Getting Email using a Clie NX70V + Siemens S46 + AT&T GPRS + Eudora 2.1 + Earthlink (using a Gomadic cable)
Setting this up was very tricky and other than finding the whole first section on Gomadic's support page, I had to glean a little here, a little there and finally do some educated guess work. I thought after all that (and before I forget) I should share what I learned.
<Make sure the Siemens phone is set as follows: go to Setup, Connectivity, select GPRS>
In Preferences: Connection
1: Tap Prefs, then choose Connections from the drop down menu at the top
2: Select New and name your connection ComCube. In the “Connect To” field choose PC via Cradle/Cable.
3: Tap Details, Set the speed to 57,600 Flow Ctl: On
4: Tap OK (twice). Go into Network. Create a new Service and name it ComCube
5: Type in the letter A for the Username and the letter A for the password.
6. Change connection to ComCube
7: Tap on Details. Connection Type is PPP, Idle Timeout is Never, Query DNS should be checked and IP Address should be checked.
8. Tap Script. Tap on End and change it to Send, type AT+CGDCONT=1,”PROXY” Change End to Send CR. Change End to Send atd*99#. Change End to Send CR. Change End to Send: ccc then End. (total of 6 lines of code)
9. Tap OK twice and press connect.
I was very excited to get this far and actually get connected, but here's where it started to get tricky. I would suggest having a new spam-free account specifically for this purpose.
1. Enter Eudora, and go to Accounts on the Options menu
2. Click New
3. Under the Basic tab, enter your return address
4. Enter your user name. This is the whole thing ie: fred@fred.com
5. Enter your Incoming server, in this case it's pop.business.earthlink.net
6. Enter your outgoing server, in this case smtpauth.earthlink.net (this is tricky as Earthlink has just started allowing authenticated SMTP mail service.)
7. Under the Receive tab enter the number of lines (I entered 50) and how many recent messages you would like it to fetch.
8. Click Overlap POP3 commands, enter your trash preferences and any server deleting options.
9. Under the Send tab, enter your Real Name and any Auto BCC address
10. Leave the Default Domain blank
11. Enter a signature you would like and click Send Immediate
12. Under the Security tab, and Incoming (POP),do not enter anything under Server Info
13. Click Save Password and have your password ready to enter
14. Authentication is Plain (USER) and Security (SSL) is If Available
15. Under Outgoing (SMTP), do not enter anything under Server Info
16. Authentication is Best Available , Password Saved and SSL is None
17. Click Send & Check Mail and you should connect and be able to get and sena mail
Well, that worked for me, I hope it helps someone else. Thanks to everyone who posted information that helped me get this far.
