Hi, again I'm really sorry to bother everyone, but hoping some expirinced users can help me.

I've decided between getting the Vaja case or the Sony one for the T665c.

I would get the Vaja, except I am not sure if it protects as well as the Sony.

Anyone here who has a Vaja, how is the protection? If you drop it will it survive better in the Vaja then by itself?

Thank you everyone for your time.

By "Sony" case, do you mean the aftermarket one that wraps around. Costs about $40?

If so, then I have used both and definitely prefer the Sony over the Vaja. As far as protection is concerned, the Sony case doens't cover the sides at all, so you are not nearly as protected as the Vaja there. However, I like the Sony case because it's covers the screen much more tightly and protects it better. In the first week I had my Vaja case, my screen was scratched pretty badly even though the cover was snapped closed. I have had no concerns at all about the screen with the Sony case.

Also, to me, added bulk was a big issue and the overall size with the Sony case is much smaller that with the Vaja.

As far as cases are concerned, I think it is really a matter of personal preference. If you are most worried about protecting from drops, then the Vaja case it probably best. If you are more concerned with the protecting the screen while still keeping your clie slim, then the Sony is probably better. Hope this helps with you decision.

Vaja is VERY protective - solid leather back, leather around the corners, leather ridges around the corners, padded top. I have dropped mine about 4 feet (in store) in Vaja, no trouble.

I also have a Sena and a Bellagio, and Vaja is more protective for drops where case will hit corners (on both the others, corners are exposed), or on the back (in the Sena case, which is thin leather on the back. Snap version, which I have, also protects the connection port on the bottom.

Vaja is a great case. There is a reason it's more expensive. You definitely get what you pay for.

And, Vaja sends the case in a leather drawstring pouch which just happens to fit the Belkin 700 keyboard <g>.

Thanks for both your answers.

Yes, I mean the Sony one, avaliable on the sony.com/clie website.

Just wondering, how much thicker is the handheld in the Vaja compared to the handheld in the Sony case?

Thanks again

I've never had the Sony case but use the Vaja with my 665 and love it - great protection, looks great, and hardly any bulk. I have it in my front pocket all the time and hardly notice its there. It is definitely a high class case and worth the extra money.

I haven't measured, but I'd say the Vaja added between 1/8-1/4" more than the Sony case. This is mainly because of the belt-clip stud on the back of the case. Also, the cover had relatively thick padding and stuck out a bit from the front of the case when snapped. If you get the non-belt clip version, it's probably just a little thicker than the Sony case.

The Sony case adds a little more than the thickness of two of the flip-covers that originally come with the PDA.

Also, if you want to try out the Sony case, you can get it from Best Buy and return it if you don't like it. That's what I did, but ended up liking it enough to keep it.

I have the Sony case and I love it!!!

I have to disagree with the comment that the Vaja case is better for drops.. the SOny case seems much better to me. The back and front sides are padded, giving some type of cushion effect to the unit...

And in the Sony case, if you buy it, do a little experiment at home.. place your unit in the case and close the case... now roll it on the corners of the unit on a desk.. you will notice that no matter what, none of the corners will strike the ground in case of a drop... this is opposed to the corner of your unit striking the ground in a Vaja only covered by perhaps 2~3 mm of leather w/o padding... something to think about...

and I agree with the screen protection.. the Sony flap is solid, almost like it has a piece of metal encased into padded leather... it is excellent... the downside is that the sides are exposed, but again, do another experiment in the Sony case... try dropping the unit on it's side onto your bed.... You will notice that if you drop it at least 2 feet above the bed and point either of the sides down, it will land only on it's face because the unit is weighted on it's screen side... therefore, the only thing that the Vaja case protects that the Sony does not is the sides from scratches... and like I said before, the Sony is better in case of drops because it dissipates energy into it's padding as opposed to transferring impact enery like simple leather would...

if you were going to slam a hammer on your hand, would you rather protect your hand with a simple leather glove (like a golf glove) or a padded leather glove (like skiing/winter gloves)???
