View Full Version : My wish for a new type of Clie

I wish for four different new types of clie:
1) T680 - $499
Size of the T655 (maybe slightly larger)
16mg available
Virtual Graffiti
MP3
HiRES+
Palm OS5.1
Good battery life
2) T680V - $599
Like the T680 but with the Camera/voice recorder of the NX
3) T690 - $680
Like the T680 but with built in blue tooth or extra memory stick slot for blue tooth MS
4) T690V - $750
Like T690 but with the Camera/voice recorder of the NX
Of course I would prefer the NZ camera, but I do want the smaller size. - add $75
I think the most important thing here is size. #2 for me, I don't ever use the keyboard of the NX. In fact, I am afraid my screen is going to "break off" every time a rotate and open/close it becomes more "wobbley".

Mine would include at least 32 megs of memory, palm OS 5 (or better), great battery life. Would still have virtual grafitti of course.

I forgot about the 32meg memory.
I would just release four more and add a Z to the name for the 32 meg.
The T680Z/V (with the camera from the NZ of course)
$900
I would be the first in line if he had the size, battery life, and virtual graffiti as previously mentioned.

My models -
PEG-GX66:
Built in slide-open/removeable gamepad that covers Graffiti 2 input area, with 8-way D-Pad, four action buttons (A, B, X, Y), and emulated Jog Dial support.
320*320 screen with VGraffiti2 supporting on-screen input
Palm OS6
200MHz Processor
32MB of RAM (28 User accesible)
Built-in TV Tuner Chip
Bluetooth
User replaceable battery
MS Pro Support
SJ Series form factor
Price - $269
PEG-NZ790:
Second Gen NZ90 Model.
Palm OS6
64MB of Internal Memory (59 User Accesible)
400MHz Processor
3.5MP Digital Camera
Built-in Bluetooh and 802.11b WiFi
HotSync Port in Standard location on the bottom.
Built-in TV Tuner Chip
Price - $850
PEG-TV665c:
320*480 screen
Palm OS6
Built-in TV Tuner Chip
32MB of RAM
Bluetooth
T Series Form Factor.
$300
1) Covers that can be taken off or folded back. The Palm V had a great cover system so why can't they do the same with the clie and have a bar on top?
2) At least 32 MB RAM.
3) 320x480 or 480x480 screen
4) Bluetooth
5) Pens that stay in the damn unit and don't fall out after short periods of time.
6) User replaceable battery?
7) Same size as T-665 or even N760C.
8) Battery life of 10+ Hrs., comparable to PPC.
9) MP3 player.
10) SD cards for heaven's sake and not the awful memory sticks (will never happen)
11) 8MB ROM or hopefully, 16MB.
12) Bluetooth would be nice...
Is this too much to ask for? Not freaking at all. Right now I'm looking at not buying another CLIE because after seeing the way the covers go 3/4 open on the current models I realize that Sony has totally lost focus on what the hell they are producing. Keeping 16MB RAM and 4MB ROM is just wrong...

This would be my ideal PDA . . . but make MP3 optional (like the 610/760...of course, the one without would be less expensive...) And my 'ideal' would have at least 32 meg of on-board ram... I would also NOT want a flip screen, but instead, some sort of hard protective cover that would lay flat against the back when flipped....

my dream pda:
~20gb memory (it could be done. slap a color screen and palm os on an ipod!)
~integrated wifi
~usb ports
~voice recognition
~640x640 screen
~no built in keyboard
~dual 400mhz xscale processors
~removable batteries (that can be charge outside of the handheld)
~TV tuner
~satellite radio reciever
~gps
~microwave
~all this in a package about the size of an NZ
am I really that far off? I think much of this could be done (except maybe the microwave)

How bout if on the front of the NZ there were 2 speakers? Right above the keyboard? So you could listen to music without having to turn it over? I love to show off Kinoma, but you can't hear anything cause the speaker is in the rear, usually covered up by the carry case.

Above the keyboard where? Wouldn't that make the unit inaudible in tablet mode?
Speakers above or below the screen make the most sense to me, although you could almost put them on the side of the unit if you directed the sound toward the user.

everything mentioned above, except it's a tiny implant in my eye, controlled by my thoughts, powered by the electric current of my brain, infinitely upgradeable.
oh, and it's free.

good thing, because I would hate to have to get a new implant in my eye every time Sony released a new one

I need a next-gen Clie (I'm currently using/loving a N760) that has:
VG
Palm 5.0
Camera
MP3
And, most of all, NO FREAKIN KEYBOARD
Honestly, the elephantine devices Sony is producing make no sense at all to me. The whole point of a PDA is a device you can carry everywhere. That's why they are distinct from that other category of device, the laptop.
The N760 is at the outer edge of size. The latest high-ends are pointlessly, comically big...

They are ENTERTAINMENT handhelds. If you want a handheld for business, go get the TG50 -- the thinnest PDA ever.
Have you even HELD an NR/NX/NZ? They are much more liveable than you're making them out to be. Heck, I don't even take out the WiFi card from my NX, and that adds half an inch to the height.
You DO realize that if you use the NX70V in tablet mode, you get everything that you asked for? You get the camera, the OS5, the big screen, the mp3, and you don't have to worry about the keyboard. Plus, the NX is about the same thickness as the T|T, which is pretty amazing given what it offers.

This is it to a T! The TX75.
http://www.dougplanet.com/TX75-.html
I would add - onboard USB 2.0 port. And a swappable rechargable battery (sans NZ90).

I think Sony already offers every kind of PDA for every kind of person that is currently possible with still keeping in a low enough price range for people to buy.
Yes they could design a PDA w/ 20gb of memory, 640x480 screen, 5 megapixel camera ,etc.. but it would cost way way too much w/ todays technology. maybe in a few years this will be a more realistic reality.
My perfect PDA, the NZ90!

I just don't get why Sony released an FM Radio memory stick. Wouldn't it make more sense to build the radio into the earphone remote control, like they did for my mini-disc player? (mz-g750 comes with FM/AM radio on the jog stick) And everybody seems to hate the thumb-board, so why release a clie with no grafitti, and just a thumb board? (the new t-series thing) I'd rather ditch the thumb board, and fill the space up with MORE BATTERY!

yeah, having them on the screen itself would be nice too. I guess I'm just seeing how small the speaker is already and that it could be placed elsewhere to give a bit more oomph.. :D

I'm suprised no one has suggested a mobile phone unit.
The structure could be in the clie but tehn use a Bluetooth headset to avoid having hold a brick to your ear.
Considering how small the Sony t68i is, I can't see making it that much bigger.
I noticed a couple of posts of trying to connect a Clie to T68i to BT Headset so someone out there thinks like me...
Take care all.

I am thinking take an Apple ipod (or other harddrive mp3 player), slap a 320x480 screen on it (from NX or NZ), add an xscale, and load in os5. wahla... a pda with 20gb built-in. Now how hard would that be for sony to do?

All I want, and want badly, is a high-end Clie sans the pointless keyboard. Thanks.

Is this a real unit Sony is making? It looks great, but hte reason I ask is that the web page contains the following phrase at the bottom of it:
"This is a parody page designed by Bionic Antboy (doug@dougplanet.com)target=_blank> (http://www.dougplanet.com/)"
Did you know about that? Does that mean that this is not a real product in the pipeline?

I had that springboard for my Visor... you know, the Eye-implant-thought-control-infinite-power Springboard Module. I think PiTech made it... boy I miss the Visor...
