I just got a NX70. I was looking for memory sticks.

Is it correct that you can not put mpgs or mpg's on a stick unless it is a magic gate?

I went to CompUSA and they have no magic gate sticks.

I thought I remembered someone linking to their website saying that you can get a 128 meg stick for 49.00 after rebate.

Well I had to track down a place where they did sell magic gate sticks and spent 69.00 on a 64 meg. stick.

What a crock.

the standard stick packages say that this is not compatible with magic gate. Used for saving of mpgs. Something like, if you plan on saving mp3's you must get a magic gate stick.

Are you refering to mp3's or mpg movies? I know for sure you put mp3's on a standard memory stick. I do it all the time on my NX. If memory serves me right, Magic Gate MS's are only required if you record in ATRAC format.

Sometimes I just don't know what to think about CompUSA. :(

Yeah. Moving forward just copy your MP3's to the memory stick. Use MSImport and copy them to :/Palm/Programs/MSAudio and you should be fine.

thats upsetting that i wasted money on a magic gate stick.

I guess I can use it once I find out what exactly an Arcat thing is.
Any help?

Also I put the memory stick in and i hit msimport, and the thing comes up and says connected to pc. how do i get the file i want to move?

you can put anything but atrac on plain memory sticks, and atrac sucks.

so they push this format for uncopyable music to sell not only the music, but the special memory stick?

you got it. it was an attempt to make a standard to control the sharing of music files. It would appease the music industry (including sony itself) as far as the viability of selling digital music instead of it being pirated. Sony "mp3" players actually encode to ATRAC first. you have to have the magicgate stick to use these players. At least now they have come down in price to barely more than the regular sticks. They have practically disappreared altogether.

Sony has recently released players again that only play ATRAC3 format again. Sony keeps trying to push it's proprietary ATRAC3 format! The only reason that Sony had somewhat supported mp3 was that it found people weren't as stupid as they thought they were. People just didn't buy it! The best way to motivate Sony is through it's wallet, no matter how neat it's latest toy is!

Stores that sell ATRAC3 players do carry some.
