View Full Version : Crashing NX70? Strange

I have the NX70 and use a 128mb Stick. Yesterday for some reason when I went to add an address I got an error: "DataMgr.c,Line9524,index Out of range" and the reset button apeared but I couldn't click it. I had to use the rest button and the error came back in some kind of sick loop. I had to erase all the data and then things were fine. I sync and get all my info back. The unit worked great all night and this morning. BUT @ lunch it started again. This time I was lucky because I had done the MS Backup and did loose much data... just what I added at an AM meeting.
Any ideas what is causing this? Anyone else getting this?

Obviously, something got corrupted, the address database maybe? Does it do this with the memory stick removed?
I learned to keep multiple backups and not to relay on the desktop, as it's too easily corrupted.

I go this message all the time after I installed the patch.
Well, you don't have to erase everything next time.
Try this: Press the hardreset + Up key, that will go to safe mode.
Then set your phone book or any hotkey to cliefile, then delete the Savedpreference in the memory. Reset, it should be fine.
Do you still get the error now? I haven't had a problem on this end, unless it's in combination with something else.

has anyone managed to pinpoint the causes of such errors? I just got one again today!

There are many causes, user caused, poorly written software, crashes, or something that just got corrupted.

i got it many many times when i installed the driver for the belkin keyboard i also got it when i had zlauncher installed. So i had to do a hard reset and i installed each everthing but zlauncher and the driver(kept a copy on my ms in case i really needed to type) haven't had a hard reset since.

with the NX it is usualy one piece of software that has problems. but you have to figure out what it is. Like for me it was a older version of Jot would cause lockups after hotsync. Palm reader pro befroe the update used to cause crahses in other apps.

When things like that happen and a backup from the PC or the MS bring up the same error, the best thing to do is to restore only the datebook/contacts/todo databases and do a clean install of all the other applications.
If the problem doesn't show up anymore, you might want to try reinstalling your old databases one at a time until you can pinpoint the troublemaker.
Yeah, I know, it's a pain in the a.. :( but it's the only way to get rid of the problem.

Same problem here..until I deleted Power Run 1.2 from my clie.
Now, my NX70 runs just fine.

Some apps may get corrupted, McFile and YiShow are two examples for me. Yet, after they were reinstalled, there was no more problems. Any app that somehow gets corrupted will cause grief. Yes there are some that are prone or not quite compatible will cause errors. If the majority of the users have no problem with a given app, then it's time to look elsewhere or restore from a good backup. BTW, ZLauncher has worked flawlessly for me.

I also got major errors from fonts4nx (I think that is the name :D ) and it seems fine for everyone else....
Good luck!

hmm.. I'm using ZLauncher... but I did a clean install of all my applications and games from scratch when it happened yesterday...
So far so good, but somehow I'm starting to think it's Sony's OS 5 that's causing so much problems.. unstable OS??

That's a distinct possibility and I have felt the same way!

Everybody should listen to cwai02 he/she saved me from a hard reset. Believe it or not after installing every app one and making sure it was stable i still got the error.

yes, I realised that.. but it's a PAIN just to re-enter all your regcodes and reconfigure all your programs again.. I'd rather just restore it from my backup... I don't get the error if I hard reset it and restore the NX with my PC's backup..
