Howdy!

I got a 256 MS Pro from Sandisk, which worked fine in my TH55 for a while. Suddenly it does not recognize the MS anylonger to the point it says there's no MS in the unit.

If I place it in my camera it works.

If I place my Sony 512 MS Pro in the TH55 it recognizes it instantly and works fine with it.

Any hints? Is it possible a MS goes bad that is only recognized by a camera but not by the TH55?

Thanks!

I remember seeing an article about flash cards and cameras a few months ago. They need to be reformatted every once in a while.

Back up your data on your computer; delete the hidden index file on the root of the MS; and reinsert the card into the Clie to have it try to recreate that file.

If that doesn't work: reformat the MS; plug the card into the Clie so it will add the Palm folders; and copy your data back.

Worked for me. Sometimes the palm doen't re-index your card properly when you write data onto it with another device.

Hope this helps.

I tried that already. The camera sees it OK but the TH55 and the PC do not. I have a Zio! USB reader that works fine with the 512 and all others 128, 32, etc. However, it simply does not see the 256.

I have no first hand experience with it, but I've heard all kinds of horror stories about Sandisk products (mostly SD cards). This confirms it for me, I'm just going to stick with Sony MS. Never had a single problem with any of the Sony MS I've used, and I've only ever formated them when I first got them (I've used them in two PDAs and my digital camera).

I haven't had a single problem with my SanDisk 512MB MSPro also. When you say you "tried that already"... did that include formatting the 256 MSPro in the camera, and then try it again in your TH55/e ?

And out of curiosity, is it a white MSPro or a new blue one?

I ask because I just ordered another SanDisk 512mb MSPro with their Amazon.com rebate offer (after $20 rebate ends up being $104.14) and it's a blue one.

I reformatted the MS in my camera, as it is the only device that recognizes it. Then I took a couple pictures and it apparently worked fine because I could review them in the camera's LCD display.

It is a bluish color. My Sony 512 Mb MS Pro is white and works fine with all my gadgets.

If Sandisk makes the MS for Sony then the quality control is slipping on their products.

Oh, and another idea you could try (if you haven't already, and who knows if it will help):

Under Setup, put your camera's USB connect in Normal (removable disk) mode (not PTP)....then format the MSPro from your desktop instead of the camera's format option.

enderenya,

I have one of the blue Sandisk 512MB sticks, I have used it in both of my TH55's, swapping it back and forth with my 1GB stick depending on which TH55 I take with me on a particular day, and I have had no problems with the blue 512MB Sandisk at all. Works perfectly in both TH55's.

Best wishes,
Bawko

I've been using Sandisk 256 Pro Duo without any problems for the past 2 months. Rossi, I would contact Sandisk for a replacement.

All,
Thanks for your feedback.

I wrote to Sandisk and will ship it back for replacement. It seems I got a bad one. S### happens.

I have a couple 128Mb Sandisks and they have been working fine for three years or so in all my Sony stuff, N760C, DCR PC100 camcorder, DC717 camera and now the TH55.

I did notice that if you go to the compatibility section of www.sandisk.com, select Sony handheld computers, the list doesn't include the TH-55. Maybe this is just because it's active (but glorious!) shelf life was so short between Sony releasing the TH55 and then announcing discontinuation of Clies outside Japan that Sandisk never got round to updating the table. Here is the link by the way: http://www.sandisk.com/retail/compatibility.asp

I just took a risk anyway and ordered a 256MB-Pro Sandisk. The price was really cheap and I ordered from a site I trust with a good returns policy, plus the item shows as on back order which should mean that I get the latest version. I'll post my experiences when it arrives, but the site showed 7 day lead time so it'll be a few weeks before I have much constructive to post. Everyone keep your fingers crossed for me!

Has anybody noticed that the SanDisk cards are a little bit thicker than the Sony ones? I noticed that my 128MB one dosen't slide in as easily as my Sony 128 stick

Try to format it with Card Info in TH55.

I had corrupted files when I over filled one of my 128MB MS. Removing some files didn't work, reformating it with PC didn't work either. Only after reformating it with CardInfo, everything is back to normal.

BTW, I have 3 of 128MB SanDisk, 1GB MS Pro blue SanDisk, 2 of 256MB MS Select Lexar, a 128MB Sony MSs. All of them work just fine. Some of them actually 2-3 years old.

I accidentally washed one of them (forgot to remove it from my pants pocket before dumping the jeans in washing machine), dried the MS in the sun for a day, sticked it back to the Clie, and the MP3 still sounds great until now. :D.

I got the replacement 256 Pro Sandisk and it has been working fine in my PC, TH55 and Camera. Therefore, I believe it was a batch issue.

Regarding the size, I also noticed that the previous model did not slide so well as the the new one they shipped me. However, I got a new 256 Sony Duo Pro, which adapter fits even tighter than the older Sandisk. Maybe it's a TH55 adapter tolerance, though.

Well, I got my Sandisk 256MB Memory Stick Pro. It is a sort of slightly translucent blue/purple (I'm in the UK so this might not equate at all to what is shipped elsewhere). I noticed no problem with it being overly thick, it fits perfectly in my TH55. I took it out of the packing, plugged it into the TH55, and it was immediately recognised as a formatted card. So far it has worked flawlessly.

Please Help!

I just got a Sandisk 256 pro for my wife's TH-55 and it doesn't see it. I can get it to work with cameras and PC's and a UX-50 but not the TH-55. I reformated it on all three devices fine but nothing on the Clie. When I used the PC to copy over the index file and some other program files that were on her 32 mb card ,the Clie finally saw the card as a memstick pro 256 but none of the files could be seen and I kept on getting a "Format Failed" error when using the TH-55 to re-format it and yet the UX-50 saw all the files just fine.

I'm starting to think it id a problem with the TH-55 since it worked just fine in everything else.

Any ideas of what I can do?

Try switching the write-protect tab a few times. It can't hurt.

I got a SanDisk 1GB since TH55 first came out and I bought it and I had no problem at all.

Well I went back to Fry's and exchanged the old stick after trying everything else. The new one worked flawlessly. Like Rossi01 said, it's probably a batch issue.

Thanks Everyone for your help :D
