Ok this sounds like a silly question but was just reading the manual and I noticed in the specs it says:

OPERATING TEMPERATURE:

41 Degree to 95 Degree Fahrenheit

Does that mean you are not suppose to use it below 41 degrees? That cannot be right? Because what do you do in the winter?

In NY it must be close to 10 degrees right now?

I am not worried, but I dont get it?

The LCD display contrast and the Li-Ion battery life both become horrible at near or below freezing temperatures. On winter nights, I have to keep my Clie under my coat to keep it warm and only use it out in the cold air for a few minutes at a time.

Well, I can't speak for the nz90 because I just got mine, but I have had no problems with previous clies. I work outside everyday and keep mine it my pants pocket. In the summer time, I am usually outside for 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. The temps can get above 100, and eveything is fine. Even now, I have been using mine outside in 10 degree weather, no problem. So, my experiences are fine, but I can't say for anyone else.
