

Directing an attack: I like not being able to choose.. it forces me to use more strategy -- I'll paralyze from longrange then move away and the2nd will follow me, paralyze him, work on him 'til the other comes along.. it's sorta like Ali -- I sting like a bee and float about 'til I need to sting again. Lack of choice also acts to weaken an otherwise WAY too powerful spell (paralyze). Try doing House of Cold Blood without paralyze! Whole new world of pain...

BilboB1

bobsq- To get the Revenge Bow, you need to unlock the keyhole by the strange mage (the one you gave the orb to close the "demon hole"). The hole takes the "Revenge Key". There is, however, no indication whatsoever you have successfully unlocked it. The bow is directly to the south, where a wall or something opens up (I don't remember the specifics on this, sorry...)

Alpawa: Do you have two non-sale-able (that is, the print is in orange) items that are green and two that are red? Are you in the area near the two doors with the forcefields (beyond the string of fireball launchers)?

If so, place one red item on one red altar and stand back. If nothing happens, pick that item up and drop the OTHER red item. You should see ("You hear a forcefield going away" or "You hear a door opening"). Then go to the OTHER red altar and do it again. Then repeat with the green items/altars.

If you still can't get this, I'll see if I can go there and figure out what goes where EXACTLY. This ain' hard, so my guess is you have the wrong red/green items or are trying to do this in the wrong place on the map. Post back here if it's still not happening for you.

Gyffes,

I have finished the revenge pack now but i couldnot find the demon book and there are still some people standing there. I guess in this pack they vanish once their job is done but i still have 5 of them. Is it normal or i am being stupid.

By the way is there any other maps to be played as i have finished all of them and i dont want to keep waiting.

Thanks.

gyffes
06-15-2004, 09:13 AM
Some people remain once their tasks are finished, others leave (or switch location); if you click on them, they will thank you for having done your job or will give you the next part of your task (whatever the case may be).

If you have not found the demon book, you're not done! Have you been in jail, yet?

As to other maps... have you tried ELVIRA? It's a small test-map by the REVENGE creator. Quick but fun(ny) and will take more than a few minutes for you to finish (once you've found the demonbook, of course).

If you have finished the official Legacy game as well as the Expansion pack game, you're doomed to lurk in this forum reliving past glories (while replaying the game -- see how far you can go with only 2 or 1 character) and awaiting the next pack. I'm hoping the silence we're hearing from Sylon et al indicate they're hard at work on the next pack.

There is a little bug/feature. If you drop it to ground before you get mugged, the game won't notice and after receiving it again you can pick up the old one still lying around and have two of them. You can't sell it but maybe it can help a bit in the end :-)

Also one more thing i have started the game again and like before i am stuck in the Fires Empire finding the secret switch in one of the 25 rooms. Those invisible ones are only revealed when you are done from what I found.

Hmmm...the mace or flail has to do with the bones quest.

I know nothing about this colored patch. I might have missed something, or done it by accident.

The "colored patch" is on the outside wall of Revenge City. Exit the City at the southeast corner (into the Ancient Forest), go east-then-north around the wall protrusion. Face west, and the brown section is in front of you. I have no idea what it does (if anything.)

Ferret, the Flail and the bones are related to the Dark Mage's quest.

Invisible contacts -- I assume you mean red marks that are on the smallmap but don't show onscreen. These are ... "artifacts" for want of a better term, little blips of code that reveal where a character will appear or was, depending upon where in a specific storyline you are. They have no bearing on your progress as they always remain, no matter where you are in a storyline. Does this make sense? Bottom line: you can't judge your progress by the presence of those red blips.

So you still have not killed Dagon the Dragon, is that what you mean? Then you should not be worrying about patches you've not resolved -- all will be revealed as you finish your quests.

Ferret1
06-17-2004, 11:08 AM
*s*...I know what the red blips mean...I was merely "logging" my progress (i.e. I knew I still had some contacts to reveal.) My biggest problem right now is where to go to find the Bones and Staff???

Sorry, sorry, I PROMISE we will release new maps during this summer - but not our own maps, I'm afraid... Yeah, we will make a totally new game, or a sequel for Legacy - we just collect the ideas now, you know, it's summer, it's vacation time. :) The hard work - not just conversations to other platforms - begins a bit later. But that's why we released the Editor: to satisfy the hunger of the hardcore fans like you. :)

Thanks, guys, but... everybody praises just my graphics part in Legacy. What about the super fantastic game design? The absolutely fascinating story? The most enchanting world building? Bahh... :)

Anyway, if you still stay by the fabulous-incredible graphics, and want to know some more about its roots, check my little own gallery at my favorite Hungarian fantasy-site (this site's design was made by me too, of course :) :
http://www.fantasya.hu/index.php?szuloID=39&modul=galeri
There you'll find some fantasy book covers as well as other old stuffs from me. If you are sharp-eyed, you can find 1-2 pages later some early pictures from Legacy (?) too... Back in 1996, I started an Eye of the Beholder-like game for the PC, but the project was cancelled because I was alone (we met with Stewe later), and I can't code. So when I met Stewe, and wanted to do some cool role playing game for the PDA-market, I recycled many stuffs from those good-old days. :)

Well, I woulda laid props on you for game design, but you said you "just did the art".

I Love the little details, like the fact that the program remembers who attacked first the previous round so you don't have to keep re-selecting your first attacker. Things like that -- and your (plural) incredible responsiveness to our early suggestions (hit point bar, renaming of characters option, "stacking" potions and scrolls) really make a game into a joy to play. There's a reason so many of us have ruined our screen protectors (you guys ARE using screen protectors, right? Esp you, Jeff, when your new one arrives?) on this!

Naa, Tixx, ditch the gingko.. lack of memory makes the game replayable virtually FOREVER! I'm taking my 4th (or is it 6th?) party through and while aspects are easier, I'm struggling in lots of new places. And the chance to try different strategies this way is nice.. for example, I'm currently chugging through with a battlemage, priest, mage and knight.. the knight gets all the + int magic items, I'm using no paralyze or lightning bolt and we're all carrying bows and hundreds of potions. So while the entire party is now practically immune to magic attacks, we can't stand and fight toe to toe or we're overwhelmed (House of Cold Blood, for example). You don't realize howmuch you come to rely on something 'til you make yerself not use it (para, lightning).

Lovely game, Sylon, Stewe.

To those who have developed the games and ensuing mission packs that have entertained us, stimulated our minds, worn holes in our PDA screens, and are primarily responsible for the abundant success of Folgers and No-Doz, I salute you. Keep up the great work lest I be forced to return to silly, trivial things like food, sleep and work.

An interesting thought (or at least what can appear to be interesting to one at odd hours of the night): Ever think of just how many keystrokes you've penned playing Legacy? My team of vagabonds has been through the primary game, the Expansion Pack, the smaller pack (leaving from the first town), and is most of the way through Revenge. I'm pretty sure they haven't spent more than maybe a dozen nights or so in the Inns. Let's call it 20 to be safe. They'd stay more often, but the darn bartender all of his clone-brothers don't honor my SkyMiles program. And you can't even order a pint of lager? No tips for him! That's what happens when there's no competition...

I've just started on Day 52. That's 52 days x 24 hours x 60 minutes = close to 75000 minutes / squares moved. Drop out the roughly 10000 moves (20 Inn-Stays x 8 hours x 60 minutes) and we're left with about 65000 tiles moved.

And that doesn't account for the buttons pressed, switches pulled, spells cast, windows peered through (just to make sure the glass was clean, of course), spider webs & eggs crushed, doors un-stuck, and people talked to. Oh yes, and I think I might have spent more than 1 turn having to defeat an enemy... Maybe once?

I've gone through a few screen protectors, drained countless battery cycles, panicked over games I'd thought were lost from memory, pondered game puzzles while working with clients, and -- yes, I know I need help -- actually had a dream where some aspects of Legacy were woven in.

So I guess my solution is obvious. I should be asking for my brain back. But on second thought, I think I'd be just as happy with another expansion pack...

So bring it on! My stylus hand is starting to uncramp and you KNOW how uncomfortable that can be!

Cheers, and keep up the great work!

Jeremy

WOW, why didn't I just shut up?? Sorry about that last post -- I didn't realize how long-winded I could be when postponing the continuously agonizingly impossible (though no doubt remarkably easy) task of trying to figure out where to find Dagon.

So I've retrieved Dagon's Sword. Where do I find that mangy mutt?? I'm clueless. I've got no remaining open quests listed, so think I've finished all the prerequisites.

I've searched strategically every single tile of all the game maps*

*Disclaimer: Tiles searched do not include tiles needed to be searched

Thanks,

You can enter into the Dark Hall from many different points - try to enter from every point and discover the full Dark Hall. Somewhere (where the columns are in circles...) one column disappeared, and you can enter a new area. (Of course if you pull again that lever, the column gets back into its place.)

Ok, so I have finished Legacy, the official expansion, Revenge, and all the other maps I can get my hands on (not on the editor beta list, so haven't touched any of them, but I'm willing to wait until they're properly released rather than play half completed & buggy levels), and have a question for ppl in similar positions:

How much do ppl pick armour to do with AC value, how much to do with stats improvements (eg: +8 dex), and how much to do with colour? ;) my knight currently is completely decked out in Adamantium & other red stuff (including his Hell Sabre & red**** shield). Actually, he has a normal full helm, but that's cause I haven't found a replacement full helm in red yet (it's also +5 strength). I even have some items which have better stats modifiers hanging around, but they're not red, so he doesn't wear them. Actually, it's the same with my cleric... I've even been known to spend a few days wandering around from shop to shop just finding neat stuff that fits in. Of course, a nice consequence for my knight is his 116 AC, but I'm more doing it for the colour scheme.

What do other ppl do?

A side comment: This game's pretty cool -- I've read through some of the forums, after completing each of the levels/expansion packs, to see if I've missed anything -- I actually forgot about the 1st forest in Revenge, and so had a hard time finding the crypt!!! :(

gyffes
07-05-2004, 12:23 PM
While color is nice (I too have gone the ENTIRELY RED approach), I find I'll hold an inferior armor for its bonus (+5 int, +6 end, whatever) long after better AC is available.

Basically, if my guys have high enough INT, they're immune/resistant to most magics. An AC of +100 is nice 'cause then nearly NOONE hits you (well.. heh.. 'least 'til you play REVENGE...), but an AC of 70 is nearly as good. So I'll keep a moderately high AC if it keeps my overall hit points (endurance) or magic resistance (INT) high. Then I can handle a few hard physical hits (esp the front two guys.. I'll spin when surrounded to use them as human shields for the less-well protected guys in back) while zapping with spells 'til I'm blue in the face, then one quick MASS HEAL gets us back in shape and we're fighting again.

Does that make sense?

BTW, I started a thread on tactics at PDArcade for just these sorts of discussions; I added your question to the thread.

O.K. I've pulled the lever and went to the Dark Hall where there's a circle of columns with a teleporter in the middle but no column has dissapeared. Have I missed something I had to do prior this lever? Thanks.

Sylon/Redshift

Alpawa: there is one lever in Satan's Hall and one in God's Hall with the "Keeper of the Dark Hall" comment. And there is two removable column in the Dark Hall's middle column circle. So, it's simple... It must work.

In the hallway, you should see a painting directly opposite a shelf. Click on the painting, it should give you a clue what to do with the object you found directly in front of the door.
Once through the door, you should be able to unlock the door in the east.

Hi gyffes, Thanks for your advise. I had the reply from Stewe yesterday it read the folowing:

"Hello!

We apologize for this problem...
Currently I have no idea, but I can ask it from the Author of Legacy:Revenge.

Btw it can be memory error... I mean the Communicator's execution memory (not the same as C:) is almost/almost not enough for Legacy. Because of this, you should have only 1 or limited number of additional worlds installed. Every of them needs a small but reasonable amount of execution memory.
If you remove the additional worlds, except the one you currently play with, the problem can be gone.

Regards,
Stewe"

Do you know what does that mean?

Thanks,
Eric1717

gyffes
07-26-2004, 09:24 AM
Sorta. When Legacy starts, I think it loads ALL AVAILABLE WORLDS into memory.

So, if you have the main game AND the expansion pack AND REVENGE AND Elvira AND King's Aide on your Communicator at the same time, ALL get loaded into memory. Since the Communicator has limited memory and/or limited ability to manage that much data at one time, Stewe's recommendation is that you delete the extra maps from your machine.

So, if you're playing REVENGE, delete the expansion pack and King's Aide and Elvira from the Communicator (but not Legacy itself!) and you should be alright.

Or, go out and buy yourself a steeply discounted Clie' (480x320 landscape is GREAT for Legacy) that will be your Legacy-specific gaming machine and you can load as many maps as you want!

I have found the Thugs book, rescued the two daughters, retrieved the jewel collection and killed the Demons in the basement. I have killed Dagon and gotten the King's bones back. I have a Keepsake that I don't know who to give it to. Is that the end of Revenge? Seems short compared to the Expansion! The apprentice said something about her land to the North and the guy with the Bones also said something about returning to his land. Is that a hint about another expansion?

Haven't gone BACK to jail since I finished. The few times that I have checked it says that I fight the urge to run away but that's it. Will try to go back and see what happens.

Ok, spent the whole 75 min train ride to work (ain't living in NY somethin?!?) going back over stuff in the game. According to your earlier post, you said in the Thugs Hideout, we'll I JUST checked it and theres NO person still in there because I had already rescued her. Am I missing an item or something, what gives? This is the only thing left I have to do. Once I finish this I will have done the 11 quests, which leads me to my next question...

Okay heres the deal I did everything else in Revenge except this, I managed to figure out how to get in the jail on my own etc. hehe. And I have the quest in my log book. I have searched the map many times and there is no one else to talk to that I haven't already. I cannot finish this quest and I would like to.

I did noticedtheres an area in the forest where you can see enemies but you can't get to them, they are blocked behind shrubs and trees...

I had the same problem and wandered around for a while. If I remember correctly, you have to go back into the city and talk to the people there.

Thats precisely the problem, I have talked to everybody 2-3x and I still can't finish that quest, all I want is an EXACT walkthrough of what needs to be and where I need to go.

Once you have, go talk with her AGAIN.

I have the quest for the jail, I thought that was clear. I have talked to everyone 2-3x (obviously by everyone I do mean maria in the jail) yet I cannot finish the quest. I still don't know what I need to do for that quest. If I need to go somewhere and rescue someone or talk to someone and then go back to maria then who and where is this person.

Don't get huffy with me, Dear Unregistered Angel. What you said was that you got INTO the jail. You did not mention that you'd done as she asked or that you'd returned to talk with her. Hence my question.

Had you done as she asked and returned to speak with her, she'd've mentioned your reward AND the way would've been opened to the area where you can SEE "bad guys" but could not, previously, get to.

Capice?

DataAngel

This is what I said: "I managed to figure out how to get in the jail on my own etc. hehe. And I have the quest in my log book" <-- this should be clear enough that I am talking about the quest in the jail.

And this: "you said in the Thugs Hideout, we'll I JUST checked it and theres NO person still in there because I had already rescued her." <-- this is IN the information from the developers post about Revenge.

And then further said: "I have talked to everybody 2-3x"

Now, First do not be telling me I am getting huffy...
Second, it should be plainly clear that I have been everywhere on the map several times looking for ANYTHING that will allow me to finish this quest, but I have yet to find anything else I can do. So telling me to go around talking to people doesn't do anything for me, I am plenty smart enough to do such. If no one knows exactly what to do then don't bother replying to my question...

DataAngel
08-10-2004, 08:57 PM
Oh, and considering I had stated this before you even replied: "Thats precisely the problem, I have talked to everybody 2-3x and I still can't finish that quest, all I want is an EXACT walkthrough of what needs to be and where I need to go."

You need to learn to make sure you know what you are replying to before replying. I wanted a walkthrough and nothing more, I didn't ask to be told to wander the entire map again.

HEY ALL,

Make sure that you go to the Redshift homepage (www.Redshift.hu for those that don't know) and nominate them for the award that they are in the running for!!! They have given us a great game and we should all show them our gratitude. You can place one vote per email address per day. I have already put in my 7 for today!

Hello, I am stuck trying to find Dagon's bane after being mugged. I have rescued the Mages girl, and finished ALL of the other quests. I have seached the area where I was mugged(through the hole, but still outside), and both levels of the Thugs hideout. I cannot open the gate on the last level of the hideout. Obviously I am missing something simple, can you please tell me WHERE to look or exactly what I am doing wrong? Thanks

You have to move certain levers to get the King piece to move. There should be a pergamon on the wall that says something about surrendering to the king on the circle of blood or something that says to surrender to him. You have to find the right levers to get him next to the red circle and then stand on it. He will accept your surrender and you can move on.

Alpawa, this i a game that requires a certian type of player. A key element to this game is "problem solving", without this element you might as well be playing pacman. There are certain events throughout Legacy/Expansions that are very difficult and assistance may be required. These posts are supposed to be used as a last resort, after every single option is exhausted and you have tried everything. I find it difficult to believe that you have exhausted every single possiblity on how to get past that grill, if you would like to have someone walk you through the game without having to use your imagination then let me know and i'll just send you my saved game.
The answer to your grill is only 16 steps away from the grill, that's the best hint that your going to get from me. This is not directed towards you alone, there are many others that ask for help before they have even spent some time trying different things. I believe that you will find the game more enjoyable and will feel like you actually acomplished something once you have finished it.

 Good luck with the rest of Revenge....

I have to agree with you there Bodi (even tho I DID sorta give up a little to easy on that switch problem in Legend! (hanging head in shame!)). You will get more satisfaction knowing that you figured it out urself than by just asking or getting a walkthru. There are definitely going to be places that you get stuck, it happens to all of us, and for that there is the forum, but, as frustrating as it might be, you have to check EVERY wall for hidden switches or other secrets that will get u thru the problems.

Thank you for clarifing the "type" of player that is required to play this game, guess that I use too much this forum for help, I get sometimes desperate to continue and want to get past the problems too quick. You have to understand that as your keen obseervation is a valid one, my position or the one of others is as valid as yours i.e. it is one's problem if one wants to play the game a certain way or another. Thanks for the help.

De nada, Alpawa. And despite bodi's chastisement, we've ALL been here posting for help, before. And I think I pulled chain/ran and looked/pulled 'nother chain for quite awhile before I got that grill(e)/gate/grate open.

Personally, I'd rather give vague hints that point the way 'cause I value "finding" the solution oneself rather than merely having it handed over. But some people post here when they're at wit's end and only want the answer so they can Get On With It.

And others (see my recent whine in PDArcade) just wanna post to complain... *grin*

Be well. Play well.

Chaos,
I'm honestly not sure of what your problem is.

You talk to Maria in jail.
Then you go to the Thug's Hideouts and free the chick there. I did it again last night. You have to talk to her until she disappears.
Then go back to Maria.

This is a really simple problem and we've told you what to do.
If that's not working, you might have caused a bug in your game somehow and may need totry to resolve THAT.

Forgive the rude tone in my previous post, I'm PMSing and frankly I get *****y when I do.
For the other aspect "that you'd asked but didn't get an answer" I can speak for myself and others when I say we were trying to NUDGE you in the right direction without giving an exact answer. I mean, there is some personal fun in the triumph of discovery.

But, you were obviously stumped and I gave you the answer. So please just take a chill. I don't take kindly to being treated like a jerk, and I can see you don't either. But we weren't trying to be jerks, and then you came out implying WE were dumb for not answering your question, which set me into motion.

DigitalChaos

Apology accepted...

I thought it was pretty clear by my posts that I didn't need a nudging but what I needed what exactly what I asked for the answer.

But now that I went back to the Thug's Hideout again, I managed to see the person and talk to her. I think my problem was that initially I may have not seen the spot on the map or only had tapped her 2x... Either way I am now finally done with the friggin game. phew.

Soon to start Legend. :-}

gyffes
09-05-2004, 08:07 PM
So you see, Chaos, we weren't being rude nor were we casually withholding data from you: you insisted on telling us you'd tapped everybody 2 or more times. Yet it was obvious that if you'd truly done so, you'd not be having trouble. So we kept poking you to go back and look again.

People come here and say, "I've been everywhere and touched everything but I can't find...!" and the only answer we can give is, "well, no you haven't." Because we can't SEE you game, we can't tell what you're NOT doing.

And then there's our attempts to be circumspect with the info we DO have.. 'cause a puzzle answered is a puzzle spoilt.

I am a new player and i am very green and i am old... Very old, i wanted to be adventurous and play this great game, Legacy.
My question is In The KINGS FOREST( Legacy, expansion Pack, right?). There isn't the Teleporter to get me to the Cult Temple. I don't see it, i know by looking at the map that posted( another website), it is suppose to be there, and as a matter of fact, I don't have the teleporter, in the middle of the room in The Cult Dungeon. Should i reload my Legacy Pack on to My T3?
Or is there something i am missing..
If i do need to reload, will i lose my saved games?

gyffes
09-08-2004, 12:01 PM
The forest you refer to is, I believe, part of the King's Aide map.

Something you will discover in new maps is that items are reflected on the map that may not appear for some time, if ever (certain circumstances are needed for a certain teleporter to appear, for example).

If you look at the map and see an "artifact" but when looking at the spot it ain' there: worry not. It will appear in due time. Progress through the world as if you can't see the red blip/teleporter/whatnot on the map and then be pleasantly surprised when it appears.

Good luck. Come back when you have more questions.

Let me just see if i understand you, right...
You are correct it is, the King's Aide.. I saw the walkthrough posted on Redshift's site.. There is clearly a teleporter in the forest,it says teleporter- you arrive to the Cult temple.. I can't finish this mission, until i can get there...
I don't see an artifact.. I just see the forest, there's nothing on the ground or anything. I have racked my brain... Remember, i am old, so i don't mean to trouble you.. Should i wait say a few days, or are there levers somewhere??
I thank you for your help.

gyffes
09-09-2004, 11:48 AM
Ok, I'll go slowly for the aged among us... I apologize if I go past what you've accomplished and give something away.

1) You're walking through the cult dungeon (you HAVE entered the dungeon, yes?)
2) You penetrate as far as you can, then go talk to Milagra again.
3) She gives you items, you go back into dungeon (via a new way or the original one, it's up to you) and penetrate further.
4) Shortly after this, the paths of the dungeon take you to a stairwell from which you climb BACK OUT OF THE DUNGEON and find yourself once more in the forest.
5) Take a few steps and you find another stairwell down.
AT THIS POINT, you will see on your map, but NOT on the "your eyes see this" screen, a teleporter. There IS NO TELEPORTER ("there is no spoon"). Later on, if/when you attempt to leave the dungeon and a certain task remains, the teleporter will appear to help you get back to finish the task. If you do all you need to WHILE STILL DOWN BELOW, the teleporter NEVER WILL APPEAR.

*phew* Got it?

rc1313
09-09-2004, 02:43 PM
Does this mean, if the teleporter doesn't ever show, that i can never get into the cult temple, to finish my mission?

gyffes
09-09-2004, 04:16 PM
Not in the slightest.

You do NOT get into the temple via teleporter. Once in the temple, at a certain point, you WILL move from room to room via teleporters (some of which will be in place, some of which you will "summon" via quasi-hidden switches).

But you get INTO the temple by exploring your surroundings in Town. Have you visited the town square? Check out the statuary.

I'm having the same problem as alpawa. I have been all through the Revenge levels several times and cannot find "the next step". Finding the bandits and getting back Dagon Bane is my next quest to complete. I too can see the area in the northwest of the Ancient Forest with spider webs and monsters lurking behind the line of trees and bushes but cannot get there. My suspicion is you get there through the locked door at the south side of the house in the middle of the forest, but I don't seem to have the key or can I for the life of me figure out where to obtain it.

This is my third venture from the beginning of Legacy -- first time trying the Revenge expansion. I've been going through with one character this time -- it's kind of fun. She's a level 32 Battlemage with INT:132. She can really kick some monster hind end, but unfortunately, even with her high intelligence, she is limited by MY intelligence -- and I can not figure out how to proceed. I've even made a check list of all the levels with each level's doors, ladders, holes, teleports, etc and where they lead. I've been through twice checking each level thoroughly walls, etc, and then checking each of the levels that it is linked to. To no avail. (Probably not thoroughly enough obviously -- I seem to have a scotoma to whatever it is I need to do). Could somebody give me a little itsy bitsy clue that will help with my blind spot?

Thanks

First: The area you can't get to will open, magically, when you've completed a task set you and returned to talk to the person who gave it to you.

A hint re: Bandits .... in Revenge (and Legend, among others), seemingly "dead" barrels aren't necessarily so..

Have you been through the house? Did you talk to the Bartender?
