I am traveling to the US next week and want to buy a new pda... my palm m515 is very old... and i liked the ux-50 but saw that it was released about a year ago. is there any replacement comming? what would you recommend?
Thank you for your information
(sorry for my english)
Currently it is still the best pda on the market. It's the only Palm with both BT and WiFi. There are other options on the Pocket PC side but I'm assuming that's a no go. There is the European TH55 though, but not available in the US. The only areas any other pda can beat the UX on are screen size and battery life. Though, with the external battery, it's probably better than any other pda again. The screen size is a personal thing. I think it's fine and I wouldn't trade it in for anything. Sony is probably coming out with something a little closer to July. If you want to wait that's fine but the UX is getting cheaper. You can find it for about $500 or cheaper now. I can stress how useful this little machine is. I work on my papers, powerpoints, watch movies, listen to music, check my email, surf the web, keep appointments and contacts, read my bible, and play games. It's irreplaceable and well worth it if you can get it. Oh, the keyboard is the best keyboard you can buy, IF you like keyboards. They are faster than graffiti but that's still a personal preference. If you must have graffiti go with the TH or probably the Euro TH if you can.

You might want to wait, given that a replacement is likely. But prices on the UX are pretty good right now, so it's a tough call.
Make sure on your trip to the US that you don't get ripped off. Check the prices online and compare them to the store's price. You'll pay a slight premium for in-store sales, but not too much. If you're coming to NYC, make sure you go somewhere reputable like J&R (http://www.jandr.com"), since you won't get some refurb unit or, worse yet, empty box. :) Right now the price at J&R is $599, but in-store they might be able to give you a better price. There's another store in NYC that I'd recommend if I could only remember their name....datavis or something?
One thing to keep in mind is that returning the UX is going to be a problem if you buy it here. And there are known issues with the UX, such as the infamous "screen-whine" that may take some time to show up and would warrant a return. Check with the stores about their overseas return policy.

I have thew UX-40 and I don't quite agree with it having the best thumbboard. Best out of the clie's yes, but I find the Treo 180's better (haven't tried treo 600). It has better tactile feel, and allows one handed typing, which is impossible on the UX.

True, you may find the Treo's keyboard to be better, but you will not get the screen, on board memory, or speed and other functions you get with the UX. When you look online for prices, keep in mind you could end up getting a refurb just as easily as a store when you see the super chaep prices. Also, keep an eye on the shipping and tax cost too when you look online, many stores will look cheap until you come across the extra costs they incur. You can probably get it for between $550 and $600 here. Good luck.
