View Full Version : Problem with V600 and Blue Tooth

Just got my v600 yesterday. Have been struggling with trying to establish a bluetooth connection between the V600 and the UX50.
Have managed to successfully discover and "bond" both devices together. The v600 appears as a trusted device on the UX50 and the UX50 appears as a valid bluetooth device in the v600 "Device History".
The problems start when I try to create a new connection in the preferences menu on the UX50. As per instructions in the various threads the input into the UX50 "Connect to: Local Network" via "Bluetooth". When I select "Device: Tap to Find" the UX50 searches for Bluetooth devices but keeps coming back with the message "No Bluetooth devices were found."
I have tried activating the v600 in "discovery" mode via the "find me" menu while this process is taking place but to no avail!
Can anyone help or point me in the right direction? Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks
Darren

I have my V600 one week ago. Have no problem sending file from clie to my V600. However, I can't use the V600 to send SMS from clie ... also not to surf net using my V600 GPRS via UX50.
You can try to send a picture from ux50 via BT and it will ask to search device. Set V600 to "find me" and then click search ... you should find the V600 and file start to transfer ...
good luck

Greeting, Guest
You asked a question, but you seem to already paired the two devices. So you do not have a problem pairing. Your real problem is the question how to connect you UX to your new V600 as a network connection to browse the internet. The reason the message you claim appears is because it is already paired with your V600 and you are attempting to find a new connection and it can not find one.
If you are trying to make your UX connect to your V600 to the internet using bluetooth, you are in for a big spin if that's the real question that you are trying ask. Then you need to be real discriptive in your request for help. See http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51536 for what you need to provide in you next post.
Vision
Hi,
did you obtain and install Mobile Manager?
If not, go to:
http://ciscdb.sel.sony.com/cgi-bin/select-software.pl
choose your device UX-50 and download menu
should show up. Download and install Mobile manager
on your desktop.
I think your device V600 is not supported for automatic install,
but go with generic GSM phone. THis will also install
a tool on your Clie that you will use to connect. It might work
immediately. If it does not, call your customer support,
than be as technical as you can so you can avoid "first line"
and go to real "technical customer support". You have to
request that your phone is enabled for GPRS browsing
through another device. This might cost you something
extra, but not too much. It is charged typically per
data volume.
Best of luck! have faith - this can work. Search this Forum
for help, and feel free to ask questions. I had troubles
with my setup (T616+UX-50) and I found all the help
here.
Best regards,
DrZ

Hi All,
Thanks for the replies so far. Vision is quite correct, what I am trying to do is to establish a GPRS connection to the Internet via bluetooth (UX50 and V600). My service provider is Cingular.
I have found a number of threads which describe how you can setup this connection for Cingular. However, when I try to follow these instructions I always get stuck as the UX50 cannot "find" the V600 as noted in my previous post.
Any further information would be appreciated as it appears this process is not straight forward and intuitive.
Thanks

To Guest (Darren),
You still did not give all info needed to help (Data or Dial-up transfer), although Knowing your provider narrows it a bit where I may step in to give some instructions.
If you are planning to transfer data to the UX from your V600 with the Cingular you must first purchase or have a data plan that works with Laptops (PDAs) wired or unwired. This plan has two purchase levels, that customers pay by MB; 1. $2.99 FOR 0.5MB, 2.$9.99 For 2MB. With these plans the overage per MB is $10.24 thats $10.24 x 1MBs when you go over your plan. I can go over 1MB in one sitting just reading my junk mail! Cingular's plan is so out of scale compared to T-mobile ($19.00-Unlimited) or Sprint ($14.00-Unlimited) you have to be a Millionaire that throws money around to average 100MBs a month with Cingular's rates. So to get to this connection you might have one of these plans so follow this:
First open the UX to Network in Preferences, then press the Preferences tab to make a new connection by pressing New. In this page you are setting up a new connection configuration, so press the Connection arrow you may have already made this connection to your V600 if you are starting over you are going to make a new connection to the V600 by high-lighting Sony BT to GSM, then hit Done then re high-light Sony BT to GSM and now hit Edit on the bottom. Now you are going to set-up you V600 as the Bluetooth Device by Tapping the name next to Device: surrounded in a box of dots, by tapping you are searching for a new Bluetooth device so please make sure your V600 is in Find me Under Menu-Connections-Bluetooth-Find me. Then the UX will find and bond the V600 as a Bluetooth device (I believe you did this but I'm writing these steps for other's who might find it useful too). At this time you should Name Phone: V600 and press Done or OK, then high-light your new named connection and press Edit again to change Connect to: Local Network (do not use Phone, Computer or Modem). You should see:
Name: V600 (you name your phone)
Connect to: Local Network
Via: Bluetooth
Device: Motorola Phone (default name when bonding devices)
Details.. are not touched and or at Auto and Speed is at 115,200 bps. Press OK and Done going back to Network Preferences. Rename-Sevices: Cingular GPRS, now change-User Name: ISPDA@CINGULARGPRS.COM, now change-Password: CINGULAR1. The window should look like this:
Service: Cingular GPRS
User Name: ISPDA@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: -Assigned-
Connection: V600
Important that the User name and Password are all CAPITAL LETTERS
Now press Details... and there are Script to be configured. Press Script..., tap arrow to Send: type "ATZ", next tap arrow again for a new script line, look for Send CR: ( you can not type anything here), tap arrow again, find Send: type "AT+CGDCONT=1,IP,wap.cingular", tap arrow to Send CR:, tap arrow again to Send: type "ATD*99***1#", tap arrow to Send CR:, finally tap arrow and find End: ( you can not type anything here too). If it looks like below press OK then OK again.
Send:ATZ
Send CR:
Send:AT+CGDCONT=1,IP,wap.cingular
Send CR:
Send:ATD*99***1#
Send CR:
End:
With pressing OKs, you are going to be able to transfer data using Cingular's Data connection with GPRS plan witch is up to 3x faster the CSD dial-up connection. Press Connect to send General Packet Radio Service to your UX by Initializing and Signing ON. You are ready to Surf the net by opening your browser.
For CSD dial-up you are going to have a Cingular Wireless plan at $3.99 at 9.6kbps (slow) that will not give you GPRS speeds (10-30kbps). Check with your minute plan to see if it includes or allow dial-up currently (may have it and don't know it). Follow the above setting and configuration with the differences in User Name:, and Password:. In the Network Preferences page. Change User Name: "WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM", and the Password: "CINGULAR1" all in CAPITAL LETTERS. The UX page should look like below:
Service: Cingular GPRS
User Name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password; -Assigned- (CINGULAR1 -but you can not see it in this box since it's assigned)
Connection: V600
Use the same script lines too there are no changes except as mentioned. You are now ready to connect and the UX will connect to the V600 when the bluetooth is ON. You will see the UX Initialize, then Sign on and then Connect. You can now open your Browser and surf the net. Remember it's sssllooooow and it uses your minutes, Cingular is so SMART. Try it see how it works, if you follow these steps your ON. Good luck this should save you time and headaches (I'm still recovering).
Vision
Vision,
this is a great description for Darren. I agree with most of
your comments (I certainly agree with quoted prices). I pay
35 USD for 20 MB for Cingular GPRS.
I find that pricey, but OK for the fun provided.
While I am still enthusiastic that is about right, but I expect
my data consumption to decrease over time. Since UX-50
is so expensive, it makes sense to enable it fully with good
GPRS and ample data volume. In retrospect, I should
have chosen T-Mobile but they must have some quirks
of their own, as all cellphone providers do.
I have T616 and UX-50, and live in San Jose. Since I started
carefully measuring I am seeing consistent 44 kbps. It also
works everywhere unlike (equally pricey) Wi-Fi.
I noticed your advice is geared towards manual settings. Have
you tried Mobile Manager Wizard and generic GSM phone
setting? That might be simpler for Darren, yet I do not
know if it is going to work, since I do not have V600?
Best regards,
DrZ

I agree about some hang-ups that other providers have, but they are Right ON with their price packages, it's what the people want. As for the Mobile Manager Wizard that's a negative it does not work, plus some people have Macs (Apple). It's clear to me that Sony does not cater to some parties that are competive, in the case of Apple computers and Motorola.
Vision
Vision,
thanks - that is something I was suspecting...(about Motorola
V600 ever fitting generic GSM phone). There seems to be
too many different standards, approches and options with
cell phones - really bad that Mobile manager won't work
with V600. By the way - many other BT Sony Ericsson phones
are not supported either...

Vision,
Thanks for taking the time to post a detailed description to help us all out.
Following your instructions I have definitely made more progress and have now managed to establish a connection whereby the UX50 is trying to "sign in" and "logon".
Although I have a "data plan" with Cingular I'm not sure what type it is (I think it is GPRS) but I will need to check.
Hopefully with this information I can sort this all out.
Again thanks and I'll keep everyone posted on how I do.

Hi all,
I am experiencing a bluetooth connectivity problem similar to Darren's...
I recently bought a new Motorola V600 phone from Cingular and I'm having trouble estabishing bluetooth connectivity with the phone and my PDA (Sony UX-50).
My UX-50 was able to find the V600 and add it into the "trusted devices" list. However, everytime I try to edit the "Sony BT to Generic GSM" connection, my UX-50 does not pick anything up.
Also, when I go to the phone tab under preferences and run the "test" my UX-50 still doesn't pick up my V600.
I do have the latest version of Mobile Manager on my computer and the V600 does have my UX-50 listed as a device.
Could you please help me?
Best Regards,
Woodrow

the initializing process keeps repeating itself over and over and over and i am not able to connect. What does that mean?

Clay_Russell,
Make sure you have a strong signal and double check that your Bluetooth is enabled on both devices. Look at your Trusted devices in the Clie to see if it is truly paired if not repeat pairing.
I sometimes get that error and power down the V600 and reset the bluetooth back on, same with the UX, I disable it and re-enable it and I'm back browsing.
Thanks, Vision

PROBLEMS SOLVED!!
Thanks vision for your help as well as the other guy who helped me. I followed all your instructions vision except for one. As a username for GPRS i used WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM instead of ISPDA@CINGULAR.COM and it connected and it works fast!!! No help from CINGULAR or SONY customer service. Thanks to the good old Cliesource or 1source forums. Now that I have figured this out I am transfering my address data to my Motorolla V600 (to heck with the T616, had it and hated it) with ease and also listening to my favorite 80's station on my PDA thanks to shoutcast and ptunes. Now what plan do I use? That's the only question I got left, that and how in the world do i start a new thread on this site? I would start a new one to help the V600 owners but couldn't figure out. I guess I haven't adjusted to the new site just yet.
Thanks again,

Clay_Russell,
I'm pleased to read that you are up and running, you are very welcome. I really had no way to tell what choice you enter as the User name, since I posted walk through-s for both ways to connect. Oh yea, I agree with you about your old SE616 you probably don't miss it now that you have the V600, because I don't.
Tell me, what do you mean when you state "Now what plan do I use?"
That brings up another question what data plan did you go with and what was your rate with Cingular?

Clay,
congratulations! That sounds great. I am a bit sorry you don't like
T616, ;-(, but-hey - we are all here for UX-50 and that is most important!
The great thing is that it works for you the way it should.
The great service you can do for 1src is to post all the information
about your setup (while it is still fresh). I have no soubt you will
figure out how to start the thread...(at the start page
http://www.1src.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=69, there is a button
in the lower left corner "new thread" - click on it).
regarding plans - this is somewhat contraversial. As I mentioned earlier,
I subscribed to Wireless Internet Express and 1MB plan=7, 5 MB=14 USD,
and 20 MB=35 and 79 USD gives you unlimited. Some lucky folks
(user name rkub, Orange County, CA) succeeded connecting with
media works plan and gained unlimited access for 20 USD. When I
called customer support and technical support (this exists btw, but
you have to be persistent and talk very technical lingo to first person
you talk to, confuse them completely and request technical support!),
they told me this will not work if phone is used as GPRS modem
because they DISABLE GPRS modem by default for media works plan.
Basically, their intention is that media works provides unlimited MB's
for WAP browser on the phone (which basically means most 5 MB per
month if you use WAP 24 hrs a day...). Good thing about my
Wireless express plan is that I consistently achieve 44 kbps speed,
quite respectable for my setup.
Congratulations, good luck and happy UX50-ing!

DrZ

Here it goes!
No strings attached!
$19.99 unlimited bluetooth browsing on your PDA w/ Cingular
that is great compared to AT&T at $74.99/month!
so browse on! (get the V600 and read this thread for easy connection the first time!

Are you sure it is unlimited for $19.99 (MEdia works package)? I believe the fine print says "MEdia packages are not available of PDA devices" ... where's the catch?

Thanks to this thread, I actually managed to connect my new Motorola Razr to my UX via BT. However, I am having problems doing anything at all via this connection.
When I connect, I sign on and everything seems ok. On my Razr, it says GPRS active. However, if I go to network log and ping an address, it times out. This is the same with all apps. I cant use Verichat, Netfront, Stock Manager, etc. They all seem to send data, but nothing comes back!!!
Vision, can you help? Is this due to my provider's settings? I am in Azerbaijan....so probably harder to figure out unlike Cingular/Tmobile. I can use GPRS on my Razr though to surf wap sites. Help please!

Thanks Vision for the time taken to explain connection: mine works perfectly following your instructions.
The BIG problem with v600 and UX however, is that you must activate each time the bluettoh connection on v600. There's no way to keep it on all times
It's a pity..
