Clie Stolen

Anybody,

I have just had my Clie (NX80) stolen.

What will happen with the licenced software I have pruchased?
Can the software be tracked? Do i need to purchase user activation keys again? Unfortunately i did not have the security option turned on - I will definately do this from now on and recommend all do it - even if it is a pain sometimes!!!

What other issues or problems will i encounter when i purhcase a replacement Clie and try to get back to status I was at re programs, games etc?

Well, if you have a backup and continue to use the same user/HotSync name as the old unit-No Problem.
I really don't think you have to worry about "being tracked".

I hate having to type in a password every time i turn my palm on-- is there any way to type a password in like once a day? not for security for my files, but to screw anyone that steals it?

Well, unless they happen to have a spare charger (or they nicked yours at the same time) your data's only going to last till the battery dies.

Just claim the insurance and get a newer, bigger, better and more exciting one.

In Security, select "Auto Lock Handheld." There is an option to set a time for your PDA to lock.

I stopped using that autolock feature becaue it overrides the stay on in cradle....

Does anybody know if there's a way to get it to stay on in cradle and yet have the autolock once a day thing on?

that sucks dude . . . . but yeah- your programs can still be used with the same activation keys you have with you. just make your new clie have the same hotsync/user name. for the folks that stole your clie, if they ever hard reset, they will lost the programs and keys anyway

Yes. . . I had a similar thing happen.  All you have to do is get in touch with palmgear and tell them what happened.  Just remember all of your software, and your hotsync name, and they'll remove the old you from their database, and give you a whole new registration code.  And as for those who try to gouge you. . . just go download serialz2000 (no there is no spyware piggybacked on it), and download all the updated databases (link below).  You are just about guaranteed to have any serial you want in there.

Don't mention it -- that's what we're here for. Magnus is right, however. It does screw with the auto-off function, but for me the peace of mind is worth it.

Well it wont matter to me, the stay on in cradle function doesnt seem to work for me at all. Can't seem to figure it out.
