Dear Forum

I bought TH55 2m ago to replace Visors which had had many HotSync problems. At first all was well but in last 2w the problem has recurred. I Sync to two PCs - home (XP laptop) and work (W2K desktop). Problem now is that when I Sync on Desktop PC the system hangs on "Synchronising Date Book" (the first item I think). When I try to cancel it on the PC it will not cancel and I have to go to "Task Manager" to close down the Hotsync interface. Similarly on the PDA I have to do a soft reset.

I think the problem may be linked to Syncing over different OSs. Both were working fine at first (though much slower than I had hoped) so it is possible.

This of course renders the PDA as good as useless for my needs as I use Palm Desktop to enter most of the data on the desktop PC.

One other thing I have noted - the HotSync icon keeps disappearign from the system tray and I have to relaunch it each time. Before that would stay there all the time. Weird.

Help! Wondering if there are more robust HotSyncing products out there or if there are any obvious tricks to apply to the Palm product. NB I have checked that it is ticked for USB etc. Also the "PC Link" for my Memory Stick is working fine.

Be so grateful for ideas - this is HotSync misery at present

Did you grab the Sony updates (ClieOrg conduit, and on device)? They have cured the known syncing issues re hanging. Not at my desktop, so I can't provide the direct link. But it's the standard support page with downloads/updates, after selecting th55.

I had the exact same problem --- First thing I did was told both computers to stop syncing CO Datebook, and the all was better... After I ran the CO Update for PC and Handheld, I was able to re-activate the sync for CO Datebook.

Dear Treorenegade

Just a note to say THANK YOu for your advice which seems to have solved the problem. Hotsync is still surprisingly slow (?6-8 minutes) but was complete.

How was I meant to know to use that upgrade?
Most gratefully yours

I did notice that myself, syncing takes ages, more tha 6 minutes, the CO seems to take up most of the time.

Since I'm not using it, I wonder if I could just exclude it from the Hotsync operation.

Hi TreoRenegade / Anyone,

Also experiencing HotSync problems. I never had a chance to perform HotSync successfully. Everytime I do it, it just hangs on me. I need to do a Soft Reset or remove the physical connection then Turn Off and On the PDA unit. In addition, I can perform File exchange with my PC and the Memory stick.

Is it advisable to do the ClieOrg updates for this scenario? Can you tell me how to do the upgrade, where I can get hold of it and how to perform.

Thanks very much in advance.

Links to updates should be on your PC desktop from when you did your original installation at the icon "Clie Info". The URL you want (for English version) is <http://www.clie-link.com/UK/updates.asp?ID=1502&submenu=updates.asp&mainmenu=compatibility.asp>. There are three updates on this page and I installed them all when I fixed my problem.

Good luck

Thanks for the tip FunDoctor.

Actually, after reading much of the threads of HotSync problems here in CLIESource, I've managed to have a successful HotSync.

I followed some advise regarding NOT USING any USB hub and just directly connect the cable to the PC's usb slot. I also notice that the USB was not "Checked" during HotSync (i.e. at the HotSync icon on the system tray - :(
