I bought a genuine SONY screen protector (PEGA-SP60) for my TJ-37 and affixed it. Now I have to tap really HARD with my stylus to get the PDA to readily respond. Anybody else having this type of problem with their protector? I would have thought that the manufacturer's own product line would have been the best choice. Would switching to some other brand make a difference?

I use the Martin Fields protector. Although it's not the same type as you have, it's very clear (looks invisible to the eye) and I don't have to tap too hard at all.

This might represent an alternative for you.

I've been disappointed in my Sony screen protector too. It doesn't respond to taps and graffiti as well as the Brando I had on my NR and it scratches very easily. It's also a dust magnet when trying to put it on.

I don't have the "hard tapping symptom" with my Sony Screen Protector... Is there any big air bubbles or dusts on your screen? AND is your protector located at the centre of the screen without touching (or even worse, underneath) the screen-edge? (I also had a TJ-37, so either you didn't apply your protector correctly, or you are having a defective unit.)

As for scratch, it's acceptable for me... at least, it's not as bad as those cheap brands that needs to be discarded once every week/month or so. It should at least last you a few months or much more, before the scratches making your display hard to read.

And the Sony protector is 90% clear -- unlike some other brands (even expensive ones) that will cloud the display under direct lightings from the very first day of use.

But of course, there are better protectors out there (may be not in the stores around you, but available on the net) with similar or higher price-tags. Good luck. (And there are also threads/topics discussing/comparing different brands of protectors. Do a search on screen protectors.)

i agree with ky933, the sony ones are ace, not too cloudy, not too scratchy, but a bugger to put on!!

Beware, that Sony Screen Protector will scratch in no time and be careful of touching the screen (fingerprints)

I use the Boxwave Screen protectors... others are better (i found out the hard way)

Just get used to pressing slightly harder. Not much of a problem here.:) How does pressing a little harder make it not a good choice?

In 5 months I have one scratch just because I wanted to see what would scratch it and it was the end of a jaged metal paper clip, nothing else has scratched it to date. What do you people do to your screens?!?! Use pocket knives and barbed wire for a stylus?

As we are humans, we leave fingerprints on most things we touch. I don't know of a screen protector that will not register fingerprints. Anyways, why would you press the screen with an entire finger? Why not a finger nail? And how do you become accurate with your entire finger being used on those little screen?

I've had my boxwave screen protector and NO fingerprints and no scratches.
What do i do to it? USE it. Styles. The Sony stylus... my graffiti area became blurry in no time.

DO YOU use graffiti? The graffiti area? =P

Fingerprints left accidentally with accidental handling =/

jmg_NX21, as wantclieinfo only has a TJ37 (which doesn't have a virtual graffiti area), scratches on the fixed graffiti area is not a problem at all. As of "washable", it is really arguable... I still can't figure out a way to remove my Sony protector from the screen... so i guess they mean, "washable" with a little lens cleanser fluid + a wipe. Haha.

ya I think it is washable, I have run mine under water and it still sticks quite well...

So, can I peel it off and try to re-apply it? How many times over can you make attempts to "get it right" and still have it stick to the screen?

The sony protector leaves some marks with a stylus. It's not really scratches, just basically some trails that you see you have dragged your stylus over. I got those from the very moment the sony CS put it on for me. After about a week, all those marks blend in and so ... just not very nice but ok.
