I got today a new MS (Sandisk Blue Label 512MB)
My Problem:
My CLIČ say I have only 468 MB to use :(
OK, I know the Problem byte to bit, and the Magic Gate ...
But I think 44MB less are to much?!?
How much space have you on your 512MB MS?
Perhaps the stick is not OK  With my old Stick (64MB) all was OK ...
Thanks for help!

That sounds about right - my 256 has at least 25Mb taken up

I'm shocked to realised that that's what happened with my MS too. Well, that 29MB that I'm missing means a lot

Wait until you fill it up :p
I have lots of small files on my 512MB stick, and because the 512MB stick uses 32kB clusters, I'm loosing out on crap loads of space!!!
I really wish they'd used FAT32/ext2/ANYTHING except for FAT for the MSPro's - I mean hell, if they're gonna make them incompatible with MS they may as well have.
As it stands now, when they want to break past the 2GB barrier they'll have to format the sticks differently again which will probably make *them* incompatible... MSPro2... blek...

If you look at the total number of bytes, you'll see it says
490,930,176 bytes, so my guess is that at least 21MB is used for the lame MagicGate security and file structure.... (and yes I know that there is 1024 bytes per kb and 1024 kb per MB)
You can never count on getting every bit of memory quoted on pretty much anything now.
Just cross out the 512 with a Sharpie marker and write 468 if it helps you feel better. <grin> That's about 2 full-length movies and a backup of RAM anyway.
Mine should be here anyday (I bought one too)

So is there any way to reformat a MS to get rid of the MagicGate and reclaim that space? I wanted to buy a stick without MagicGate specifically because of this problem, but didn't find any available.
