Dont Sandisk make the Sony Brand? Are they the same product aimed at different markets?
any thoughts, as im thinking of picking up a sandisk card as 30% cheaper - as long as there isnt a performance or reliability difference.
thanks

I believe that Sandisk makes the Sony ones too. Why spend more for Sony brand. I am currently using the Sandisk Duo Pro and intend to keep buying the Sandisk. Unlike the Sandisk SD card (problems in PalmOne units) the MS has no performance issues. Also now you can buy 256mb Sandisk MS at Costco for $69. I'm sure you can find little cheaper online.

I'm with Doboy. Buy Sony if you enjoy spending additional money for the name. Buy SanDisk if you want the same product for less money. I have an SD 256 memory stick pro and could not be better pleased. SD and Sony signed an agreement a couple of years ago to produce memory sticks. The only thing different about the Sony ms is the label.

Rumors say that the silver ones (both Sandisk and Sony) are actually made by Sony and rebadged. The newer turqois ones by Sandisk are actually made by Sandisk and might be different from the Sony ones under the hood. That's just a rumor and I can't confim.
I've been using the silver Sandisk 512mb and 256mb MS Pro for my NX80 and DSC-F717 and they've worked w/o problems.

CardInfo describes my turquoise Sandisk MS as:
Memory Stick PRO (256MB)
SONY
Memory Stick
Is that actually meaningful or does it describe any MS as SONY?

I actually use Lexar Media's MS. I haven't had any problems with it yet, and it's far cheaper than Sony's brand MS.

Says the same for my pink SanDisk 256MB MSPro.

This might fall into the obvious category but, are the turquoise ones made in Japan? The (pink) silver Sandisk says made in Japan.
If it's Japan, it might be safe to assume that the turquois ones are made by Sony as well.

My new black SD Ultra II 512mb MS Pro is made in China. It does offer 5 years warranty.

so the theory is probably right. The older (pink) silver ones are made by Sony and the newer turquoise ones are made by Sandisk.
