- I was playing with a Tungsten T3 and I installed the Palm Desktop 4.1.4 that came with the T3 over my installed Sony Palm Destop (I think it's a 4.1.0).

- Once I was done playing with the T3, I unistalled the Desktop software and deleted the c:\Sony\* directory.

- I then did a fresh install of the Sony Palm Desktop. I now see three icons with an "E" in them (Notepad, Photos and Voice Memo) once I start the Palm Desktop (on the left hand side).

- Are these icons on all the Sony Palm Destops ? I don't seem to remember seeing them there, so I am wondering if my uninstall of the 4.1.4 Desktop was good ?

Reponses appreciated

No. These icons are remnants of the Palm version of the desktop (versus the Sony version of the Desktop). When I had this issue arrise, I found that the only way to remove them was do a complete uninstall of the Palm (or Sony) desktop, remove all entries in the registry relating to the Palm Desktop, and then do a fresh install of the Sony Desktop. All should be well at that point.

I found that a right click near the offending icons gives an option to hide them.

Also what registries did you delete ? I tried looking for the Palm Registry after unistall and couldn't find it. I found the Sony registry, but didn't know what entries to delete..

Thanks

sociableorg,

I also had similar problem under W2k, the extra buttons totally frose the Palm Desktop for Clie (ver 4.1.0). And even if you choose to hide them, they would reappear the next time you start the desktop? If you log in as admin, I gues then you don't see the extra buttons?

I suppose you don't have to unistall everything, if you are logged in as a user, just delete all the relating registries (sony and u.s. robotics). Then log in as admin, export the sony and u.s.robotics registries. Log in as a user again, and import those registries. That should do it.
