Has anybody successfully flashed the NX rom?
I've the NX POSE including a stripped version of the CLIE NX OS5.0 ROM (ENG&JAP).
Meself have a Japanese NX60 and wish to backup my own ROM, before upgrading. Only there are still things to overcome.

First, I downloaded a ROM TRANSFER EXTENTION 3.3 for the older version to backup the ROM, but without succes ( Maybe it was my fault. I've no experience with this program on CLIE before)

Second, How do I get the ROM file from disk to the CLIE itself?

For Palm devices and OS4.x it was easier to do, but for these new machines. I can find very little support.

So please share your experience!!! :)

Brayder was suppose to have something out any day now for the NX. I don't know what the holdup is. I have no exp flashing Clies nor do I intend too, unless it's an update. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Just downloading it from Sony's homepage I guess, as usual. But It's no POSE, it's a Simulator. Yes, it makes quite a bit of a difference since the Simulator can't run all native code. (But most of it)

I wouldn't try what you are doing to the NX until there's someone experienced enough to release the information. It's too risky to mess with the rom.

I flashed the n610c rom to my dead n610c using a serial cable in debug mode before with Brayder's help. I am not sure if this is going to work for the NX.

I've many experience with Palm 3.x/4.x flash, editrom and emulator.
Brayder is handy, but not standard.
The ROM image in the sim/emulator is file.
The English version is slimmed down to 2,752kb (file size)
The Japanese on is slimmed down to 5,504kb

which means you still have more than 13 MB free in the flash ROM!
I think this is intresting enough for many NX users. Since 13MB is surely enough for the "most wanted" programs. This will surely compensate the short cooming of the 11MB free RAM.

Since the high priced MS and not everybody want it of need it.
Like me I am looking forward to the CF driver.

This is meaning full.
Flashing was on my Palm IIIc very very easy and smoothly, but since there is barely documents about this topic to found for this version of OS. I must be careful.

I don't think so. There's been no such reports, anyway...

What you've got is not POSE but the Palm OS Simulator (not Emulator). They're (technically speaking) different things.

One such difference is that while POSE needs an actual ROM image to run (either a ROM image put by Sony on its developer site, or the actual ROM downloaded from a real device), the OS5 simulator will NOT (yet) run with anything but the two bundled ROM images! In short: it will not work with your ROM image even if you could get it with ROM Transfer Extension...

First, I downloaded a ROM TRANSFER EXTENTION 3.3 for the older version to backup the ROM, but without succes ( Maybe it was my fault. I've no experience with this program on CLIE before)
You have to select the "mem card" option, then launch the transfer and wait for the resulting file to appear (/Palm/PalmOS.rom on the MemoryStick). Then, use MsImport to transfer the ROM image on your PC.
It works on the NX70V (well, sort of: you don't get the Small ROM), so it should do as well on the NX60...

Second, How do I get the ROM file from disk to the CLIE itself?
This is the tricky part. For now, you can't, but in the fuure, this involves using the POSE emulator. Unfortunately there's no such thing as a PalmOS 5.x emulator, there's just the simulator...

I wanted to add a "save as JackSprat backup" function in my ROM editor, but Brayder didn't want to support ROM piracy (let's call it by its real name, reflashing a ROM with a different language is unfortunately illegal), so it never was implemented... Too bad for people who only wanted to legitimately add/remove files from their ROM :(

For Palm devices and OS4.x it was easier to do, but for these new machines. I can find very little support.
Your best bet would be at the very least to wait for the OS5-compatible JackSprat/JackFlash release! Then start searching the net again, who knows what you'll find?!

The Simulator ROM files are recompiled for the WinTel platform and will not function on an ARM-based machine.
