Hi all,
I wrote to Redshift about when their adaption of Civlization was going to be out and they had this to say:
We've serious problems with the game... Infogrames is hesitating to give the rights to us. Could you help us in a petition ? If yes, then I can contact you a few days later. Infogrames just working on to find a legal way about Mobile Civilization. Although I'm not sure they're really working on this...
Thank you, in advance!
Regards,
Stewe
I guess this explains why they took off the pictures from the website. Should we petition? Being only my second posting, I am not sure how to go about doing that.

If there is a petition, i sight it right now :)

Or just start a Petition Here on the forum, then send it to Redshift.
Let's go!
I, Vallée Anne-Guillaume, want that Infogrames gives the right to Redshift so they can release Civilization for Palm/Synbian/PPC.
You could contact me at vdodo@hotmail.com for further informations

Please let RedShift port Civilization into the PalmOS platform. I really like the idea of playing Civilization wherever and whenever I want. :)

I'm confused...where are you supposed to sign? The link to the Redshift website has a link that takes you back to this thread, but Massman82 said the petition is at Redshift's website. There's another link to some other forum, but I don't see where you register for it.

Infogrames are just being bloody bastards...let someone from Redshift drop us a email for them so we can all let them know just *what* we think of them pulling this stunt.....
I want Civilisation on my Clie.
This kind of game is really important to increase credibility of the Pda's Nation (remember beginning of the PC...).

I know it isn't the original... but why not try making a port of the Freeciv game that was created open source for *nix platform computers?
Mind you, I signed the petition and I would love to see the original!
Good Luck!

They would have to make that free. They can't afford to spend that much money on the development cost and receive nothing in return. (Which is what would happen right now since they are about 70% complete and have stopped development for about a month now because of Infogrames)

Freeciv4palmos already exist........ as a project, the port was started, but the lead developer (and the only one) doesn't want to continue this project.
I'm triing to re-start the project, but it's really hard because I don't have any doc on palm programming, so I have to learn it by reading the part of freeciv that was allready port.

Put me on the petition. I'd pay a resaonable prive for my favorite computer game. Infogames or Redshift would easily be able to get $29.00 for the Palm version of the game . There are already close clones of the game, which were not as expensive, but lack the great AI and graphics we'd expect from Sid Meier's (sp?) game.

FreeCiv as an alternative is almost laughable. It is unlikely anything will emerge from this port since very little has happened for a long time.
Started port around March 2001.
Something popped out in May 2001. And this was the last update (from the webpage). All it does is create a map.
The forums have pretty much stated the author has given up on this project and anyone else can take over it.
I suggest you start petitioning! :)

INFOGRAMMES HAVE MADE SOME GREAT GAMES IN THE PAST, WHY STOP ONE OF THERE OLDEST GOING ONTO A VERY SMALL MARKET?
THE ANSWER IS "PANTS!"
GIMMIE GIMMIE GIMMIE!!
I dont know about $29
I think a TOP notch Palm OS game could fetch $19.99. But when people start selling games for over that, its a bit much! Even EverQuest for Pocket PC sells for $19.99 and its one of the most sold games out there for PPC. Im sure people will buy it for $29 but I think they would make MUCH more money in quantity by selling it for under $20

I don't think you will find any info. They are probably under a NDA or can't disclose any information for now.
I'll let you know if I find something out though.

An Unregistered person is asking on a Palm OS based device for a port to PPC! Perhaps if you did write to a forum that did care would get more sympathy or response.

Well, well. I have the Civ's from the beginning (Civ 1) to its current incarnation (Civ 3) and have never even looked at all those pesky spinoffs like CTP.
Civ on my Palm would be VERY addicting. Please let them port it.

bad news:this is an email redshift sent me
No:( Latest state: 4% for us, probably 60-70 for Atari and probably 26-36
for Handmark. The last 2 amount is just in my mind, don't know. That's very
bad :( It means we have much more income from Dragonfire (after 6 months)
than we would have from Civ... the physical thing is we have to live, so
must generate income. Civ developing would need another months... half year.
Bad news... we received this state a few days earlier. The previous state
was 15-20% for Redshift, which was very good.

Hey hey! Haven't seen you around for a bit!
Of course I was used to seeing you elsewhere!
Are you working on the new RPG game?
I heard from Stewe at Redshift asking if I wanted to help test the new one, but I haven't heard anything else since the Yahoo site went down.
Best wishes!

(Wanking my own work but..)
You can play the original Civlization on my free CaSTaway/Palm emulator; the Atari ST had Civ1, and its pretty darned good. (You need a halfway decent OS5 machine to run it, however)

I have been playing Civilzation on my NX60 now for a week and it is fantastic. I am using the Atari ST simulator that has been mentioned in a fairly recent thread. It works!! The game is a little small and not as elegant perhaps as having it ported to the Palm OS, but after a few minutes with it, you get used to it and lose yourself in the game. When I get a moment, I will try and post a step by step process and put it up on Jeff's Codejedi board.

Did you try the fullscreen scaling? That should make it look pretty darned good on the screen :)

Jeff,
It looks great on full scale, although it is a bit slower. I have gotten used to the normal scale and being able to use the virtual buttons below the screen. Once you start playing, you get used to it and don't think anything of it being small. Thanks again for all your efforts. By the way, I love 0.7.7.
Cheers,

Why do people not ever read the entire thread?!?!
This is one of those threads that never, ever, ever, ever dies because someone doesn't check their facts.
Redshift had shelved this project 6 months ago (if you bothered to check their website or read through two pages of this thread) because of licensing ... or lack of!
FAQ for dummies
Q. So what should I do now?
A. You can do many things to help lower Yorricks blood pressure. This can be done by:
1) Stop submitting your vote on ClieSource. You should send it to someone who cares ... or would bother to read your vote!
2) Stop saying "gee whiz, that would be a great idea to port it over". This would have been ported over to PDA and to other platforms by now if licensing was given. It hasn't! Live with it!
3) Go download other versions of it like CastAway or other crippled/half developed versions. Don't complain that it isn't fully featured on PDA. If you want a fully featured version, buy the PC version!
Now to take my medication and have a lie down... :)

I read three pages of this thread and decided it was enough of my time and after digging around in the atari ST junk for 6 hours, I posted here. Why don't you close the topic and lower your blood pressure yourself.
