After a lengthy discussion with Steve Smith (GoldenTiger) and the folks at PalmGear, Steve has agreed to include the following text in his documentation and in the PalmGear listing of the "ZeoPad Deluxe" skin:

"This skin design was inspired by the WSilkTaPad/WS-TaPad-02 skin designed by Jim Barr found at the WonderSilkSkins Web Site."

In return, I have granted permission to PalmGear to re-list the skin for sale. I find this to be a reasonable solution because my intention all along was never to receive any compensation or profit from this issue, but only to be credited with being the original skin designer. Steve and I have both agreed to this, and the skin as once again listed for sale at PalmGear.

This issue has prompted heated discussion on many fronts, and I feel that in the end, while it has been frustrating and discouraging, it has been very enlighteneing and educational. I thank you all for your input and support, and I thank Steve for being agreeable to giving me due credit.

Again, thanks for listening!

You're a better person that I am. If he had any class, he would have credited you in the first place and wouldn't have tried to profit from your generosity. I still hope that no one purchases his skin, and if they were inclined to do so, I hope they'll make a donation to you and use your skin instead.

Excuse me, but you don't have permission to do so because you didn't develop this program. Remember, you are a translator only. The author has explicitly denying all the illegally distributing thingy, so you better read its license agreement again, jbarr.

PS~Who do you think you are? The developer, ha!

So folks: don't by this skin at PalmGear!!!!!!!

Jim, you are doing a great job with WonderSilk and not to forget: JimsTips.com!
Thank you.

PS~Who do you think you are? The developer, ha! Hmmm. Not quite sure, but I assume you are refering to my statement that I "granted permission to PalmGear to re-list the program for sale". To that, yes, you are correct. I do not have the authorization to grant permission to list skins for sale on PalmGear or anywhere else--that's technically between the WonderSilk developer, the person who sells the skin, and the entity that is listing the program. But, that wasn't the issue. The issue from my perspective was that a skin was being listed on PalmGear whose original design was mine, but I was not being credited. The ZeoPad author was claiming that ZeoPad was his original design. That's all. Now that he is crediting me with the inspiration for his skin, he can do with it what he wants. The issue of listing or not on PalmGear really is between him, the WonderSilk authors, and PalmGear. Again, my reason for even involving PalmGear had to do with design credit, not the legality of the salability of the skin.

Rule of thumb: never reply to unregistered people :).

I would like to thank Jim for being tolerant during this whole ordeal and reasonable. I'm glad we have reached a resolution that both of us are pleased with :).

I am glad you gentlemen have work out your deferences. But I think you have missed what happened here.

When the existance of WonderSilk became known WE became excited. WE had fun figuring out the Japanese version. When the english version became available WE really started having fun, WE worked together, WE exchanged ideas, WE helped each other. WE had escaped for awhile into our NX70 - Clie Souce world. No questioning motives, no judging or being judged, no bickering, innocence was OK.

Then, bang, WE found out the real world is everywhere, there is no escape, no relief.

FWIT GoldenTiger you are an intelligent fellow and quickly saw an opportunity to make a quick buck and acted on it.

I would have much prefered that you had told it like it was and settled you differences with jbarr rather then the obvious sea lawyer justifications you post here.

there's another problem with your skin GoldenTiger. You are NOT allowed to use the CLIE logo for commercial purpose... You may be sued by Sony...

I agree with RLDunn on this. jbarr,  you're a better person than I .... I too hope nobody profits from your generosity & creative talent,  EXCEPT YOU.

This whole thing leaves a bad taste....a VERY bad taste....very shameful behavior on GT's part after all is said and done.  IMO.

Whole thing reminds me of the PocketPC world...it's sad...

Go to Handango or Pocketgear.com any day of the week, and you can't separate the legitimate application releases from the 'today themes' people are trying to sell for 3-5$ each...

Absolutely no sense of community left in that platform...I'm hoping we don't have the same thing start up here...

So your sense of "community" is that people will work for free? Hey, it's not North Korea here! You say "legitimate" applications, opposing it to themes, which means that from your point of view, a designer is less than a programmer.

I am not saying that all the themes and skins that are sold around here are designer's work,
but it's WORK. Try once and come back to talk about it. It's a free world, if someone thinks that his work is worth 3-5$ and you not, you don't buy it and he'll understand he have to work harder, or to give up if he can't. But don't deny people the right to try by arguing about a so-called "community" where the givers and the takers almost never swap places..
