whats the difference between them, wl100 is wireless b ?, wl110 is wireless g? . the range should still be the same right?
Thanks

The difference is that the 100 is really an intel (so it can be used in your laptop as well) and the 110 is completely sony. The distance should be about the same but somepeople claim that the 100 give a little more. Also, they are both 802.11b.

According to the specs on the Sony website, the WL100 has a longer range. You can always get a WL110 on Ebay for around $110. The WL100's (discontinued by Sony), are less frequenly there.

Also check your local BestBuy. Since BestBuy has stopped selling Clié handhelds in the store, there is little need to sell accessories for them in the stores either (besides the NX and NZ series are discontinued anyways). Thus you can get the accessories at Bargain Basement Blowout(tm) prices.

I got my WL110 at BestBuy for $80 plus tax (retail $150 plus tax). If you do decide to go this route, don't bother calling ahead to the store you want to visit because with all likelihood the sales associate will not know what you are asking about (this was my experience and I called 3 different stores in my area). Just go into the store. Do hurry though, I got the last one at the store I went to.

You will not be disappointed in going wireless with your Clié. I love being able to browse the 'Net and watch the NBA playoffs on my couch. Best of luck to you. :)

OK, here's a dumb question. I have a home network with a router and even have my Tivo hooked up to it. It ain't broke so I haven't fixed it... but I have been curious about adding a wireless network to use with both my HP laptop and Clie. Any thoughts? What about security?

Cat

PS Yes I know this isn't a home networking forum, I just thought I'd ask before spending any more money.

A lot of these seem to be showing up. My local Best Buy had 2 on the shelf last night. $29.95 apiece. They only have one now... :)

I'm in Houston, BTW

Would either of you who live where they are selling these on clearance be willing to buy it and ship it to me? I would of course pay for shipping costs, etc.

Just went back yesterday to the store. Appears the price went up $7 to $29.50, and there was one less left. There are actually 3 WL100's and 1 WL110 (my original count was wrong). I wonder if I should buy 'em and sell 'em here (for a small profit)?

Emily0724

Let me know....

It was previously mentioned on this thread that the WL100 was intel hardware, would it be possible to get an intel WiFi CF card and use it in my NX70 as the WL100 costs £120 GBP here in the UK!

meir87
09-18-2004, 03:43 PM
You would need to find specifically the Intel® PRO/Wireless 2011B LAN CF Card.

Emily0724
09-21-2004, 12:49 PM
Would you need drivers to make the Intel card work? If so, where could I get them. I found one for sale on e-bay, but it ends in 4 hours so a quick reply would be appreciated!

Also, any update on buying the clearance cards and selling them here?

meir87
09-21-2004, 02:03 PM
It would just need the same driver as the wl100.

I would buy one from you for $40 plus the actual cost of shipping (not to exceed $50 total because shipping really can't be that much!). Not a bad profit, eh? I would be happy to purchase on e-bay with buy-it-now...send me a link. Anyway you could pick them up before the weekend?

I think the reason they don't list it as compatible with the 73/80 is because you would have that thing sticking out the side of your clie.

I have the WL100 configured to work with my Linksys WAP54G wireless access point on my home network. The WL100 supports WEP 128bit security.
The WAP54G does support the newer WAP protocol, but the Clie doesn't.
It works great in my house.

Um slightly off-topic, but I'm buying a WL100 for US$50 incl postage from a user at this forum. I live in Australia as shown to the left. I have an issue in that it is proving nigh on impossible to transfer funds: My online banking transfer seems not to support American Banks, (NetBank for you Aussies) and I am unsure of any alternate methods of transfer. Could anyone who has experienced this before lend a hand? Thanks.
(I'm looking for a BSB number of my friend's American bank if that helps you out)
(If I can't get this working I may pitch in to buy one of the above cards)

Hey treffmeister - $50 is a good price! I just paid $89 for a WL110. You might look into doing a postal money order through the US Postal Service - I did some work for a company in Japan (I'm in the US), and they paid me this way. I don't know how hard it is to set up on your end, but I went into my local post office and picked up my payment on this end pretty easily - you might look into it or ask the person who's selling the card if they're open to that... the Web site is www.usps.gov (in the US, at least)
Hope this helps,
-Dan

Sorry that I don't have a profile yet, but when I get a chance...

Anyways, I just bought a NOS NX80V and also went through the same dilemma trying to find a Wi-Fi CF card. After checking out a post on this forum I went ahead and bought the Memory Stick Wireless LAN card (P/N HNT-MSW1) by Hagiwara. It works great, no problems with setup, etc. and the range is good too. It does stick out of the side and I have to remove it before putting the Clie away, but I highly doubt that you guys leave in your CF cards all the time so it should not be a problem. I intially would rather have had one of the Sony CF cards but am happy with the one from Hagiwara. It's also a lot smaller and easier to pack with the rest of my memory sticks.

Just my .02...

Looks like supply and demand is at it's finest

I'm seeing WL100s on eBay in the $80-$100 range. One was even used. I've been considering selling my NX80 and switching back to a Palm branded device... was going to sell the whole thing as a package, but if WL100s are going for those kind of prices, I may have to sell it separately! :D

If you're in the US, you can try Best Buy and Circuit City stores - I got a WL110 about three weeks ago at Circuit City - for $79 (new). They had a bunch of other CLIE stuff on clearance, too. I also got the stylus 3-pack for $4.99, the belkin leather case for $7.99, and the belkin car/USB charger/synch cable for $3.99! Staples also had some CLIE stuff on clearance, but I didn't see the WL100/110 there. It seems like the clearance prices vary from store to store within a chain, too... but it's worth a trip for some great deal$ if you're looking to accessorize your CLIE.
Hope this helps,
