View Full Version : Bad Sector on Memory Stick!?

Hi Everyone,

I have an NX70v with a 128 mb memory stick (the purple one). In the middle of last week, at one point, my Clie suddenly didn't recognize any of the files on it. I popped it out and put it back in and things were fine. Then just a minute ago, I got a message when backing up my data to the memory stick that said "error - not all data backed up". When I tried to access the memory stick, I got a "bad sector" error message. Once again I popped the memory stick out of the Clie and put it back in and things are now running fine, no problems. Is this a rare occurrence that I shouldn't worry about or is this a warning sign that the memory stick is going to blow soon and I should buy a new one?

Thanks,

Jeremy

it may be bad. if you had a card reader iwould try copying all the fiels then format it and put them back on and see if that does it.

Got a similar problem: In my case, MSIMPORT would crash my Clié when it came across such a block. And my external reader wouldn't accept the MS in the first place. I tried Scandisk, which reported nothing (per-sector-check included), but I am certain there were error: Like: MoviePlayer crashing at some movies, outsourced applications locking up, Filez throwing various error messages at me (none of which made sense). In the end, after formating on every device had failed, I tried formating by using the Clié. And so far it seems like a success.

BTW I've got a purple Lexar. The best of luck from me.

I hope this isn't the start of an issue we had with the NR70's. Most started having problems with their Clie reading the memory stick because of weak spring contacts inside the Clie.

On my NR70, I used to have to press on the back of it while inserting the memory stick so the Clie would read it. Typing on the keyboard would also drive it nuts.

No, looks more like a software problem. And it seems like Windows caused it in the first place {The device first crashed when I moved a couple (~400) of really small (<2kb) around between my HD and the Clié}
