Hello everybody,

First of all I'll introduce myself here. This is my first post so far, and also, 1 month ago I just bought my first PDA gadget (TH55/E2, good to start with I guess :D ) but I've got quite a deep experience with computers for almost a couple of decades.

Secondly, I'd like to thank you all here because this site is truly helpful - I ignored almost everything about PalmOS and this place helped me to get up to date. It's indeed the reason why I bought a Palm device instead a PPC... Sony should pay royalties to Cliésource for sure...

And third, I'd like to contribute briefly explaining how did I get to chat on the MSN-Messenger network... without using Messenger. I'm pretty sure there should be any other post around explaining this but I hope this post helps users here to track this issue down faster.

So well, to be able to chat on the msn network, using the list of buddies we all already got in the list, without using any MSN-messenger client, we need a Jabber client. Jabber network provides gateways, we can use to communicate with MSN Network people - and they won't even know we're chatting writting on a PDA.

In order to do this, we need to register a new account on the Jabber network using any pc-mac jabber client (Exodus for Win machines worked fine for me). Just login with your prefered user name and password and you're done. After that, we need to subscribe to a jabber network server's MSN gateway, as it's a service not all servers provide. You can do all this with Exodus, it's pretty self explanatory playing around with it.

After this, the Palm-side client I choosed was Chat opus.

http://www.chatopus.com

Among other wonders, it uses the whole screen of the TH55, and also it runs in the background, allowing to use the clié and warning of new incomming messages.

Just install, login with your jabber account login, and there you go, automatically all the MSN contacts will show up, allowing you to chat.

Hope this message helps anyone...

And a doubt I had about other subjects, is:

1. There's any japanese input method for the TH55? I tried many, also hacks, and the only "usable" tool I could find so far is the PAdict with highres fonts, which is just great. But I can't take notes in japanese or type japanese on the CO... any help on this?

Cheers from Spain!

Verichat does the same thing that your method does :) . But it's not for free. When my verichat trial ends, I'll try this.

Well... I'm sure any jabber client will work fine. Chatopus does the job just fine, but I'll try verizon chat as well - thanks.

As for the chinese imput, I guess you use Decuma chinese version right? or grafitty 2 chinese v.?

I'm afraid I ignore if there's any free jabber client for PalmOS, as I'm new using this OS. Anyone else could shed some light on this?

Chatapus appears to be free? I am not sure what happens if you don't register --- By the way when setting up your msn make sure you find a server that is in your country that has an MSN gateway.

well it says you have a 30 day trial period, so as soon as that's over I'll let you know what happens.
what's wrong with servers in different countries ? I live in mexico, but I'm registered to one in germany I think, and it works just fine

If it works, it works I suppose --- I was having terrible lag with servers that were not in the US... ayu61200 is right ... That is what is good about the internet.

Oh, and before I forget --- Has anyone played with Yabber? www.yabber.org it is much prettier than Exodus ... Just in case someone was looking for an option. And on Linux I am using Gabber!
