I have a sony desktop that has the Giga Pocket Video Recorder. With the software included in the new clie, I am able to not only make the Giga Pocket Video Recorder automatically record the programs I want, but it also automatically saves it to the Sony Movie format where all I have to do is put my memory stick in for a minute, get the program, and watch it on my clie. I can get an hour of "standard" video on one Memory Stick and view shows in full screen and in stereo. Can't wait for memory stick pro!

That sounds freaking awesome, bro. You need to make a new thread with something like 'TiVo' in the title -- not many people here know about GigaPocket.

I first used this with my NX60 and it was so cool! Looks even better on the 90. Not only can you tape movies and tv programs and trasfter them to the clie via giga pocket, but home movies or anything else on VHS tape as well.

Sony integrates their products so well, that I buy nothing else but Sony.

Ok... so where's the new thread? :) I want to learn more about this.

mape245 - do you know if this giga pocket software is only included on a sony-purchased PC? I did some google-ing and could find nothing on it other than references to the 'giga pocket' software package on a sony desktop PC.

Or does anybody else know if there's software out there to take video and save it into MS format like this giga pocket does?

I would definitely be interested in that...

its a sony proprietary program. U must buy a sony vaio computer if u want it. I would assume its the only program that does this considering both the clie and vaio are from sony. You can still copy like a tivo to ur comptuer but its not immediatly compatible w. the clie.

Ok, people asked me to start a thread on this, so hear it goes. Yes, your Clie can be used as a Tivo sort of thing..just have a lot of memory sticks. You can put one hour of pretty good quality video on one memory stick. You need a desktop Vaioe computer. Those come with a program called "Giga Pocket" which is a PC VCR. It has an internet program guide where you can automatically make your pc record your favorite program once, every day, or every week. It's really cool because you can then hook up your Sony to your TV set and watch your program..sort of like Tivo. But it gets even better. The Giga Pocket Clie plug-in comes with the NZ90. Launch that and check in "convert while recording." This way, every program that your Vaioe records will automatically transfer to the NZ90 format. That way, all you have to do is put your memory stick in, get your program, and you're on your way. It really is neat. The only problem is that I still can't figure out how to title movies,"such as "Boston Public," or "Friends" and have it recognized by the Clie player. Instead, everything has to be titled Movq00003 or something like that. It really is annoying. Anyway, I can't complain. When I had my pocket pc, I had to convert every giga pocket recorded program into an mpeg program (only took about a minute) but THEN convert the mpeg into a Windows Media Player formatted program..took forever.

I have the NZ, and I also have a new Sony Viao laptop, but when I tried to install Giga Pocket, it wouldn't let me. I don't remember exactly what it said, but I think it told me that my computer is not compatible with Giga Pocket.

I have a Vaio laptop also (SRX87). I has the Gigapocket player, but not the GP recorder. I think you need a desktop or an expensive Vaio laptop that has a special video card (similar to an ATI all in wonder that can take video input: cable, video, firewire, etc...) in order to record the video in the first place. Otherwise, I would think Gigapocket to be pointless. I hear this is quite popular in Japan and there is even some wireless streaming of the video recorded available. Very cool, indeed. Anywho- when I tried to install the add on to my NX I got the same error message because I only have the player, not the recorder.

Mape245,
You can use NX movie aid to have the Clie recognize any filename you choose to name your mqv files. The problem I had is that Green Dragon, who makes it, uses a file: "todo" in its' program that messed up my ability to hotsync my todo list. They may have fixed this problem already. Do a search on the forums, we had a group think discussion going on several weeks ago that turned up this problem with everyone having errors with their to do syncing. It is a really nifty program, however. If they have fixed it, it is your answer and is about 5 bucks.

I have a viao notebook with gigapocket built in. It's awsome. I got a Gigapocket pc card for a desk top, not a sony. The computer recconizes it but it won't launch the program. does anyone know how to make it work in a non sony cpu?
