hi guys,
Just wondering why Winamp doesn't produce a MP3 player for the Palm platform ? I would have thought this was a natural extension of their market seeing that the are the king of the hill in terms of Windows-based MP3 players.
Just a random thought. :p
cheers,

Most likely because it would require a total rewrite of the software. Just my guess.

I *WAS* going to code a program that looks just like winamp for the Clie.... as a DA type app so you could launch it while in any other application.. it would even be able to use winamp2 skins off the memory stick.. but noo, sony didn't release the MSA api for os5 so I can't do it :(

Keep in mind that WinAmp survives off of revenue from live audio and some advertising. Both of those functions would be difficult to realistically implement on a PDA.
and AOL owns Winamp... <shudder>

Then they should make a more stable player...oh wait, AOL doesn't do stable...

I don't have stability issues w/ Winamp.

Must be they have made quite a bit of improvments to Winamp 3. I used Winamp 2 for the longest time and loved it, tried version 3 and the thing crashed and had so many bugs, I had to get rid of it. Thought of going back to version 2, but now I'm just using the plain Windows Media Player.

I am also using the "old" WinAmp 2 - if it aint broke, dont fix it. Never have any problems....it just plays mp3s like its supposed to.

Winamp 3 is running like a dream for me. Maybe you were using the Winamp 3 beta?

I also had problems with earlier "versions" of Winamp 3, but the latest one works just fine and has a lot of new features, which were not available in version 2.

I also had a ton of problems with 3. Went back to 2.
Those running 3, can it display the length of total tracks selected in playlist...I think it was missing in early 3s.

I tried 3, very few plugins, unacceptable load time. So I headed back to 2 and runs flawlessly and starts up in no time.

Well, hopefully they'll continue to improve on it. I particularly like a couple of the skins. Small and out of the way.
To answer an earlier question, no they still don't list total playtime for a playlist from what I can see.

I had a LOT of problems with the beta for winamp3. I've had no problems with it now (With the final version).
It adds a lot of nice things over winamp2... especially the multiple playlists and media library.

I have been reading in the forums lately about some of their issues. It seems the biggest issues are with the Media Library. They are actually telling people not to use it. They are working on new builds, but for some reason they have not publicly released a build to fix the existing bugs.
This is dissappointing. I would expect more from a mature operation such as theirs.
