Does LCD screen consume power without BackLight

Hi All
I read Sonly documentation to put Clie ( TJ-35) to HOLD mode to save battery power while playing mp3.
But that deactivates the button as well.
So i keep the LCD on but switch off the LCD Backlight for mp3.
Does anyone have any idea if LCD without backlight consume significant power ?

Any Comments ?

It will consume less power, but still some. But majority of the LCD consumption should be from the backlight.

it seems to be hard to read without the backlight on. i hav the backlight on most of the time. and i have to recharge every 4-5 days.
