Any info out there about unsolicited antivirus software coming to your email? I received this today. We don't often get something for nothing. Is it a hoax? They're talking about "Ben Laden" virus.

Just kill all spam, all spam must die.

Seriously though, the best antivirus is that thing between your shoulders. Is that really a nude picture of a tennis player? The one with the .vbs extension? I don't think so.

Before I act on any virus rumors or threats, I check them out at one of the many virus information centers on the Internet. Symantec and McAfee both run one, and there are several other good ones out there.

I also do this with any e-mail promises about 'send this to 9 friends and get a free whatever' messages, etc. It is AMAZING how much of this stuff is pure bunk- and yet, so many people pass it on without doing any research.

Thank-you...as I thought it is better to be a bit cynical and alot cautious. Thanks.

By the way, for some fascinating reading on viruses, check out www.vmyths.com! They have all sorts of great articles. The history of the Michelangelo virus, for example, was wonderful!

You'll have a new perspective on viruses after reading this!

FYI: I heard the benladen virus is a hoax and a marketing scheme to sell software. Sometimes it's nice to be able to answer my own questions.
