Well after 4-weeks of owning the TH55 (and my first ever PDA)...i have decided to sell it!
There's nothing wrong with the pda...but i simply got totally bored of it after 2 weeks! there's absolutely nothing i could use it for...apart from look at how nice it is.
Bye bye Clie!

Like many of my friends who doesn't know how to use a pda. They will just simply give up after sometime.

Never mind! You can spend the money on cigarettes.

That's really what it boils down to, People who are disorganized buy PDAs, or buy it for the cool factor. Then never TRY, not really, to use it. And there are some people who have no need. Use outlook a lot and need contact info with you all the time as well as to dos and a calendar and maybe take documents with you? You need a PDA.
Able to remember all of your phonenumbers? You don't need a PDA. that simple.

we do have cellphones in europe you know! and they can store phone numbers in them and addresses and contacts and appointments and they make calls too!
what it comes down to is that this has been a highly expensive corporate toy....but at the end of the day this is just what it is a toy!
I am often looked upon as a gadget collector, however I use my TH-55 to the full: it is my diary, contacts book, tasks list, MP3 player, mini laptop for typing up my novels, library, email pickup point, camera. It took me a few PDA's before I started using them to the full.
Cool! i'm not here to criticize the TH55 or its users...hell its a great gadget and works perfectly ...but...its just not for me!
and by the way cliesource has been an amazing forum/website! thank you for all your support and guidance over the past few months!!!
ps. anyone wanna buy a (nearly) new European model TH55???

Zoe, I totally disagree with you, living in Europe as well, I have a BT phone with Email, appointments and even email, but this does not earn my day.
I am a PDA addict true, but after my NX73 broke for the third time, I had to run to buy a new TH55, which is coming tomorrow...
Unless you do not have a Symbian phone or a Treo how can u say u do the some things on a phone you do on PDA.
It is evident you don't need a PDA, so I woinder why u bought such an expensive toy.
As for me I simply stopped using the notebook since when the last Clies have got so powerful, Clie simply make my day when I am not in front of a computer.

yup you're right polimedia...the first mistake i did was not think and i did go out and buy a very expensive "toy". however since i spend all my day in front of a screen at work i guess i just didnt want to do the same at home.
i honestly do not know why i got bored of it so fast. the most useful thing i found in it was keeping track of birthdays (but hardly worth the money only for that)...as for camera, mp3, games... i though it would be useful for this kinda stuff but its not. i have a ps2, a dig cam and an mp3 player. which i did not stop using as they all have better capabilities than the TH55...or any PDA on the current market.
maybe in the future i will change my mind but right now i'd prefer to sell it

Zoe, I must confess that I am also pretty much in love with my Clies and that after a while there is a bore effect and a "I want to have the new toy wish" but basically there is the need of it.
I dot use much the multimedia options even if I am glad to have them but communications with Clies are superb.
Unfortunately I need to keep contacts also when I am away from the office and being able to send complex emails, see documents and access internet really makes a difference.
Don't know about the new phones-pdas, but I think it is a similar concept.
I think even with notebooks there are similar problems as with PDAs lots of people often ask me which notebook they should buy and the first thing I ask is: do you need to use it on the move? They often say no, then of course I try to discourage the purchase, but they think notebooks are more chic than desktops!

i have a ps2...
PS2 is a video game right? Sounds like you do want to do the same at home - maybe just on a bigger screen?
Have you looked at the apps on palmgear? My most-used apps aren't even the ones that came bundled with it.

Absolutely nothing, it's a little bit funny that u consider only the Clie for games, I do not wonder you got bored, playing games at home on a pda while you can use a playstation must not be a lot of fun... at least for me. BTW we never use the playstation, so everything is very subjective ;)

Oh I didn't mean for games. I meant for something "useful" to you. Unless that means games to you in which case I don't know what's "wrong".
I don't play electronic games or do mp3s but the nice thing about PDAs are that they're really nice platforms for all sorts of portable applications. You might try browsing the other categories and seeing if something catches your eye. Maybe it won't. That's OK too.

Why are you talking him out of it!? If he wants to sell his highly coveted bluetooth enabled TH55 to someone who wants one, let him. Talk him into a cheaper handheld if you must, but don't spoil his chance to sell his PDA to someone who will use it. PDA's have feelings too and if they don't feel wanted, they commit suicide!

I have been a PDA addict for several years. I like using my PDA in my spare moments during the day when i am forever waiting in line or at a doctor's office, etc (you get the picture) to either read one of the many ebooks that I have stored or a technical paper that has to do with my job or catching up on the news with foxnews, NBCNews, etc. I can browse the weather, financial reports, stocks, etc. I don't even read a paper anymore. I just make it a habit to download to Avantgo or MobiPocket daily and gaet all of the news. Besides keeping up with my many addresses, ToDo's, information memos, etc., a big functionality is carrying all of this information plus other tidbits of information like
bib le and bible programs, postal zipcodes, dictionaries, theosaurus, etc. with me.

Unregistered-I wish you would register-you sound like my kind of person. I could not agree with you more. No amount ot persuasion will persuade him to keep it. Let him sell it to someone who will truly use it to the best of the TH-55 abilities.

When you don't try so hard to use your PDA, only then can you start taking advantage of it's usefulness... When I first got mine, I was just playing games, MP3s, and configuring the hell out of it, and got bored real fast and thought...
Yeah, I have my access to my contacts but I have that on my phone too... what's the point... I have a access to a computer most of the time... to me, PDAs aren't suppose to replace other gadgets, they are suppose to be a "sidekick", equal to a wallet that you always carry... I don't always carry my phone, mp3 player, computer, etc around...
So yeah I am not obsessed with my PDA like the few weeks when, but I am starting to find I am traveling much lighter these days, my pockets and backpack less cluttered. Hell i don't even carry a back pack these days. And the concept of going paperless is Awesome! (thanks to the Freenotes and the Camera. I just take a pic of something for reference and toss it away.
I just wanted to say this cuz I understand getting bored (not trying to talk you out of it either).

Thats funny, with the TH clie's, I've spent LESS time at the computer. I download my emails and respond to them throughout the day, surf the net if i need to look upsomething quickly and so much more. Its hard for me to imagine what life would be like being without a PDA.

I wouldn't call the TH55 a good first timer's machine.
It seems like something someone would specifically want.

Why donīt you guys simply exchange your phone numbers and talk! Well, if there are a few guy who can live without a PDA - fine. But what the heck, are youīre still doing here then ????
Keep your TH-55 learn to use it with your WLAN DSL modem and Do something useful, useless, whatever with it (like all we do here ;-) ) - but please donīt tease other guys to convince yourself to keep it! At least not in this forum ;-)

I just exchanged by TH55 on day 30 at Circuit City, my prior one had a bum camera. Hopefully this one will work like it is suppose to. I have to wait another 3 hours until the charge is complete.

At least you have one. I'm currently waiting for a good deal. I want at least $40 off for brick and mortar. I'll do $50 off for online, but only with no tax and free shipping. I found one that has the th55 in stock, but I have to send them student verification. Just more of a hassle. I'm so impatient, I'll wait...

I am not ashamed to admit I am a heavy PDA user. But maybe not what you think. I have been using a Newton MessagePad 2100 for five years. While at work, I have written on nothing else, e.g. I am never seen with paper and pencil. It has been incredibly functional, trustworthy and rock solid reliable.
I just bought my first Palm device, the TH55 about a week-and-a-half ago. I am awed by how much the hardware had improved over such a short time. I am however way underwhelmed with improvements in the OS over Newton and the general functionality of the device. Sure, I can add pictures to my name cards. Toot, toot. It's all bells and whistles. I have up to 30 days to return the CLIE to the store where I bought it. I am dazzled by it. I may keep it. But I don't think the Newton will be getting dusty after all, as I had hoped when I bought the TH55.

A person who is not addicted to PDAs is a person who does not read voraciously. I haven't picked up a paper-and-ink book in two years. There are just too many e-books available.

I agree wholeheartedly!
ZOE:
Sorry to hear of your experience. So, just what kind of work do you do. If it is anything but manual labor, I just can't imagine the TH-55 not being useful.
Example: I am in media sales and production so I use it for just about anything imaginable:
basic graphic creation
music bed creation
still pics/photo editing
scheduling
documents/spreadsheets
database
tv schedule
watch movies and tv episodes
reading marketing and business books/novels
outlining ideas
voice recording/meetings
internet/email (somewhat where I can)
So, I really am curious as to what you do for a living.

BSSteely,
Wow! A newton 2100, that's hardcore! My first PDA experience was a Newton 130 at a young age. And I was an instant PDA lover at the mere sight of it. It took me some years to finally acquire my first PDA, but I credit Apple for my interest. A TH55 is a huge jump in capabilities. And I mean capabilities... Look at all the available software (not just bundled). Try www.palmgear.com. There's something in there for everyone, though, I admit it's not a perfect selection. I believe the PDA market still has A LOT of growing up to do. I'm toying with the idea of developing software for Palm OS, but I still need to figure out what I feel is missing from the market. I hope you'll give Palm a good chance, even if it means downgrading to a more economical PDA.

That was then and my impatience grew. I just ordered my TH55 from NewEgg for $366. Close enough...

I always use my devices to the fullest potential - and then I start tweaking. It's amazing what you can do even with a simple Palm IIIC. I had that thing tweaked to hell and back. You name it, I did it. It could do everything but make coffee, and it was more powerful and had more features then my laptop!
Either you're a power user, or you stop using the thing after two weeks. Simple as that.

What I find interesting is that I don't use my PDA everyday, but close to everyday. The thing is, though, I've owned so many PDAs over the years:
Newton, Psion, IIIxe, VII, m505, NX70v, Zire71, UX40, and now I'm going to move up to the TH55. It's just funny how I am not a "power" user, but I find it a necessity to have the latest, greatest PalmOS device (and have never considered PPC...Blech!).
