I've noticed a huge difference after draining my battery completely and charging it overnight. It doesn't make the battery life great, but at least decent.

Thats good to hear :) Now maybe this info will get out some more and rumors that battery life UTTERLY sucks will start to dissipate. Now battery life only minimally sucks :p

I just did a full cycle yesterday (got down to 13% remaining) and charged overnight.
My previous battery life for the past week has always been between 6-7 hours remaining on a full charge.
This morning much to my chagrin, the battery life showed a whopping 13 HOURS REMAINING!!!
Virtually double the life from a single complete drain/charge cycle, I'd say well worth the effort and something that Sony might consider putting in their user manual.
IT DOES WORK INDEED!

Augh. There has to be something wrong. You sure you didn't change any settings like light?
After deep sycling 3 times, light at 50% and IR off and bluetooth on, it says slightly more than 5 hours. With backlight on lowest setting, I have 7:27 hours, and with BT off I have 7:22
Then again maybe Ditch is pulling my leg since he's unregistered. :) Anyways, going to exchange later today.

so is it best to continually drain our batteries fully before recharging? -Should we do this often??? or just when we initially get our NZ's??? curious what everyone knows about this?
If mape and Ditch have the same IP, this topic should be deleted.

I have never seen 13 hours...I saw about 6 hours with backlight close to alittle above min

Don't have the same IP as Ditch and I'm really telling the truth. Yesterday, I was able to use my clie all day without recharging..took about 10 pictures with flash, listened to music for an hour, watched an hour video, etc....before, I usually had to charge twice a day. So, to quote an earlier poster...battery life now is sort of bad rather than completely sucks.

The rumours about the battery life are unfortunately going to proliferate as long as thread after thread is started by one person claiming that it sucks. We have a bunch of multiples.
Hopefully this topic will stay in circulation longer than the other "battery life" threads.

I did the "discharge/charge upovernight" thing and it seems to have improved battery life quite a bit. I decided to test it with the camera app, took about 40 pics all with flash and battery only went down to 67%.
I think these InfoLithium batteries just need some sort of break-in period.

I'm not so sure it is the batteries that need a break in period but that the little fuel gauge circuit needs to get calibrated as to how much it holds etc... Either way, until you run it all the way down - it probably doesn't know. Then when you top if up with a lot of amp-hours, more than it thought it could take, then it is calibrated.
Whether the battery is actually all the way out before calibration or if the pda just thinks it is and makes decisions accordingly - its all the same.
Li-ion batteries are typically 'aged' at the factory - they are half charged and let to sit for a while. This aligns the plates with more consistent and equal spacing - or so I am told. So, if the aging was not done long enough, then a full discharge and recharge could be doing the same thing.
My money is probably on the fuel gauge uController getting properly calibrated.

The display - when you first turn it on after a charge will spike up at 13 hours, because mine does it too.
Leave the display up for more than 10 seconds. You'll see it lower all by itself.
