i just installed leftovers to see if i could identify any unecessary files. i have a ton of files with very short names, no larger than about 45k. leftovers says that they were all created by "Epip." does anyone know what these are for, and can i delete them without worrying about it? i'd really appreciate the help.

You can use SuperUtility version 6.000, I don't have the URL but you can try to find it at Palmgear. Made by Handmark i think...

You can use this link to check creator IDs.  I did not find one called 'Epip' and I'm wondering if the capitalization is different . . . ePiP ePip or something similar.  It does matter in the search....

Good luck!

You can also try InWatch (I think you can find at PalmGear) and run the Pre-clean function. I didn't have any problems after deleting the files and prefs it thought were orphaned. It will prompt you for each file/pref deletion. One caution, though. It doesn't seem to be able to associate apps you have on MS with their prefs.

Try Cleanup to do a search of your device, including MS, for any apps that use that Creator ID.

Thanks YellowRose.  You point out the site that I've been looking for.

Awhile back I decided to startover and reinstall all my apps so I can clean up those "orphaned files".  I did recovered about 600KB out of doing this.  The system seems to run faster and stable, but I still found one unknown creator ID "STRF".  creatorid site is able to identify it, which belongs to StreetFinder.  I guess since I put it in PiDirectII and disable it most of the time, SystTool or LeftOvers would not recognize it.  Since now I know what it is, SystTool is able to identify it correctly after I enable PiDirectII.

This is an interesting problem. It was my understanding that the OS was supposed to remove all the data for the apps when you delete them (including prefs, DBs and allocated feature mem chunks). This is done based on the creator ID. Are you using a launcher that just allowed you to remove the .prc?

I installed and removed a lot of apps either with default Palm OS Menu, App, Delete method or MegaLauncher way of deleting app. They both are supposed to remove everything related to the particular app. The fact is that sometimes orphaned files do get leftover. That is why there are apps like InWatch or Uninstall Hack/Manager that would insure a clean removal of those files. For my self, after learning this hard lesson, I get the habit of backing up my RAM to MS before installing a new app and record its creator IDs in QuickSheet. When it leaves orphaned files after I delete the app, I can identify what they are and remove them. So I don't need InWatch or Uninstall Hack.
