OK, I really have to know: why is this man trying to eat his NZ90? From the Sony Japanese CLIE site:

Or more to the point, what does this ad say? (for anyone who can read Japanese)

leave it here.... it's because he realizes that bluetooth sucks and the megapixel camera isn't worth it.

Maybe because of the price of the NZ, It's too high that you wont have enough money to buy yourself something to eat (or snack)

Perhaps there is more nutritional value to a NZ then, say a Big Mac!

He just read his credit card statement to see how much he paid for his NZ90 with BB warranty and a 128MB Memory Stick.

It's a ploy on the old saying "I'm so hungry I can eat a horse". The modern version is, "I'm so hungry I could eat a NZ90".

:D

It looks like there's a picture of a hot dog on his Clie

In the middle it says something along the lines of: "broadband anywhere you are, bluetooth"

On second check, my friend thinks it might be more along the lines of "broadband on the go".

"Edible broadband on the go."
"Eat this clie and you will have to go"

its to show that the image quality of the hot dog is sooo damn clear that you could actually mistake it for a real hotdog, pour ketchup and relish on it, then scarf it down.

It says "Broadband break - anywhere".

Pun on lunch break? I'm confused. There's no wireless broadband in Japan - not unless you consider 128kbit to be broadband :p

Ahh... ok. The word "demo" was giving my friend trouble. He was saying it can mean "where, and yet, now" or something like that. Interesting Pun... But I mean, we are talking about Japanese culture here. I WISH I would grasp half of the stuff. :D

Hmmm... it is starting to make sense. Apparently it is a play on "lunch break" or having your lunch "on the go." (thanks OcellNuri and Pseudo Nim)

I couldn't really make out the hot dog in the pic at first... neat touch! So another way to look at it is what yOyOYoo said: the screen is so good, photos will look good enough to eat (though that is not what the text is implying). Not to mention all the other things folks have said...

But Pseudo Nim, what's this about no WiFi in Japan? If so, why market a WiFi card in Japan? (that pic does have the WiFi card)

Well, I'll correct myself -- Japan *does* have WiFi spots, but they are rather spotty (after all, with 300ft max coverage, there would have to be a LOT of them to cover even the major metropolitan areas, hehe). So the main usage for the communication slot would be the cell modems which are abundant in Japan - $50/month gets you a wireless 32 or 64kbit connection, and if you pay more, you can have as much as 384kbit over the NTT 3G network. But that isn't really broadband. So I'm curious as to why they market it as a broadband device. And anyway, what WOULD you do with broadband on it? :)

U think that guy eats it in the end?

$800 for a meal is pretty steep. Even more so when it's not food... or gold or something :/

Wonder if a Clie is worth more than its weight in gold? :)

I'm sure you can search the net for what 11oz of pure gold is going for these days...

In fact.. http://www.e-gold.com/currentexchange.html

Hm.. apparently it's not, yet. :( A Clie is what, about 10 Troy ounces (300g)... a Troy ounce is $390, so I guess it's not there yet. Only CPUs are worth more than their weight in gold, apparently. :) Give Sony a few months.... :)
