View Full Version : Need an unmistakable low-power warning

I work with my father-in-law, and we both have NR-70s. He relies on me to keep up with the tech side of things and keep it all working.
7 times now he has brought me a dead Clie, complaining something is wrong with it, and the only problem was he let it run out of power. I have him setup with Backup Buddy so we always get it restored... but he usually loses something he was working on.

I need an ap that:
1) shows battery status on the whole screen, or
2) gives multiple, loud, alarms when status is low, or
3) shuts the unit off BEFORE everything is lost (maybe at 20%)
maybe all of the above....

Any ideas?

maybe you should get him a battery extender off of ebay-I have one and it works great.

You can install Battery Panel. It allows you to change the battery warning thresholds to a higher level.

Also, there is a hack called something like "Low batter Indicator Hack" that does all sorts of things to alert you to the low battery condition.

Other than that, he might think about getting an extra cradle for his nightstand, dresser, etc. so he gets in the habit of setting it down in the cradle instead of just setting it down.

Also, since he has Backup Buddy, install Backup Buddy VFS. Then, in the advanced section, choose the files that are critical to backup and set it to backup everytime he powers off. As long as the list isn't too long, it's not too annoyiing. I have mine setup to backup the main four databases, and a few other things, at power off.
