Can anyone help me with this? Every time I run a "Find" search the OS will give me results but before it reaches the end of the search it flashes up a "Fatal Alert" box with a "Fatal Exception" mes and prompts a reset.

What is causing it?
and
Is there a fix?

Thanks for any help.

Do a backup of all of your applications and their data. I suggest BackupBuddy (I use it myself). Then do a hard reset. Then reload your applications one at a time. This way when and if you have a problem you will know which application is causing it.

This just started happening to me, too, with no new software added. However... I had just done run the Sony updater from their site. I was hoping to find some suggestions here, but guess I'll bite the bullet and head over there to see if I can undo it.

Another reason not to fix what ain't broken, I guess.

Try limiting the apps to search from. This can be manipulated in the Find options menu. Maybe a certain app is in conflict with the Find operation.

stay cool.

Thanks! I *really bit the bullet. After a dbscan turned up lots of errors but didn't solve the problem, I ended up doing a hard reset. Kind of reminds me of reformatting the hard drive every year or so as a preventative measure, though rather less painful. So far so good.

Boy, isn't THAT the truth...I just spent the entire weekend reformatting my Viao Slimtop PC...when it started taking up to an HOUR for it to boot up, I figured it was time to reformat! It wil probably take me another week just to get everything back to where I like it!
