Does anyone think the new Tungsten W is worth considering over the upcomming TG50? Palm is claiming some pretty huge battery life and the unit is very small in size.

Um, the T|W's only packing a 33MHz Dragonball, and they left out the voice recorder, mp3 playback, Bluetooth radio, and OS5. All for the low, low price of $549.
The T|W isn't an option. I mean, really; a TG50 / T68i combo is cheaper than the T|W, and is a much, and I mean MUCH more capable combination. You'd be getting a great phone and a great PDA, instead of a truly low-end PDA and a practically worthless phone.
Just forget the T|W.

Do you have a Bluetooth phone? Or are you already planning to get one? If so, the TG50 is probably for you.
If not, you need to add the cost of one (about $300) to the cost of the TG50 if you want to be able to do what the T|W can do out of the box.
I don't know where mashoutposse gets the idea a TG60/T68i is cheaper than a T|W. The combo works out to be $700 for me. However, the rest of his points are valid.
Also, check to be sure AT&T is available in your area. If not, the T|W isn't for you.

Well, first the t/w wasn't designed to be a cell phone- its main purpose is for email and web stuff- and what do i need bluetooth for when the t/w is always conected to my workstation via gpsr- even so the t/w can do bluetooth by using the available palm bluetooth card. and os5 doesn't do much more than os4.??

Ed: Over here in NYC, you can get a T68i for $100 and under with a service contract (free isn't uncommon, either). I'm assuming that you'd need to pay for service with the T|W, as well, so it cancels out.

I think the TW is a nice step in the right direction and much better than the model it's replacing-the i705. However, as Mashoutposse stated, a bluetooth phone and the TG50 would give you the best of both worlds. A small, separate phone for when all you need is voice and a multimedia handheld with an ARM processor that can also connect wirelessly through the phone for when you need full email and internet. The phone will work like a phone and not force you to use a headset and you won't be sacrificing the ARM processor and OS5. This is the option I'm looking at. I would prefer an ARM smartphone with a phone-centric design running Palm OS5 or higher, but there isn't one right now so the TG50/bluetooth phone will have to do.

Both the TG50 and T68i are extremely small devices, so carrying two items isn't such a bother in this case. The T68i in particular is small enough for you to drop it in your pocket and forget about it.
If the T|W had the specs of the TG50 (as it should), THEN Palm would have something.

What if there was a TG50/M model that had built-in GSM/GPRS capabilites and no Bluetooth? Would that be better than the T|W? In my opinion, no. The T|W may work for some, but for $400 I can get the TG50 and still come out ahead feature wise. As for the GPRS capabilities of any device here in the Tucson, AZ area there are no GPRS capable careers that do not charge out of the arse for data time. I get unlimited data with my Sprint PCS Vision phone ($10 a month), and I hope (and almost pray) that they will have an affordable Bluetooth enabled 3G CDMA cell phone sometime soon. When that does happen, then I'd have a match made in heaven.
