Hi ! I'd like to remove some built-in apps on my SJ-30. Since Jacksprat and Jackflash are not compatible with SJ-30, is there an alternative? Thanks!

You can use either the built in delete function (tap the tab in any of the OS screens that has the time on it and tap the delete option....that'll bring you to a listing of all your apps, then delete the one you want) or you can get an uninstall hack that'll make sure you take out all traces of the program, like settings, etc. when you uninstall it.

It's not that they are not compatible with the SJ-30, but the SJ-30 at least the US models, do not have flash rom. Which means that internal memory of the SJ-30 can only be read from. What is written to is was written at the factory and cannot be removed.

So if you want to remove those apps to free space, don't bother because 1)Even if you could free the space you wouldn't be able to use it 2) You can't remove the apps.

If you want to remove the apps cuz u don't like them hanging around, I suggest using ROMHide on the Clie CD to hide them from the Launcher.

I was able to remove the Clie Demo on my SJ30. Would it be something that supposed to be in ROM? Haven't tried removing anything else thinking I might want to use them later...

Clie Demo and Grafitti are the only two programs that come with the SJ-30 that you can remove. The rest are in ROM unfortunetly. I'd love to get rid of the graphic viewers and the movie player...I'm never going to use those.

With the EUROPEAN! SJ30 (you can choose between English/German/French language) you have FlashROM. Therefore you can use Jacksprat to a) remove languages and b) built in apps. You can free a total of 5 Megs and use that space with Jackflash!
That gives me a total of 20Megs (ROM &RAM)!

Sadly, that does not seem to be true for all machines.. I have a European SJ-30, and JackFlashLite tells me it has no Flash.

you might be right, but on the other hand, it might just be a difference between the test version and the full version of JackFlash?! To be sure, ask Brayder.
BTW on my Clie on the sticker of the back it's written PEG-SJ30/E (E=european, I suppose)

without installing JackFlash, is there a way to know for sure that ur SJ30 got Flash-Rom or not? some kinda model or serial no.?

Maybe, but the easiest way is to install JackFlash. If it says it can't work with your ROM, then it ain't flash.

Make sure you use the latest version of JackFlash (Light or not) - 2.7b1 I think!!

With 2.6 mine reported no flash available. And all the other tools reported a 4Mb+ ROM.

Once I got the 2.7b1 version of JackFlash the Flash was resized and I now have over 3Mb of free space.

Must try JackSprat to see about removing some of the languages.....

I used JackFlashLite 2.7b1, that supposedly added SJ30 information, so..
Oh well. I still have 11MB or so of free RAM..

I installed JackFlash Lite-said works on some SJ30's. I installed it and said doesn't work on this device. I gather it is a dead deal? Nothing can be done deleting the other crap on my Clie? Thanks.

You are correct popeye, you SJ-30 is like most of them out there, i.e. it doesn't have flash rom. A bummer.

Hi.
If you have no flash - the way to hide unused application is " ROM hide ". U can found that useful little application on your CD. Some launchers (for example Laincher III) can hide applications (or categories) too.
2st one i have to say - changing flash it's very dangerous, don't do it! Use memorystick instead. It's better the decision.
