Nah, I'll wait for the CF driver and invest in that

Yea true, but no one really knows when that will actually be!

Maybe, but I'd rather wait an extra couple of months for a cheaper solution rather than spend the 1200 Canadian dollars to get one. Maybe if the price comes down, to at least 600 canadian then I would buy one.

I wouldn't pay more than $100 for 1Gb. I mean come on.

Yea, but if I use the WiFi I would still want a large storage Memory stick.

I don't think so, unlee the price comes down drastically, I'd rather use my Compact Flash cards !
Sony should relase a patch for NX to work with MS PRO first!!!
Then I will start saving for a 2 gig MS! :D

MS Pro is definitely going to work with the NX. Dont worry about that. They've said it will be compatible.
1GB MS is only for the rich or stupidly eager people who must have it right when it comes out.... it'll be way down in price in the months following its release (be patient). Also, think -- do you really need 1GB? What would you use it for? Why isn't 512 or 256MB enough? Sure you can store lots of video on 1GB... but are you ever going to go through all that video in one or two days? If not, it's kinda pointless .. you can just switch the videos every couple days. Well, if you listen to lots of mp3s it would be nice... but you could get an ipod for that price :) (20gb)

A few things...
1) the data transfer rate is faster to a microdrive (which I own).
2) i can pop the microdrive into the pcmcia sleeve and transfer things WAY faster than i will EVER be able to (like the plethora of movies and mp3's that I play)
3) why would i use wifi to transfer 1GB of data when i can easily do number 2?
4) why would i pay 800 for something that is 200 and faster?
5) why would i pay 800 for something that is proprietary and can only be used in sony devices when i can pay 200 for something that works in far more devices

Nope, it's way too much money to spend on memory. For now, I have enough memory sticks.

Wrong, actually. MS Pro is nearly five times faster than Microdrive (~35Mb/sec versus 160Mb/sec).
MS PRO probably eats one tenth the power, too.

Don't hold your breath! I mean, sure it will happen, but not this year!

Hope you don't plan on using that microdrive without having the power cord in an outlet! Those things eat batteries for breakfast!

My money's going to mclaughlin's CF driver, not an overpriced stick :).

I'm using my WiFi card so CF memory is out of the question. I switched from PPC to Palm and I tell you I'll switch back to PPC like that compaq with bluetooth and wifi built in before I spend $800, yes that's the retail price, on memory. PDA storage should not cost more then the device it's going in to!!

I'm excited that it's coming out, but I would never spend that much money on it. The reason I'm excited is because it must come out prior to the price dropping. So, with luck, I'll have a 1 GB stick within a year or so!

using wi-fi and cf wouldn't be out of the question if we had a universal driver...sandisk (or someone) is creating a wi-fi card with storage built into it...that would rock...

I for one have had my fair share of pop outs and nearly losing them.
I've had my NX in my pants pocket only to hear that familiar sound of a memory stick being ejected.
Another story i had is when my memory stick 'flew' from the back seat of a car i was in and landed on the floor of the driver !! I think this card wanted a career change and thought it was superman !! true story.......

According to Amazon.com
128MB CF = $35.99
128MB MMC = $69.88
128MB Memory Stick = $89.99
Think I'll wait for the CF Driver.....

sorry dude, transfer speeds count for little.
CF has a bigger bus and accommodate caching technology... what does it all mean?
mspro's WRITE SPEED clocks in at 2MB per second
1GB microdrive... 2.6MB/sec (Minimum)
a microdrive is actually fast enough to capture MiniDV recording MSPRO is NOT
and then let's not even get into things like controlling file fragmentation... can you do that on an MS?

oh... and where are you getting your power consumption figures from?

i used to play 4 hours of mp3's on my jornada 430 with the screen off and the drive at full spin. yeah it heated up... but that's FOUR HOURS. that's 95% of a cross country plane ride considering the time that we're not allowed to use electronic equipment.
by contrast i docked my clie in the cradle (no power) and merely copied 65MB of mp3's to my memstick which took maybe 30 minutes... the battery was down to 30%. that's pretty shocking. so i'd REALLY like to know about the power consumption on a memstick.

A universal driver will NOT happen. Stop hoping for it.

And it will cost a fortune
If the only reason you're getting these huge memory sticks/microdrives is for mp3, why not just get an ipod? I know it's another separate device, but it's cheaper, still very small, and works a lot better as an mp3 player..

that small fortune is STILL cheaper than an ipod and the inconvenience of carrying aroud an ipod in addition to my PDA.
lug 2 devices? please. the 1GB microdrive debuted at 4 bills. this one will do the same as it's using ibm/hitachis new pixie dust technology which merely quadruples the amount of information you can store on the platter. that means it will cost ibm/hitachi the same coinage to develop as the current device. they MAY debut it at 5 but i doubt it...
either way still makes it WAY more economical than a MS... stop hatin'
reggae

oh by the way... this means that it will also consume 1/4 the power to retrieve information as the current unit.
lovin' it more by the minute.
