I'm afraid I know the answer to this, but just in case:
Is there any way to force the Clié camera to use spot metering as the default? It doesn't look as if there is...
if u keep scrolling down there is a save feature. It doesn't say it saves certain features but it seems too anyway. Just select the setup u want like red eye reduction on or spot metering and then click save. Then check all the boxes and save. It won't make them the defaults ( no stars will be next to ur options) but it will save them and will be the same the next time u use the app.

Actually, I've already tried that, and at least in my case it doesn't seem to work...if I set the Spot Metering option to "On", go to Save Settings, check all the boxes, click "OK", then leave and re-enter the camera app, it's back to "Off*"...
then sorry. It works for me. Don't know why.

Just what it says. Instead of the exposure meter in the camera "weighing" it settings toward the center of the scene to be photoed or taking more than one and averaging the combined readings, "spot metering" is limited to the reading in a small part of the screen. The advantage is you can, say take a reading on a darker part of the image you want clearer, or take one on the brighter part of the image you don't want too bright and then you can "lock in" that setting and focus on your picture. It should give you a little more control over the total picture exposure. I haven't really tried this on my Z yet so I don't know how good it is. However, this would be a nice setting to make "default."

Spot metering works really well. I took some pictures of my wife at a restaurant at lunch today; she was sitting in front of some windows. With standard metering, her image was too dark too see (the parking lot outside looked great). With spot metering, she came out great (and the parking lot was very bright!)
