View Full Version : What hacks do you use in your TH55?

I just found out, thanks to kp*, that TealMaster works for OS5 as hack manager similar to Hack Master and X-Master for OS4.  So I installed my OS4 favorite hack, EasyLaunch, and it works (partially) :D.

I'm able to use the hard button hold to launch other task.  So far I use the Button #2 (EL's Address) hold for Toggle BackLight and the Button #3 (EL's ToDo) hold for Turn off & Lock.

Please post if you have successfully tried other hacks.

BTW, the Button #4 (Data Assistance) can be mapped with EL too. It is the MemoPad button in EL.

There is a problem with EL, however. I can't map any apps to any of the hard buttons or stylus strokes due to the app dropdown list seems to be disabled in OS5. So I may stick with TealLaunch if I want to launch app with hard button hold.

Now I see how you managed to acquire such a high post count :p

Here's a tip though, you can edit your own posts. If no one has replied, it won't show that annoying "edited by blah blah on such a such date" bit.

Back to hacks. I thought we're supposed to be abandoning those for DA's? Dan, let the past die. Just let it die. Besides, all the cool kids are doing it...

Post counts are overrated. A person should be judged by what he says, not how often he says it :)

As for hacks, I'd be interested in your references for "abandoning" them. I'm guessing it's official Palmsource documentation, in which case, I'm interested in others' thoughts on the matter.

My own experience with OS5 (short weeks though it has been at this point) is that I use one actual "hack" that lives in Yet-Another-Hack-Manager (my vastly-improved G700 keyboard driver), while I have many little daemon-style apps that do one thing or another that would have been called a hack in OS4 (TheGoGo, Fonts4OS5, GraffitiAnywhere, TealLock, HiLauncher, and KeepWide, to name the most used). These each usually have an option to "auto-activate after reset", which amounts to lots of dialog popups after a reset, instead of simply reactivating my hacks in one fell swoop using YAHM's query. I find the whole process somewhat annoying.

Don't care about post counts actually. I've just been here awhile. Mine is nothing compares to Tixx's.

I was just a little excited about my favorite hack partially works in OS5.

There are OS4 hacks that I like and I'm glad that the developers have converted them to non-hack utility app in OS5. For example, McPhling, ClockPop, DAlauncher, Mi: D, ZL QuickLaunch.

I'm hoping there are equivalent to NoLinesHack for OS5 and the EasyLaunch developer will update this great hack to OS5.

Thanks Igor. So YAHM is OS5 compatible.

BTW, I put the NoDot in TealMaster, enabled it, but dots (lines) are still in there. :(

NoDot is a native ARM hack for YAHM. You can't use it with TealMaster. You can use both of them: TM for old hacks and YAHM for new hacks.

This is interesting. I tot we can't use hacks on OS 5 devices anymore. This is good news. Thanks everyone! :)

I was actually joking with the guy. Everyone else seemed to have gotten that. I didn't offend him to my knowledge. And if I did, I am of course sorry. Now Jay, I still love you, but I'm not "in love" with you. Now leave me alone as I cry myself to sleep...

I just discovered that one of my all-time most necessary hacks, SafeHack, still works. This is a very simple one which resets your private records to "hidden" when you turn your Clie off. Amazingly, most of the major security apps don't offer an option to do this. Thanks DanT for bringing up this topic and giving me the courage to try it. Seems like it works flawlessly so far (using TealMaster). :)

No Dot doesn't work for me. Where do you enable it?

DanT

No problemo kp*, ;)

krypticide,
You need to install Igor's YAHM and enable it from there. Like he said, ARM Hacks (OS5) need to be enabled by YAHM while m68k (OS4) Hacks need to be enabled by TealMaster. NoDot is ARM Hack.

I don't know what happened with SafeHack, when I went to test it I couldn't find it on any of the usual sites. I eventually Googled it and found it on PalmBoulevard. This is version 1.0, I don't remember if there was ever a newer version. http://www.palmblvd.com/software/pc/SafeHack-1999-02-21-palm-pc.html
