Hello, I am currently on holiday at Fontana CA. I recently ordered a TJ37 and it is now being delivered to me here at Fontana. I would like to know how can I access wifi hotspots here in the USA. Since I will only be here for a month it would be impractical for me to subscribe to providers here. I would like to be able to gain access to wifi on my trip to yellowstone, las vegas and LA area so that I could send and receive mail from relatives, people I am meeting there and other important contacts while I travel. Are there free access points? If there are fees is there a way to keep it down since I am also travelling on a budget. :( Sorry if I am asking dumb questions since I am new to wi-fi here and I am not a resident of the USA. Thanks!

There are free WiFi Access Points all over, you just have to know where they are. Since you are not going to be here very long, you would be much better off subscribing to a monthly pay service. T-Mobile offers a one month plan I believe, as well as a pay-as-you go plan. I feel this would be better for you as you can access T-Mobile in thousands of Starbuck's coffee shops all over the U.S.A., instead of having to hunt around for the odd free WiFi AP here & there, which will save you time & frustration.

Go here to search for free & pay WiFi Access Point's: http://www.jiwire.com/

Go here to browse T-Mobile WiFi plans, locations & fees: http://www.t-mobile.com/hotspot/

GOOD LUCK!

Oh one more thing... Would it be possible to just pay at a Starbucks cashier (like what we do in the Philippines) for the access or do I really have to sign up? Thanks and you have been very helpful. :)

Well, yes and no. If you mean can you walk into a Starbucks and pay cash right there to surf via WiFi, you can't.

BUT....you CAN fire up your laptop or WiFi enabled Clie and open your browser and you will then be directed to the sign-in webpage of T-Mobile, where you can then enter your ID & password -OR- sign-up right there with a credit card and choose your plan.

But again, you can not just walk in and pay the cashier and get on the net in Starbucks here in the States.

Personally, I would MUCH prefer the way you tell me it's done in the Philippines...as not everyone has or even wants to use their credit card to pay for this service.

Enjoy your time here. Where you said you are going (Yellowstone) is one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Enjoy America! :D

Thanks! I hope the weather will be much cooler than what we are getting in Fontana right now (100+- yikes!).

Our rates are cheaper back home too with around $1.79 per hour for pre-paid access.

I guess I will try to sign in using my cousin's credit card and pay him cash. :) I do not carry a credit card.
