View Full Version : Does anyone have a clean screen protector?

I never used a screen protector on my m500. I got a couple of small scratches in two years, but nothing serious. I installed a Boxwave Cleartouch on my TH55 today, and although I was careful, there are at least a couple of dozen specs of dust under the protector. I used canned air to blow off the dust after cleaning the screen carefully, and I reinstalled a couple of times to remove a bubble-causing spec of dust, but I can still see lots of small specs everytime I open my device. Is this worth it, or is a clean install possible without a clean room? I'm gonna try it for awhile, but I'm considering going back to a bare screen.

BTW, I am registered.

i just got a cleartouch too and scotch tape really helped with the specs & hairs big enough to cause bubbles. just use a piece of tape to lift up a corner and another piece to stick the stuff away.

now my screen only has very tiny hairs and specs (no bubbles) that are only visible when the screen is off and you're looking for them.

hope that helps.

i had some Inkjet Window Decals that I had bought from Staples a while back. it was easy to cut down to size for my th55, b/c the decals (xerox brand, i think) have these neat white lines on back side. anyway, it works great.

i realize this post is gonna sound confusing if you've never bought Window Decals before, just stop by the b&m if interested..

Yes, Socram, I used tape to get the bubble-causing specs out, but there are many more that are not causing bubbles but are still visible. I guess I'll just have to learn to ignore them.

I also had a Boxwave briefly, but I hated all the debris underneath it. Then I looked at my two-year-old S320 and discovered it didn't have any scratches whatsoever. So I returned it and my TH55 is going naked.

I think I do pretty good screen protector applications. The one on my TH is one of my best efforts so far. I use lots of scotch tape and move very slowly. If I see even the slightest speck I peel back the protector and get it. It takes a while, but it looks great. The other thing is I put the protector on as soon as I get the Clie, so there's no time for dust or fingerprints to get on the screen.

I was foolish enough to buy the Palm Universal Screen Protecters.

They are really, really, really crap.

Heh, I don't have a case yet, so nudity it is. I look forward to my TH55 going commando with one of the new metal cases, though. :D

i just installed a PDAir screen protector (not ARM!) without almost any dust specs etc.

All i can say is that i prob got alittle lucky.

I removed the ONE piece of backing (not four) and immediately got perfect placement with my first try, so it just has to be luck.

There were three little air bubbles which i carefuly guided out to the edge and away with small circular motions of my stylus towards the edge. I think this is the trick, dont keep lifting and replacing the protector as it will naturally gather more dust.

I think its the best installation ive had - near perfect, just half a mm further up and it would have been perfect, but good enough.

I dont think in any normal conditions your not going to get fine dust particules moving around everywhere - just how many get caught is luck.

so i have a PDAir screen protector and a Covertec case....mines respectfully fully clothed!

I have suggested before and again try using the 3M High Performance Cloth before you stick on the screen protector. It really helps to lift up alll debris entirely!!!  Check it out!!!

I just got my Martin Fields Screen Protector ... Let me tell you that you cannot even tell that it is on, that is how clear it is... Wow, the only problem is that my digitizer does not respond the same as it did. Simcity is much harder to play, and I have more errors with Graffiti 2 ... I am thinking about taking it off... But don't get me wrong, it is very clear.

I've has success installing with both Brando and Boxwave. One recent trick I came up with is to wear latex gloves while handling the protector. This way you don't have to worry about fingerprints and such. That combined with a 3M cleaning cloth and canned air have made for clean, easy installs.

Urban75- I agree the palm ones are crap.

I compared screen size with a buddy with a T3, and the size seemed the same, so i ended up buying some T3 protectors, turns out that although the screen size was the same, the palm screen protectors were shorter, apparently they don't cover the status bar or something. it really pissed me off.

I have a TH55 + ARM crystal clear edition. It took me a while to make it almost perfect.

At first I did it in the bathroom after someone took a shower.
(Doing this in a college dorm made me look funny >_<)
The water vapor traps the dust particles in the air and make them settle down to the ground.

If you use canned air in a non-dust-free room, one thing you must notice that is the high pressure air distorts the air around your working area, which makes dust coming onto the screen even faster.

Since ARM crytal edition is acutally a piece of hard plastic, I had no trouble with the finger prints, since all I had to do is grab the edges securely.

When you're applying the protector, if you see a dust trapped on the sticky side of the protector, use 3M Scotch tape ON the sticky side of the protector. If the protector is more sticky than the tape then you're pretty much screwed, because there's no way to remove the dust without leaving trails (tape residue or finger prints)

Here's some picture of how I applied my screen protector without using a credit card-type aid, which Sony declared that you can easily mess up the digitizer of TH55 with.

How did you edit and/or add text to your pictures with the TH55?
