View Full Version : Sucessfully play High plus quality movie in TH55

I copy the file of "Avx MQTParser.prc" from UX50 to TH55 by FileZ. Then, I successfully play High plus quality movie in TH55. But i observe that there are some skipping in playing the movie. Thus, I try to amend the framerate value of High plus quality to 24 fps in register file. Then, The TH55 can play very smooth movie.

Hi emno

This file is mainly to control what video quality to be allowed to play in sony movie player. In T55, it is restricted to play any movie with High plus quality setting, Thus , i copy the file of UX50 to TH55. Now, my TH55 is allowed to play the movie with high plus quality setting (Max. video quality setting is 768 kbps and 29.975 fps).

To emno:

Avx MQTParser is a checker for supported file format and doing some processes of playback. UX version's file is only working in UX and TH (as both of them are using Sony Handheld Engine).

TJ can't use MoviePlayer, but if you use Kinoma Player 2.2.2 (w/ kinomaMP4Lib.prc, kinomaHALSonySndGW.prc which are from TJ37's Kinoma Player), then you can play MQV (up to high quality)in your TJ35. But the playback is not as good as other CLIEs' (NX, NZ, TG) MoviePlayer.

No. That file is only working on UX and TH (both are using Sony Handheld Engine). For other CLIEs, it will make you a fatal exception when trying to play a video.

I downloaded this file - but how can I get it onto my Clie?

Hotsync and copy from MS fails due to the fact that the original file is in ROM and thus overwrite-protected.

Please help!

Did you read Swat03's post actually? You should find out the answer there.

When install files which are ripped from ROM, you MUST use copy from MS method. Beside Filez, McFile should also work.

Hi! I tried to copy this file with Filez to my TH55 (from MS), but I couldn't play any High Plus quality movies... Could you explain it please step by step how should I do it??? I have already a similar file in the ROM... Should I replace it? Am I stupid? :)

Not stupid if you have tried Filez... :)

You already did all steps required. But you can try to use McFile also, sometimes Filez can't go things well (I don't know why). ROM's files can't be replaced. If the RAM file's version is later than ROM one, then it will use file in RAM instead of ROM (like system update). Try to have a look on version info in both ROM and RAM.

If still can't work, then you need to as Swat03 for the file, maybe as I'm in Japan, so the file maybe for JP CLIE only.

Hi everybody

It is seems to many people have interesting it. I have some advice in the encoding of the high plus quality setting movie.

Karim, you are right, it has a serious skipping when we employ the original setting of high plus quality in image converter(768 kbps and 30 fps) . Thus, firstly, you must change the framerate setting of image converter to 24 fps. However, the original image converter do not allow us to change the framerate. Thus, we need to ammend the registry of image converter by ourselves.
The following link is about how to ammend the registry of image converter

http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18793&perpage=15&highlight=ICPrefs&pagenumber=6

Moreover, The following link is about Jackho who is so kindly to write a program to change the setting of image converter

http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49813&highlight=ICPrefs

Furthermore, The change of the framerate to 24 fps can greatly reduce the occurance of skipping. But in some movie, there are still little skipping to be occurance. Thus, i try to lower the video data rate setting . I observe that if we lower the video data rate setting to 630 kbps. Until now, i do not get any skipping to be occurance but we can still get a better video quality

Moreover, if you want to further reduce the size of the file, you can lower the vide data setting to 64k .

Hi deniClie

Do you can solve your problems ? in my case. I firstly move the file to ms, then i use filez to move the file to ram. Then, i will soft reset the palm. You will see two of these file by filez, one is in rom, one is in ram.

I hope it can help everybody and enjoy it.

I'm not sure the uploaded file is ok or not. So I re-uploaded it again. Try to d/l it and re-copy it to RAM.

Hi everybody!
Thanks a lot for your help!!!
It works now! What was the problem? =) It was the framerate! It works with 24 but not with 30 fps!

2 jackho: The downloaded file (in RAM) was older (August 2003) then file in ROM (December 2003). But it was not the problem. I tried all cases =)

Furthermore, it was necessary to soft reset the device after copying from ms (like swat03 wrote). And I used Filez...

TNX A LOT!!!

If you are getting jerky videos you may first want to disable programs that run in the background (code driver, flex button, Hi-launcher etc) as they are a contributing factor that causes things like jerky videos to happen.

May Jacko or some other kind cliers give me a reply to those questions?
1) what's the use on NX70V of Avx MQTParser? I mean, it's useful? For what?
2) i have read many threads about video conversion, most of all from DVD to MQV (clie NX format) but i'm confused about conversion from movies in DIVx format to MQV: may you tell me a resume of the process (clear steps and software)?
3) may i ger PW and USER for ftp server 24.147.15.2 (video sharing)?
Of course everything is for personal trial purpose only
Thanks so much for public and/or private answers!!

1. This UX's Avx MQTParser is for TH only (as both are using Sony Handheld Engine). It supports "Super High Quality" MQV (786kpbs video and 30fps).

2. If you have done some searches about AVI conversion, you should know that IC can handle DiVX, Xvid, QT's MOV. But no compression in audio track (like AC3, MP3), you need to use Microsoft ADPCM or uncompressed wave before using IC to convert.

3. I haven't use that FTP, so I can't help you.

Hi All,

Well, I'd love to own this enhanced playback file as well if anyone was so inclined, and will chime in with my email address below (I can throw it up on the web site as well if it'll help)... however, I'm curious to know if the TH55 processor is really up to the task of high def playback? It seems odd that Sony would cripple the TH55 without a good reason.. ?

I don't feel that the TH55 is up to the task! It just does not have the horsepower to show quality movies at acceptable frame rates.

Hi guys, I just got my stuff working, so I'm fresh from the thrill of encoding and watching a Simpsons episode on my TH55.

I'm much happier now that I know how to make this stuff working! :D

I know there is a size difference, but I can also see a definite quality difference too.
I directly encoded an MPEG-1 on my PVR-350, and also ran it through Image Converter.
The Image Converter file looks and runs better.

I'm sure this has been observed already, but I wanted to post my .02.

Great thread for a great idea!

If Filez can't work, try to use McFile or CLIEFiles to copy... If both of them can't work, you can try to copy the file to backup folder in MS and restore it.

I use PocketDVD Studio and it works nicely. You'll need to purchase and install the program "MMplayer" to play the movie on your Clie. However the Clie TH55 does not seem to have the horsepower to play videos as smoothly as I would like.

jackho
06-27-2004, 07:09 AM
Actually I'm using DVDx or SmartRipper. It is not related to this thread... If you read other threads, you can find some methods suggested by others.

I suggest you don't convert to MPEG-1 before using IC, because you can play standard MPEG-1 in CLIE directly (except TJ series which using Kinoma Player instead of MoviePlayer) and MPEG-1 quality is not very good and quite large in size.

MMPlayer is a good video program for palm, but comparing video quality, MQV in CLIEs is the best and no cost... Not even TH, other CLIEs hasn't enough CPU power (fastest CPU is only up to 200MHz) to decode DivX or Xvid directly...

jazzi
06-28-2004, 05:19 AM
jackho,

Are you saying you convert the movies using IC after using DVDx?

jackho

Actually I'm using existing MPEG-4 clips to convert in IC.

But I also tried to use DVDx to rip DVD to MPEG-4....

That's depends on your PC. In my old PC, it takes about near 1 hr for 20mins video.

And I think you better to make some searches in this forum. If having any other problems, post a new thread... It is really off-topic here.

I have a question about copying over this file to the TH55, as well as playing higher-quality files on other CLIE's-

Does the Movie Player app simply check the 'flag' for the movie quality, rather than the actual frame rate and bit rate?

EDIT- No, the movie player app for non-UX50 CLIE's needs files no better than High Quality. I tried some 24 FPS conversions, even some 18 FPS and they don't work (editing the 'High Quality' settings in the Registry.)

Too bad, I'm sure the TG/NX CLIE's could probably player better than 15 FPS also.

jackho
08-03-2004, 02:25 AM
MQTParser file will check of video properities (bitrate, fps, resolutions and MQV-specific info) and shouild be do something for pre-processing (as older CLIEs using UX or even TH's MQTParser file will cause fatal exception, it should be CPU specific when doing pre-processing, IMHO).

TG/NX/NZ maybe can play better quality video, but not sure as video accelerator's function hasn't released. Maybe if some expets can hack this file (TG/NX/NZ version) to bypass some checkings, then we can have a try on that...
