View Full Version : The NZ90 Stylus....

The one thing I really don't like about the NZ90 is the stylus. It just isn't very secure.
If you don't have a case (there just aren't many out there yet) you are running the risk of losing the stylus. I already lost mine once but fortunately found it. Apparently it got picked off taking it out of (or putting it into) a pocket.
The sony website shows a stylus three pack and claims that it works with the NZ90. Best I can tell, the NZ90 looks like it uses a different stylus than the others.
Can anyone comment on this? I think I really need to buy the stylus extras so that if I lose one, I'm not out of business.

Yes, the NZ90 uses a completely different stylus from the other Sony models so, if you want a replacement, you'll need to be sure the one you get is specifically for the NZ90.
Got to admit, the new stylus holder is one of my least favorite parts of the device.

three things I dont liek, and that is it:
1) Stylus
2) Cradle but getting use to it so not too bad anymore
3) The way the power button is, like old style on NX/NR
Other then that the NZ90 rocks
yeah I don't like the new power button but I can understand it. It makes it a lot harder to turn on in ur pocket if u forget to put the hold button on. It was ok before when it wasn't on the side of the clie but now that it is I think it is needed in this format.

yep, stylus isn't the best design... but I am sure they did the best they could w/ the size limitations.... they could of made the NZ bigger than it already is to hold the stylus but that would be bad... so as it is, the stylus hangs on the side!
i plan on picking up some extra stylusess (styli?, stylus's?,stylusssesss?...)

I just lost my stylus. I don't like the stylus holder either, but do like the stylus. I emailed Sony Support, and this was the reply: It would appear that each CLIE model (NX and NZ) have their own models of Stylii that are being sold. The NX series is showing the PEGA-ST60 and the NZ series is showing the PEGA-ST61. Please verify that you are selcting the proper Stylus accessory.

The shaft of the NX stylus and the NZ stylus are the same. The top and bottom are different though

the stylus is horrible,
and yet, somtimes i really like having a stylus always there. If it was not attached to the screen like it is, where could they put it? the rest of the NZ is chock full and you just can't have a better stylus holder on a screen that thin.
Comments??

I kind of like the NZ stylus positioning, it is easyer to grabb than on the NR and holds better on the unit. Better material would have helped, but it seems that all standard stylus are not as good as the aftermarket ones.

Does anyone know WHERE you can buy extra styli? I didn't see them on the sony website and CompUSA doesn't have them either.

I agree, bad placement, but where else would the put it? I haven't had any issues yet, I just hope I don't have to find out how hard it is to find replacement stylii.
I think Sony is the only place to get them right now.

To everyone who wants stylus -- see my comment above. I talked with Sony Support, and they do have it on the Sony Site. The info is about 7 posts above this one.

All the CLIE styli I have used stink. For some reason Sony has designed them to be a lot smaller than the Palm units. I don't know why this is so. If you look at the Palm styli, they're thicker and usually longer. REally dismal that my $800 Clie has a crappy plastic stylus.

If you look at the picture on
http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INT...vcAAADzFhUE_KQN
You will note that the stylus does not have the rounded top in the same way as the original one that comes with the NZ90. That means that it will stick out on the right hand side of the screen (in PDA grafitti mode) and probably be more likely to be picked off accidentally.
So, I am not sure this is the same one as the original one from Sony.
I would kind of like to avoid paying $20 ($19.79 with S/H) to find this out. Anyone have a comment or have bought one of these already?

well i just ordered this floating point stylus
http://www.landware.com/floatingpoint/index.asp
i know it wont fit in the slot of the nz90, but i will just carry this on the side like i have with my cross, i think majority of scratches are caused by the hard point of the stylus
FYI,
I just came back from CC, I was looking at the PEGA-ST61.
On the back of the box it has directions for the NZ90 owners to remove both ends of the Stylus and put on the supplied parts.

Does that mean that they supply the tip and the end in the box?

This is the link of the Sony website that sell the styli compatable for the NZ90. I should be receiving my order by 3-3-03. They do not look anything like the one that came with the NZ90, they look more like the ones that were designed for the NR or NX, which would be a great improvement ofer the one that originally came included with the NZ ! When they come in I'll report back.;)
It includes interchangeable ends, that will make the Stylus Exactly as the NZ90's Stylus.

put a couple of toothpicks in your wallet, you'll never be without a stylus.

The small stylus allows Sony to minimize the size of the silo. Wait until you see the new TG50 in person -- you'll be blown away with its thickness (or thinness ;)).
Stock styli are never all that good, anyway.
