What's new in 2.60?
==================
* editing sketch details returns to list view correctly
* added PNG plugin
* added "Send" functionality for SnapperMail, BlueTooth, ...
* allow corrupted sketches to be deleted (instead of crashing DB)
* supports Tungsten T five-way navigator
* partial support for Sony jog-dial

I'm surprised that HiRes is not there.

HiRes would be nice, but most people use this app as a StickyNotes app, rather than as a paint program.

It's still entirely free, and the plugins copy notes to a variety of programs (including all built-in apps and all built-in replacement apps).

BTW, a freeware Viewer program, "Windlebug" is available at:

I love DiddleBug (it's probably one of my 3 most-used apps) but I agree with the others: hi-res and color are must have features for the next release.

What does everyone use Diddlebug for? I haven't quite found any real use for it.

I use it all the time. But, the only thing I use it for is to take a quick note (jot down a phone number, IP address, etc.) Then, if it's important, I put it in a memo, address book entry, etc.

I've used it a few times for taking notes in a meeting, but it takes so many pages that it got a little old.

For a quick reminder, with alarms, it's great!

I use it the same way as those 3M yellow sticky notes - quick reminders with an alarm that don't really need all the overhead of a "to do" item.

eg:  "Call my wife at 2:00" or "Talk to Bob before you leave" or to jot down a phone number quickly and then add it to my contacts later, etc.

i used to use diddlebug and *especially* diddlesnap all the time with my palm IIIx and then my clie 300. since i got a hi-res device, diddlesnap crashes my clie every time. is it because the program itself is not hi-res?

if i'm mistaken and anyone knows how to address this problem with diddlesnap and making it work on the clie 615, i'd appreciate knowing how.

Diddlesnap doesn't work because of the high-res, though DiddleBug has been updated to work fine on a high-res machine; the text is high-res, the drawings are not.

The developer has stated for awhile that color will be coming in v3.0 and high-res may also be coming at that time. However, it involves changing the entire database format, so it's a major piece of work, and given that it's a freeware project with one programmer, I wouldn't count on seeing it for quite awhile.

I'm have v2.15 installed and using only 42K. I notice that v2.6 uses over 100K. Are there any compelling reasons for a T415 user to upgrade to the latest version?

I can't remember all the updates, but two I do remember are support for high-res text and the ability to set note-specific alarms. If you don't need those, then I would stick with the version you have.

I frequenty travel to Taiwan and China for business. If I want to go somewhere, I get my friends to write the directions in chinese for me on my T615. If I want to go there, I just show it to the taxi driver and I'm on my way. Storing it on the CLIE is much better than always carrying around different pieces of scratch paper, or a notebook of chinese characters too.

This is in addition to the chinese buisiness cards of the area restaurants and hot spots to help me get around. When I need to go somewhere, I just show the business card to the taxi driver. When it's time to go back to the hotel, I just show the hotel business card.

Having Diddlebug gives me more flexability for those times when I don't have a business card for a place because I havn't been there yet.

That's wierd because you should be having problems running Diddlebug 2.15 on a Palm OS 4.x device! They recommend Diddlebug 2.5 or above for any device running Palm OS 3.5 or greater. Check out the Diddlebug Website (http://sourceforge.net/projects/diddlebug/) for all versions 2.5 and above.

I use Penpencol because of it being color and hires. A little nicer look but no alarms and such.

Actually, I did end up installing DB v2.60 because the alarms wouldn't display properly with v2.15. Now the alarms function well. However, I still have not really found myself using it with any regularity.

DiddleBug has superior alarm UI.
draw a right slide on the AlarmField at the bottom; select for example 7:00a and it will automatically be an alarm for the next morning (if it is today after 7:00a).

HiRes should be in the next release, color not.

My opinion on color: make it 4 or 8 bit. choose the palette yourself (black white red & blue)
Advantage: note will be small; speed will be fast, UI will be simple.
Disadvantage: it will still be a note taking app and not a paint app

Since installing Diddlebug and Windlebug, I've been unable to copy the archive the pictures to my computer. Have other people run into this problem too?

I have Diddlebug 2.6 and have tried installing Windlebug, but when I try to execute WindleBug.exe, I just get
" No user with DiddleBug database found. Program will be terminated"

check if your diddleBug DB is backed up in your backup folder on your desktop.

if you cant find it, look for the DB with a file manager, and set it to back up.

if it is there, reinstall windlebug.

(BTW, I've never used windlebug, but this might work. And there's a new plugin for DiddleBug, which exports your drawings to a bmp file on your memorystick. This might help, too: no need of a windows app any more!)

If you have a WindleBug problem, contact the program author.

I use it for quick notes that I want to remember but not necesarilly keep the note once reminded. It's much quicker to write a note there than to put it in notepad with graffitti.

How I use Diddlebug: I assigned it to my ToDo button, and within the program I assigned the ToDo button to do the action "New drawing". Now, I can take out my Clie, hit ToDo twice, and scribble a note without even looking down at the unit.

Later, it gets transcribed (using the wonderfully-named IntelliBoogers with Pick-n-Flick technology) into ToDo or Datebook.

One question, however; what the heck does "partial support for Sony jog-dial" mean? Scrolling it up or down goes through my drawings, just like it always has. Clicking does nothing, just like it always has. Anyone?
