OK...have any of you guys broken your USB cover on your UX yet? It's soo delicate. I almost ripped it off on the first day I had my UX50 because it wouldn't budge.

Yeah, mine came off the other day but it easily popped back in the hole (by the lanyard ring) where it came from.
You can remove it completely if you want.

I'm tryin' brutha, I'm tryin'! ;)
BUT...I use dial-up at home for now. So a WiFi hotsync isn't in the cards for now. Is it even possible to perform a WiFi HotSync without using a WiFi router and just dial-up?

You can setup an Adhoc connection to your PC. Just grab yourself a cheap WiFi card and pop it into your machine, or a USB connected WiFi solution would work as well.
Tons of threads about this. You can get on the Net as well because your PC becomes the router. You'll also enjoy all the other benefits of a WiFi connection as well. (Spycam, SMBmate, streaming audio)

My laptop has built-in WiFi. I tried for HOURS to connect. Never got it working. :(

My Dell laptop has built-in WiFi as well, but I couldn't setup an Adhoc connection with it either. I've got a couple PCMCIA cards and I was able to set it up using those. Sucks not to be able to use the built-in MiniPCI card, but you can do it with a PCMCIA solution.
(The built-in wifi card didn't even have an option for an adhoc connection)

Do ya think maybe buying a WiFi dongle would solve the problem? I really think the UX needs to receive some sort of broadcasted signal, like that a Wireless router would put out and then it's happy! ;)

Yes, you can purchase whatever solution you want. USB, PCMCIA whatever.

Yes, exactly. That's what an Adhoc connection is. You're just using whatever WiFi device you choose as the solution. As previously noted, your laptop becomes the wireless router. You connect through & to it. All WiFi devices send & receive a "signal".
