Is there a way to configure (or application available for) a TH55 to make the device turn on when the screen is tapped instead of having to use the slider on/off switch on the side? I find that even setting the auto-power off to 3 minutes forces me to be constantly turning the thing on when it goes off.

No. To do that, the screen would have to be on all the time, which would really eat into battery life. There might be a program that lets you increase the length of time before the unit turns off though, which sounds like you might want.

Greetings!
For the power off timeout (change or disable), try AutoOff - works GREAT, and it's freeware.
Best wishes,

Good Evening-
I second the testa-rosa chicken's advice...use AutoOff. Works great.

if you are satisfied with an autooff feature, use the above proposal. if you wanna be able to dimm your screen and have multiple profiles for dimming and auto-off, then you better try energy dimmer.

Excellent. Given the fact that the screen would need to be on all the time the AutoOff utililty is the very next best thing. Thanks.
For any who are also looking for this nice utility, it can be found here:

I have found that using "TheGoGo" to make the Camera Shutter button an power-on button to be very convient. That is to say, generally I have a finger next to it most of the time anyway and if it powers off on my I just hit the button with my finger and I'm back on again (the one exception being if I was connected to the net, and powering off causing me to loose it :-)
