Hello to you all, I have just bought a TG50 Clie and I need some assistance! I have always been a huge Sony fan and have been considering a Clie for ages. It is a hell of a change from my Psion 5 (which is still in my opinion a ingenius little machine) and the palm OS is totally new to me.

Unfortunately the tg50 has no instructions or hotsync software, as I bought it 3 weeks old and these were replaced by a CD which does not work, I am chasing this, but would like to know what is the alternative to this, can I get this software of the web?

Also, I have downloaded a finance program, but what other essential software would you recommend? And finally I have a Sony Ericsson T610 mobile, they find each other but i can't get the Clie to accept files from the phone, such as little photos. Any ideas about compatability and how I can get the clie on the web using the T610.

Sorry if all these questions, but after browsing the forum I realised just how technical these little things are and just how little I know about Palm OS or sony clie's. Hotsync isn't an immediate problem as my laptop has a MS drive for file transfers.

Welcome to our little community! I hope you'll come to love your TG-50 as many of us do on this board. As to what software, there's a very useful discussion of that found here. (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58)

I thought there was an ftp site for the installation CD but that seems to have gone away ... will keep looking for that.

I use a Sony Ericsson T610 with my TG-50 with AT&T Wireless over GRPS. Who is your wireless provider? The first thing you need to do is download the driver for your phone, which you can get from PalmOne. (http://www.palmone.com/us/support/downloads/phonelink.html) Click on the Phone Link Update.zip. Downloading this will give you a file of phone drivers, including several generic ones. Unzip the file, and install the ones called Sony-ET610... and SonyGenericGSM... For a long time I could only use the generic one, then AT&T changed something, and now I can only use the T610 specific one. HotSyncing both these .prc files will give you a couple of options to try. Let us know who your wireless carrier is and we can help you with the rest.

Kim ;) :p

I see you discovered the thread about the members who had the CD installation files and were willing to share them!

To PM someone (to send a personal message), select the "Profile" tab at the top of the page, then click on "Private Messages". At the bottom of the page you can create a new message. User names appear to the left of posts.

I hope you'll find someone still in a cooperative mood!

Kim ;)

Or just click on the PM icon at the bottom of the member's post that you want to contact. :)

Thanks for the reponses. I live in the UK and my mobile provider is O2. Not sure the easiest way to get online with them on the go, but i'll visit their site and see what they suggest.

I'm really frustrated at the moment with my Clie, my Sony Laptop has a built in MS drive so I can transfer files easily enough to my Clie, but it won't play any of the mpegs or mp3's, and I guess this is because I need all the conversion bits that come on the CD.

Too be honest I haven't a clue (am downloading an instruction manual now for it) how to even install software which I could get onto a memory stick! I'm pretty stuck at the moment without the cd.

If anyone in the UK wants to copy the TG-50 CD and post it to me i'll be happy to pay them for it, I have a paypal account or could mail them a cheque. I really need this CD, my Clie is pretty limited without. (I want to play mpegs and MP3's to show it off!) I can download it if anyone has an copy and filesharing.

Really appreciate your help.

Once you get the CD files, this application (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&SID=3E21B553-CF18-ADC9-17707346FDB6C597&PartnerREF=&prodID=55209) might be useful in helping you get your configuration set correctly for your provider.

Sorry I can't help with the rest!

Got the cd from a thread on this board and am finally beginning to find my way around Palm OS. Really pleased with the hot sync and have spent all night moving my finances from my old Psion to my Clie. Good to have the instant no-hassle back up option.

Thanks for all the help, I might have to buy that software for mobile web, but i'll have a go myself first and hope for the best!
