Does anyone have any real actual knowledge (and preferrably evidence) of the rhumored CliePhone, successor to the UX50?

This is particularly important to me as I am considering the purchase of a UX50 and S/E-608 for Sprint, but if there is actual truth to these rhumors, I will hold off until the new release.

Thanks

This is a little old (http://brighthand.com/article/My_Dinner_with_Sony), but Sony can't do that at the moment because of an agreement with Ericsson.

They'd have to rip out the WiFi to do it as well. I'd rather just have a seperate device. (phone)

First Gaelen, I can't help as I don't have any knowledge at all.

Second, I also prefer separate PDA and cell phone.

Thirdly, I think it would not be sensible to use the UX-50 as a cell phone because of the battery life. OK, I know you can get the ext. bat., but that would add a lot of weight AND size. Imagine putting that big block of brick next to your ear.

Therefore unless Sony can drastically improve the new battery, I think adding cell phone function to the Clie would not be a good idea.

I'm still going back and forth. I am a HUGE headset user therefore for me, the "style" of phone really matters not. I think I still am hoping for the time being that they will integrate phone functionality via software, utilizing the built-in antenna system, bluetooth headset and voice dial/voice recognition.

But, it does appear that for now, I will be purchasing them seperately.

If a UX phone came out, I wouldn't buy one. Until the cell providers allow free extra SIM cards for use in other devices there's just no reason for me to get anything but the smallest possible phone with BT that I can get.

Anyway, those rumors about a UX phone are pretty old. I think SE is focusing its smart phone efforts on the Symbian powered P910, and if they came out with a Palm phone it would just canabalize sales.

Not necessarily, if it will be a PDA with GPRS communication and not a smartphone (like T|W). P900 is primarily a phone and not a PDA.

Actually, quoting the same article...

The Sony representatives made it clear that there are no restrictions on what kind of wireless devices it can make. However, Mr. Yoshida said his company isn't going to make the sort of smart phone SE would.

In other words, there is nothing in the Sony/Ericcson agreement that forbids Sony from making a smart phone, though many of us suspected there was for a long time. :)

Of course, this is totally different than the feasibility of doing so. ;)

Overall, I'd agree with you that having a separate phone is better. I think that using BT to pair a GPRS phone with a UX is a totally acceptable situation, and actually provides additional flexibility when it comes to upgrading one or the other, as well as only carrying what you want when you need it. :)

Here's the article that was posted long ago which kind of mentions the phone possibility.
