CF modem & Earthlink

I am still having trouble connecting with the Ambicom modem and the CF utility files I downloaded. I use Earthlink as my ISP and remember someone saying they had no problems.

I have been able to connect, but not consistently. Since I have made the connection several times, I think things are close, and the modem is working, but some tweaking is probably needed.

The light comes on and I get past dialing to "signing on", but most times I end up with the light going out and the dreaded "PPP timeout error" message. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Consider the folowing, I'm using an "Ambicom" CF modem.

Modem Settings:
Under the Edit Connection feature of preferences my modem is selected as "analog".

Under "Network" Settings, I have the following:

User Name: ELN/"your user name"
Password: "your password"
Connection: "ambicom"
Phone:"your local dialup number"

Then select the details button under "Network"
Connection Type: "PPP"
Idle Timeout: "1 Minute"
Query DNS: "leave unchecked"
Primary DNS: 207.217.77.82
Secondary DNS: 207.217.120.83
IP Address: "check the Automatic box"
Don't worry about writing anything in the Script section.

These settings have given me unfettered access top my Earthlink ISP.
