I've been trying out ZLauncher and I want to know how in the world I can convert a jpg I have to the background format for ZLauncher. Since I'm using the older 760C I don't have the jpeg conversion utilities that are mentioned in the documentation.
Any help would be appreicated.

You do need the JPEG utility files that come with later model Clies. Once those are installed, you just install your .jpg files to MS in the ZLauncher/backimage directory, using MSImport. From there, it is just a matter of selecting the .jpg in Theme Manager and it is automatically converted to a backimage.
I don't really know where you can get the JPEG utility files (there are two). I do know they work on older Clies.

Have you tried converting your .jpg (JPEG)to a .bmp(Bitmap). Resize your picture to you CLIE screen size. Then save to memorystick(MS Import, Memorycard Reader/Writer, etc.

I have a 615 and I have the same problem, I don't have those libraries in my Clie. The libraries are JPEG_Library.prc and JPEG_Util_Library.prc and I know I can get them from a friend's 665, but I'm not sure if that's going to work. And converting the images to bmps make them bigger.

Installing those files on my N610 worked fine. I can now use .jpgs for ZLauncher backimages. Saves a huge amount of storage space.

So, I only have to copy those files to my 615, are you guys sure that it's safe, because I red somewhere that itīs not that easy, but if Sebring did it, I guess I'm gonna take the risk.

I will get them from a friends' 665, by beaming them. I've looked for them everywhere else in the net, but they do not appear, so try to get a 665.

I'd be interested in the files myself. Wish I knew someone with a 665.
What!

OK, I copied the files to my Clie, but nothing happens. I still can't look at jpgs with Zlauncher. I'm not sure if this is so, because I copied the files to RAM, so I'm not sure if I have to copy them to the flash memory. Maybe sebring can help us here.
I try to send you guys the files.

They work fine in RAM on my N610. Use filez and check the attributes for the files you copied, and the size. I also installed the NR version of Picture Gear, but I don't really think that makes any difference.
JPEG Library 64k
JPEG Util Library 29k
Attributes = Resource DB
Make sure Copy Protect is not checked.
Also for ZLauncher Theme Manager to see the jpgs, they have to be in the ZLauncher/Backimage directory. Or, you can preview them from any directory using ZLauncher's tap and hold menu by selecting Preview, for the jpg file you want to see.

Ok, I checked them using filez, and I unchechecked the read only attibute, and only left the Resource DB, the size is correct too, but when I try to preview a jpg, I get "7905 Error".
I'll try to install PG version of the 665 and we'll see what happens.
I'll try to send the files for you guys later.

I can't install PG version of the 665, and I still get the same error. I'll upload the files here, so you guys can try the same.

You may be trying to use an unsupported jpg file. Not all jpg files seem to work. I've had to open and re-save some of the jpg files I got from the background section of this site, using Splash Photo. Yes I did save them as jpg using Splash Photo not the much larger Splash Photo bmp image. Try a few different jpg files.

Ok, this is getting weird, you guys got it right and I didnīt. Maybe it's the fact that you used the files with your 760 and 610, while I'm trying on my 615, but I'm not sure.
Please, someone with a 615, try to do it. I'm sure I'm missing something here.

Glad you got it working, specially after your generosity in sharing the files. If you have SplashPhoto, it's desktop application is perfect for converting images to .jpg that are the exact size for backimages. It also transfers the jpg to MS when you hotsync.
You can even convert some of those image files that didn't work to jpgs that do work, by opening them with SplashPhoto desktop and resaving them as .jpg.

Cool, Iīll try Splashphoto then. I use Acid Image, but I getting tired of it. Maybe it's time to try something new.
See ya.

I guess they're designed only for the Clie, because they're specific libraries.
Use another program to view jpgs like Acidimage.

I have the same problem with certain images. Some that I save in Photoshop work great, while others cause an error. Anyone figure out a reason for this? Or a program that saves them in a Clie-readable format every time? I checked all the attributes and they seem identical, but some work great and some cause errors. One thing you can do, is save as BMP, then set to be the background image, then find the .pdb in ram, copy it to stick, and delete the original BMP. Saves some space (1/3 on my Clie). JPEG is much better though.

About the jpgs issue, the same erro happened to me, it seems that certain jpgs just don't work with the libraries, so you'll have to use photoshop in all your jpgs in order to be able to view them, but still jpgs are far better that bmps.

JPG's are best. Make sure they are 16bit. 24 bit won't work.
In Photochop if you save as a BMP you can set to 16 bit,
do a save as, then open the BMP and save as a JPG...
What?
